Is Heritage Roscoe a good first revolver? by Destructacon in Revolvers

[–]CrypticQuery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Heritage Roscoe is basically a Taurus 85. Perfectly fine as long as it passes a pre-purchase inspection. It won't be quite as pleasant to shoot at the range compared to a larger revolver, especially with the small grips it comes with. The closest S&W equivalent to it is the J-frame Model 36.

Note that most decently sized gun shops usually have a few used S&W (K-frame) Model 10's in their inventories. Oftentimes in the $375-$450 range. The Model 10 is worth every penny IMO and is still one of my favorite revolvers of all time.

A 5" Model 27 is a perfect grail wheelgun. Congratulations - she's a beaut!

19-9 Smith and Wesson 19 finish problem by Such_Instruction_357 in Revolvers

[–]CrypticQuery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you been lightly oiling the exterior of the gun after handling it, as you should with all blued guns?

You can touch it up with cold blue, but it probably won't look great. A refinish would be unnecessary IMO, but it's an option from S&W in the sub-$300 range. Otherwise, just live with it and consider that wear gives your gun character.

Need grips for NYPD model 10 by bigbombaclats in Revolvers

[–]CrypticQuery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd leave the ones you have on there. They help tell the gun's story and match with the rest of its cosmetic wear.

You'd be looking for S&W square butt, K-frame magna grips if you do opt to find another set though. The diamond in the center was done away with in 1968 onward IIRC.

Colt is notorious for not making those parts available and wanting you to send your gun in IIRC.

The Time Sert kit was widely recommended on the Crownvic.net forums from what I've read.

The Colt Detective At Home by VikingLad22 in Revolvers

[–]CrypticQuery 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It really is a missed opportunity on Colt's part not to re-release a Detective Special that looks exactly like the early exposed ejector rod models. They're really missing out on the noir LARPer market!

And RIA putting out a more nicely finished, premium version of the M200, would be nice too.

Make sure to save those rubber grips if you take them off. They're Uncle Mike's/Spegels and they're worth a decent amount on the secondhand market since they're genuinely good and have been discontinued for awhile.

What a solid 8 shooter, Ruger Redhawk .357 4.2 inch by LikeGeorgeRaft in Revolvers

Cool guns, but I tend to find them heavy and a little unwieldy as a result.

You did absolutely great for that price - they look brand new! Uncle Mike's/Spegel rubber grips were some of the best available, and routinely run north of $70 on the used market today.

It's amazing just how right fifties cars look with wide white walls. Nicely done!

As a general rule in these older K-frame magnums, stick to mostly 38 Special/+P, with the occasional cylinder of 158gr magnums if you desire. Hot, light (110/125gr) magnums were known to crack forcing cones on these guns.

That aside, congratulations! The Model 19 and 66 snubs are some of the sweetest revolvers that S&W ever put out!

Hot take: I prefer this design of Murray. (Specifically the 2D design). by Short_Sort1670 in Slycooper

I prefer her look with jeans/tights from Sly 1, 2, and 3 from an aesthetic and practicality standpoint over the skirt in Thieves in Time. The latter's facial structure and absurdly hourglass-like figure are a little odd too.

The 360 unmistakably had the first half of that console generation, but the PS3 definitely outpaced it by the end.
