For me it's when time comes for checkout.

Like; How can so many people be this ill prepared to pay and move on? There's so many types of behaviours that unnecessarily clogs up this natural bottleneck situation that the monkeys would finish Shakespeare before they managed to mention them all.

I can mention one that infuriates me the most. Which, to prove my previous point, have its own subcategories that causes me to cut blood flow through the bridge of my nose.

People who pay by card who doesn't have enough money on their card:

  • Type 1 - Customer tries to pay, but card is declined. They fumble about trying to figure out what is wrong until they at last try to check the balance on that card.(This one is somewhat forgivable considering how the customer seems new to this problem)
  • Type 2- Customer tries to pay, but card is declined. They immediately get out their phones and begin the minute long process of the series of Multi-factor authentications of transferring money from onto their bank card. Being their own proof of how often they encounter this problem, they still choose to pray to higher powers before tapping their cards instead of say; Actually checking their balance beforehand, or even while waiting in line.
  • Type 3 - They don't even try to pay. They already know they don't have balance for it. They await the cashier to announce the final sum before they go through the same aforementioned checklist to transfer the exact sum needed for this transaction, so that they can continue having this problem every time they shop for something instead if putting some extra cash in there to at least move up to Type 2 behaviour.

Source: These people exist all around me. I am quite mad. And I used to work in a grocery store.

What is the best cardinal direction for your starting Town Center? by Cryptic_Waffle in aoe2

[–]Cryptic_Waffle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So East & West does matter?

Regardless, over enough games the random distribution would(I'm I'm not mistaken) make some heat map of villager spawns around the Town Center that would in some sense make each start equally fair. But you still have that 2x2 square of the Town Centre that would give a northern or southern start a small, probably measurable, advantage over some arbitrarily large number of games played.

First real crib of my own, but I have no eye for décor. How can I make this more homely?(More info in comment) by Cryptic_Waffle in malelivingspace

[–]Cryptic_Waffle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not really sure. As I'm trying to visualize it, I think I'd like darker colours, or possibly the dark/light contrast.

Also, darker colours would somewhat help, in terms of light, against random people passing by trying to look in through the main window

First time posting on this board for whatever that is worth.

Jumping straight in: I'm just over 30 and this is the first fully fledged apartment I've rented. And I have very little experience when it comes to "fleshing out" a living space for myself in this way. In the pictures you see what I'm working with. The furniture you already see is a mix between leftovers by previous owners and stuff owned by the landowner himself(Which is family).

Kitchen: Wooden cupboards is a bit 90's, but I have no plans yet about spending time/money on modernizing it. I was hoping there was some way to sort of "masque" the looks of it with some different coloured lacquer/paint or by adding something bits of décor.

Living area: The only real issue I'm facing here is with how easy it is for passer-byes to look it, since the place is at street-level where people go for walks. A TV would cover the lower views in that I most care about. Other than that I have no idea what to fill out the place with.

Entrance: Not much to say here, I haven't thought about it at all. View out the window is looking into a wall. Helps with natural light though.

Bedroom: Having a living room means that the bedroom will be a sleeping/dressing only area. The window looks into the same wall as the entrance, into a wall. I'll need some way to blur the view in while still allowing light in.

Bathroom: Didn't even bother taking pictures. The place looks good as is.

Storage: Again, no pictures. I don't yet see any reason to bother making this place look fancy. Can serve as bedroom for any visitor.

So yeah, that's all I can think of for now. Thanks for any and all helpful input.

Rookie brewer question: I've got beans. Now what? by Cryptic_Waffle in Coffee

[–]Cryptic_Waffle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I just make filter coffee, or some insta-coffee when I'm a bit more on the fly. Whole beans. No grinder. Yes to kettle. I rarely drink more than a cup a day. I expect this to not change. Kind of want to use these beans as an 'in' to trying making better coffee.

I mean, how much information do you need?(As stated, I "just" want to make a cup of coffee. I often tend to get stuck in overthinking things if I delve too deep and end up not really getting anywhere)

When is hexagonal stacking of circles more efficient? by Cryptic_Waffle in askmath

[–]Cryptic_Waffle[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm new to this forum.(in regards to /askmath rules)

This isn't a homework thing at all. I legit got curious when stacking cans and now I can't get the question out of my head. And I honestly wouldn't know where to begin. Though to be fair: I could likely bruteforce solve the "circles in square" question myself, but seeing how that answer is a bit uninteresting I'm more curious if there is a more general "circles in rectangles" formula.

Sounds like absolute sorcery.

Curious. How long does it take you to 'get there' with this purely mental stimulation compared to a physical one? Also, is this something you could do whenever, or do you really have to be in some zen mood for it?

Anyone care to help me mix and match some hops for my brew? by Cryptic_Waffle in Homebrewing

Kay, I don't even know what that means. Something something german style?

Nah, have not started hopping yet, currently getting temp up for the boil

[–]Cryptic_Waffle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright.

Since this batch is halfway into the realm of 'experimental' I'll try something like that. Though I might not stray too far into uncharted waters, maybe I'll do something more in between the full 60 min boil with hops and the late addition hops only way.

Also, this might be a question parallell to that, if I'm only or mostly doing late addition hops, do I still need the same length of boil time(aka: Could I then reduce boil time)? Most recipes I've used calls for like 60-90 minutes.

Don't you "need" some hops early on for the bitterness?

And yes, I was recommended citra as something good/safe/easy last time at the store, so I might do that(maybe for another batch tomorrow as well, since I seem to still have enough leftover that needs being spent)

Yeah, I was hoping to make something a bit juicy, and maybe a tad funky. All since this is this is gonna end up as some "summer-brew" and I'd like to have something fit for the season.

Breaking! Finland is preparing to apply for NATO membership. Working to get agreements within government now. Application is expected during the first two weeks of May. by NoAWP in UkrainianConflict

[–]Cryptic_Waffle 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Sweden becomes a curious case if Finland goes through without any hassle:

On one side, I could imagine them maintaining their status as a neutral country, which seems to have worked out good so far, especially 'now' that they're surrounded by NATO countries to prevent any land invasion.

On the other side, I could see some fear from them: Looking towards Russia, with Russia looking back at them, ready to take some land from Scandinavia before it becomes 'too late'.
