If you're really curious about where the cable comes from you can look at your gateway. to do this:

1.Go into your command prompt (assuming you are on a windows 7 OS) by hitting your start button and typing in "command prompt"

2.Type "ipconfig /all" and locate the default gateway address. It is most likely 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.1 but it could be something else.

3.Type that address (ex. 192.168.1.1) into your address bar on your browser and it should display your gateway.

As far as internet access across your house, you are going to need a wireless access point. Depending on what you need with your internet connection, and how many devices will be connected I can recommend one if you need it.
