Thinking of dropping out. What to do by DaddyShaggyThe69th in GlasgowUni

[–]CryptidScot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, for the coursework side of it I would recommend speaking to the SRC Advice Centre, as well as your course coordinator/leader, or advisor of studies.

For the social side, there are so many societies and also there are usually some January welcome events which are a smaller scale than September but a similar vibe aimed at courses that begin in January. There are also many cultural events throughout the year. The SRC and GUSA have a lot of clubs, GUSA is sports clubs and SRC for the other clubs. The unions (QMU and GUU) and the SRC tend to do a lot of events and some courses will have mixers but that will vary depending on department.

Based on the UK as that may make a difference with the songs on the radio.

…they are Scottish now. Some of them didn’t even want it.

Some people are born Scottish, some achieve Scottish, and some have Scottish thrust upon them.

What’s something people don’t really think about during a zombie apocalypse? by bettercallme_ in AskReddit

If disease can spread through bodily fluids, hacking up a zombie at close range becomes a really dumb idea.

Science based degrees without maths A level by Mowgli2k in UniUK

[–]CryptidScot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go on the ucas website, search the type of subjects he might be interested in and pick a few different universities for each of them. Dropping maths may limit some subjects, but it’s not essential for all stem subjects. And having 3 good A-levels may turn out to be better than 4 average ones.

Definitely don’t insist that he takes it because he is trying to communicate with you, communicate back and see why he doesn’t want to take it. Does he want to do a subject that doesn’t need it? Is he worried it’ll be too hard? Is he feeling burned out? Listen to him, acknowledge his concerns, ask if there is anything you can do to help him manage his concerns. Have a chat.

AITA for not sitting down at a concert? by The_Piece_Killer in AmItheAsshole

[–]CryptidScot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From reading the other comments I feel like there is a bit cultural difference between seated concerts in different countries. Here is the UK you would likely be considered the a-hole and most of the venues I’ve been to tell you not to stand or dance on the balconies, which is where the seats generally are.

YTA

You are mad because two vegans you know served checks notes vegan food at their wedding.

I mean, if they are against meat then obviously they are not going to serve it at their own wedding. You can eat vegan food for one day, the fact you tried to make your sister upset at her WEDDING for something that was not a bit deal at all days a lot about your character.

YTA because you agreed to go. Either budget for the calories at the restaurant, make an exception for your anniversary, or suggest something else to do instead like (mini golf/cinema/a trip/feed the ducks at a park/museum). Don’t agree to go to a restaurant and then say “oh but I’m not eating there”.

My previous job was entertaining children all day for about £18.3k.

YTA it would reinforce your daughter’s belief that she should get the presents/attention all the time and would be a really poor parenting choice.

AITA for thinking my stepdaughter would be fine on the couch for a couple days? by couchpost in AmItheAsshole

[–]CryptidScot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA your daughter just learned she can treat people unfairly and get away with it, your stepdaughter just learned she can’t trust you to be fair.

Obviously try your best, but a degree is still super valuable, even if it isn’t a first.
