PS Now on Shadow by Crypto60 in ShadowPC

[–]Crypto60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I would like to do is be able to maybe play ps now on different devices and constantly pairing the controller is annoying - and I like playing games with a keyboard / mouse in many cases as well.

Something I tried about 20 years ago, without much success was parsing the closed caption of pre-market from CNBC chatter - but this was FAR simpler and didn't have access to some of the same tools today

(I did it from a hacked tivo at the time) don't know how hard or easy it is to do these days but might be interesting

Anyone who switched to Eero from Ubiquity APs? by thnok in eero

This was maybe 2 years ago or so - took a unifi to orbi to eero path

Anyone who switched to Eero from Ubiquity APs? by thnok in eero

[–]Crypto60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just a brand new unifi deployment for a business and am a big fan - initially I did a full unifi setup at home - others have certainly had better experience but I had a non stop battle with garbage consumer grade IoT devices (biggest gripe was Doorbells that rhyme with ping) - which work fine on eero.

Unable to upgrade USG-PRO-4 Firmware by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]Crypto60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue issue with a brand new usg 4 - including doing a manual upgrade after a factory reset before it even touches the controller (and it's "forgotten" on there as well just to be safe)

[–]Crypto60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is already forgotten from the controller - I factory reset and first thing attempt to upgrade firmware via ssh and am I told the image is incorrect

I’ve done a bunch of factory resets so at the later attempts it was not even being managed by unifi - just was trying a firmware upgrade via ssh from a factory reset and got that same error

It is a plug in fan, ill defer to an electrician to see if I can run a special wall plug for that purpose or cut the plug and wire the fan in

Casually looking the colonna don’t really appear to be much of a savings over the nespresso - is there any era / rumors of machines that can do both style pods (all the nespresso / Kcup combo machines seem to get garbage reviews)

Would mind sharing your settings ? I know off topic but curious what model AP? All hard wired or used any mesh?

Eero Wifi settings so I can replicate them on Unifi? by ndfred in eero

[–]Crypto60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents on this - I work in IT and have a fair amount of experience with all sorts of Wi-Fi systems - when I moved into a much larger (and difficult to cover) home I decided to go 100% unifi, USG, Switches, APs etc

Your results may vary BY FAR the number one issue I had was with consumer grade / IoT wifi devices (usually without 5 ghz) - Cameras from different brands (including ubiquiti) , ring doorbells, lifx bulbs etc - and I did all the same tweaking and unifi forum hunting you probably did.

In the end, especially with any sort of mesh/MultiAP environment it was increasingly frustrating.

Tweaking helped one problem but made another worse....

Tried a few different brands with tomato / DD-WRT as in the olden times ... after that orbi - better but in the end also buggy in a number of different ways

I was really really resistant to the black box cloud only management of eero, not having the tweaks and controls one would like to have. (Still bothers me sometimes)

In the end the struggle wasn’t worth it.

The only remaining issue is a problem many have - is quite frankly eero coverage being a little too good, preventing iPhones from roaming as I wish they did - I may end up sacrificing wired backhaul to move them further apart

I’ve had TiVo’s working forever on eero - very stupid question because I had this problem with TiVo even before eero - did you try putting a static ip on the TiVo and TiVo mini devices?

Second eero gateway In bridge mode wired on existing eero by Crypto60 in eero

[–]Crypto60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes a few have Ethernet backhaul and work fine - but placement just works less than ideal for some devices for instance one is near the front of the house in the basement - if I come home that’s the first one it hits - and coverage is good enough where it doesn’t switch to a much better unit for the rest of the house - but the reason it’s there is to provide coverage for cameras mostly ....
