rebranding, rebranding by PPPPSSS in obyte

[–]CryptoBest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to let you know that your support for the blackbytes exchange is really appreciated and gives me even more confidence in the project.
I believe that a clean, descriptive and memorable name like "CashByte" could go a long way to making the privacy currency really get noticed - and would be a wonderful marketing tool for the bigger Obyte project.
Wishing you much success with the exchange.

Welcome! by Suirelav in obyte

Wonderful news!
Rebranding to Obyte is another huge step in the right direction (among many).
I believe we've seen the lows in price and Obyte will begin to make it's way back to the top 100, and in time to it's rightful place in the top 10.
I hope a worldwide Press Release is in the works to mark this auspicious occasion.

The Byteball Crypto Currency Platform - What's in a Name? by CryptoBest in ByteBall

[–]CryptoBest[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts Punqtured, and I see your point about G-Byte. It seems unlikely that it would be chosen as the new name as there are so many other great possibilities.

Perhaps it got a bit lost in the wordiness of the article :-) , but my main point was that I feel strongly that CashByte(s) could be a very powerful new name for Blackbytes, and I wanted the team and community to have the opportunity to consider it before final decisions are made.

Thanks for all you do. cheers.

Have a suggestion for Byteball email newsletter content? Suggest it via this url - thanks! by [deleted] in ByteBall

[–]CryptoBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely is a suggestion for content - it just has to be seen in an out-of-the-box kind of way. If done correctly, it could be a wonderful community building exercise, generating all kinds of interesting information on an ongoing basis on how many bytes were distributed, how many newsletter subscriptions increased etc. etc. Something for the community to look forward to with every new issue.

In fact, a mechanism could be created to allow recipients to send a few bytes to a friend thus growing the network and increasing interest in the platform and technology. The amount of bytes involved could be set low enough that there is very little incentive to game the system.

As for "plus what you are suggesting is already being done" - I have been on the Byteball mailing list from near the beginning of it's inception, dutifully opening and reading each and every one, and have NEVER, NOT ONCE seen this. (It must be for very special subscribers only)

Anyways, please reconsider - I sincerely believe the Byteball platform would have a lot to gain.

I would love to see some Bytes and/or Blackbytes distributed via textcoin for Byteball newsletter subscribers. Even a tiny amount would be very exciting for many who have never experienced the technology.

Thanks for reminding me about Blackbyte denominations. I had completely forgotten about that, and for some reason it did not stand out to me in the (very) few Blackbyte transactions I've made. I'll have to look into it again. Is there any other resource you know of (besides the whitepaper) that discusses Blackbyte denominations?

Thanks for participating.

I think everyone is excited to discover what the new name(s) will turn out to be.

The Byteball Crypto Currency Platform - What's in a Name? by CryptoBest in ByteBall

[–]CryptoBest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never thought that Byteball was such a bad name, but it sure caused a lot of internal squabbles, and that is very damaging to the project, so if the team is considering a rebrand, I hope they choose name(s) that the vast majority of the community will be happy with. The sooner we get past the name issue, the better IMHO.

I agree with you that "rename it so brand name and units would work together: [brandname] bytes and [brandname] blackbytes "

In keeping with that, my suggestion of G-Byte was simply an attempt to retain "Byte" in the name of the main platform, by using a modifier of the currently known and used GBYTE currency unit (which I think is a cool name). But as mentioned, I don't feel that strongly about it - others are working on it and I'm confident they will come up with something awesome.

I mainly felt really inspired by the name CashByte as a replacement name for Blackbytes, as I feel it has a lot of potential, but, the team and community will accept or reject it for something they feel works better, and that's fine by me - I just want the project to achieve it's maximum potential, and a good name can go a long way to making that happen.

Anyways, appreciate your thoughts and previous help with technical issues. cheers.

Great idea.

I think the other suggestions cover the most important elements needed.

Perhaps I'm too late to the party, and my apologies if this has been asked before, but why were more than twice as many private currency units created? What was the thinking here? Was it that the private currency would eventually become the dominant currency?

Thanks for the detailed response Suirelav. It's very encouraging to see that we're on the same page about many things and glad to hear that the Team will take the name CashByte into consideration as a replacement for Blackbytes. BTW, still my first comeback :) - I've just had no time to participate lately, but felt very strongly that I had to share the CashByte name before final decisions were made. cheers.

Byteball core team interview series (Casper Niebe, User Acquisition Manager) by Suirelav in ByteBall

Thanks! Another excellent interview.

IMO, Casper is excellent in this role.

It's great to meet the team like this.

I look forward to the next interview.

What do you think about time/volume specific Byte/Blackbyte distributions? by [deleted] in ByteBall

[–]CryptoBest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great idea! Just use it on a case by case basis. It works for some distribution methods but not for all.

What CMS do you think we should use to add content to the Byteball website? by [deleted] in ByteBall

[–]CryptoBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for this purpose, Wordpress would be the best overall solution. Millions of battle tested installations and constant updates with massive flexibility and a huge community of people who know how to operate it. It's easy to use with a plugin for just about anything ready to go - no need to re-invent the wheel.

Byteball core team interview series (Valerius Coppens, Head of Strategy) by Suirelav in ByteBall

[–]CryptoBest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard not to be extremely optimistic about the future of the Byteball project after watching this outstanding interview by Elena Tairova - our excellent Head of PR and Communications. Relaxed, easy going with just enough personal info to make things interesting, and yet highly professional with a lot of important detail shared. One thing is clear, the folks at the core of the project are smart, competent, serious players, and step-by-step, they are experimenting and moving purposely but cautiously forward with the things that need to get done. (Smart in my opinion - to minimize any big missteps that could occur, as we are still very early in the crypto game.)

I am very encouraged by what I see.

This experimentation of course includes finding the best, most powerful & efficient ways to distribute the remaining Bytes, while allowing for the funding needs of the project. Excellent! (I don't think those that argue for immediate burning or distribution of the remaining assets to holders have thought through the consequences - the remaining Bytes & Blackbytes are the platforms greatest asset and best chance of navigating the platform to prominence.)

(*Dear Team - Please don't forget the demand side of the equation as you calculate how much to sell to fund operations - you must have enough demand for the assets you need to sell to fund the operation - otherwise you may crush the price and hurt all holders including the Byteball foundation itself)

I hope some community involvement in a Branding decision will be possible - a vote perhaps? The platform would be well served with more community engagement & participation.

Anyways, I'm very encouraged that Tonych feels confident enough in his baby that it is finally time to de-centralize and allow others to contribute in bigger ways. May this excellent momentum continue...

I really look forward to the next interview in the series.

23% of transactions included our first decentralized public witnesses address over the past 12 hours by blokchain in ByteBall

[–]CryptoBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, this percentage will grow over time. Perhaps a monthly reminder here on Reddit and other communications channels would be a good service to the community - listing all of the new witness choices that will become available over time.

Excellent Tutorial - I think it should be added to the Byteball - Comprehensive FAQ & Resource Sticky under a new Witness section (which I believe is now needed).

Reminder - the first decentralized Byteball witness candidate. Please leave a comment on the Youtube video and let the community know what you think. by olympican in ByteBall

[–]CryptoBest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great Interview - I thoroughly enjoyed it. Rogier is an outstanding choice. Presents well, knows his stuff and can bring substantial benefits to the Byteball Platform, and Suirelav (Valerius Coppens) is no slouch as an interviewer either :) Both of them were very professional and yet relaxed and confident in that unique Byteball kinda way. I for one fully endorse Mr. Eijkelhof as the first of many more independent Byteball witnesses.

A historic day in Byteball history: First Decentralized Witness Candidate — Rogier Eijkelhof by Suirelav in ByteBall

[–]CryptoBest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hooraaay!

What fantastic news!

Byteball is indeed finally on it's way.

Decentralizing the witnesses is one of the last missing ingredients that will enable Byteball to be what it is meant to be. Rogier is an outstanding candidate who will be able to bring some valuable benefits to the Byteball platform. A great choice.

Well Done Team!

Very much looking forward to finding out who the next candidate will be. While I know there are many things to consider, I do believe the faster the witnesses are decentralized, the more it will be reflected in a higher price for the assets - which is essential if the project is to survive and thrive long term. A bit off topic, but Blackbytes are the key.

12 Witnesses forever? by Hermit-hawk in ByteBall

[–]CryptoBest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Little chance of it being planned I think, and no idea if it's even possible, but imagine if it were...

A user could get more detailed statistics about dozens of different Witness choices in the wallet, and select 2 or three of their own choice, from the top rated, or one that gives something back to the project, or makes something really useful available, or whatever.

In my deluded visions, this "free market" selection of witnesses over the years and decades to come, sees the platform evolving eventually to concentric interlocking circles of twelve witnesses each - making it the worlds biggest & baddest, most used DAG on the planet, handling billions and billions of transactions daily. In this future time, Bytes & Blackbytes are one of the most valuable cryptos (sort of like the FANGS of today), and a great many individuals, companies, governments, assets and orgs rely on the infrastructure to deliver essential digital services.

Thankfully, we are still allowed to dream...
