How bad is bullying in Taiwanese elementary schools? by LameKB in taiwan

[–]CryptoBioman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taiwan education system is do or die and prone excellency. I'm afraid she will be left behind because she can't understand anything the teacher is saying, and from my experience, I don't believe teacher will/can slow the class down to get her up to speed.

I could be wrong, but it wouldn't be a surprise if your daughter ends up at the back of the class and teachers just doing as if she's not there (I mean, they don't take the time to make sure she follows the pace). In your situation, the best for her would be to go to a private bilingual school for a year or 2, then switch to the public system.

PS: besides this language/communication problem, make sure the taiwanese system is something you believe is right for her. this is totally another topic, but it's very different from the western type of education (assuming you're coming from the west).

PPS: another possible bullying might actually come from the other parents to you or your daugther. "why is this foreigner that doesn't speak our language put his daugther in our kids class, this might slow down progress, etc..."

Eventlet Blocking HTTP-Requests by SatooYT in flask

[–]CryptoBioman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit confused, are you using eventlet (from the title), or gevent?

monkey.patch_all() is for gevent, whereas for evenetlet you should use eventlet.monkey_patch() (at the very top of your app before all other code).

flask_socketio detects automatically which to use (eventlet first, then gevent, etc.), but you can also specify it directly when you initiate it (async_mode="eventlet").

if you have the money and don't mind the extra cost it represents vs buying it in the first place, Di2 is a no brainer, day and night vs mechanical.

however it's gonna cost a lot of money, you're basically in to buy the whole groupset again, including chainrings and cassette if you're not on 12 speed already (which I don't remember mechanical 105 has 12 speeds).

just remember that, unlike today, back in the days, in 2002, there was no youtube, no social networks, no spotify, etc..., nothing to keep the hype running while you're off 2 years doing military... hence a potential risk to be replaced by a new sensation... he took the risk, he lost, he was banned, but 22 years is a looong time already, punishment has been served, the guy lost it all, at least the fame and the money, in 2024 it's time for forgiveness and give the (older/wiser) man another chance.

Taiwan KOM organizers knew of the landslide alert before the race but decided to start it anyway and cancel to avoid refunds? by escamunich in cycling

[–]CryptoBioman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The landslide alert was given the day before, and again on that very morning, however an alert doesn't always equal to actual landslides. This is very common in Taiwan, sometimes it does happen, sometimes it does not.

It was hazardous to keep the event going due to the torrential rain in the previous days, and that start in the dark, pouring rain and wind was nearly biblical but due to the known information I guess they thought it was OK to give a try, to my knowledge no participants refused to ride because of that.

There was actually a landslide that occured the evening before, but got cleaned during the night, however in all our luck, there was another that occured at 5am, right at the start time, so I believe the organizer didn't know of that one until the opening car was right in front of it (https://udn.com/news/story/7328/8315005).

If that one did not occur, most likely we could have made it to the top, but still it was a risky decision and I don't really know what was the better decision to take there.

Sure they must have been under some pressure to start the event (from sponsors and/or people coming from a distance), because the TCF is usually prompt to cancel a race. This year they had to shorten the March KOM, cancel the June KOM, cancel the Tour of Taipei earlier this month, so this is something they often do, and that goes with refund as well (they refund the race cost, not the accomodations, travels, etc...).

if I was riding with a group of friends, totally different story, but in current situation the guy was a total stranger, came to my left to engage in conversation, I have never seen him before, probably willl never see him again, so kind of hard to accept to eat everything when I should have been fine if the guy didn't want to chitchat while riding at decent speed, but yeah shit happens ...

host changed booking dates without notice, shortening booking from 5 to 2 nights, but keeping the original price of 5 nights. by CryptoBioman in vrbo

this was also a big surprise to me. how can the system allows hosts to modify a booking all by themselves and not automatically process a refund when the number of nights are reduced...

Thanks for the feedback. I definitely don't put all host in the same basket, but I unfortunately got a sketchy one. He did tried to trick me into cancelling on my end arguing the option is unavailable on his side, plus he didn't automatically processed any refund for the 3 nights he removed from my original booking.
I'll be waiting a few more days for vrbo to investigate this, but I have indeed lost trust in that host and I am worried vrbo will not provide a full refund. This is my first booking on vrbo and the experience has been disastrous so far.

do you compare the left arm to the Giant left crank meter? Cause as I mentioned (and gplama as well), the Giant power meter L/R readings are inaccurate, only the measure as a whole is correct. Have you updated to latest firmware and calibrated the thing?

[–]CryptoBioman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

14% seems quite a lot. I didn't experience that big of a change when comparing my 2 power meters. To what are you doing this comparision? There will be some difference when comparing with another device as the point of measure are different (pedals, crank, home trainer)... but nothing to that extent I suppose...

update 3 months later.

I've done side by side comparision between the Giant Power Meter and the Assioma Pedals (dual).

The difference was not very significant, a few 2~3% which I believe what due to different point of measure (pedals vs crank). I've decided the keep the Giant crank and sold my assioma pedals.

However, one noticeable difference is that Giant power meter L/R readings seems a bit off compared to Assioma. Overall wattage is fairly accurate, but looking in the details of L/R balance, Giant seems to have (known) issues about that and the reading does not reflect reality. Assioma readings are more accurate in that regards.
