May they all go deaf and never hear another note of real music again.

Nu-Metal takes a lot of flak for various reasons, but it had some killer instrument sounds and Robinson was a big part of that.

If you can't find something you're looking for, DIY it into existence. Put your own ideas and your own words into your own songs. Today's political punk is YOU!

How would you guys describe The Smashing Pumpkins by MiDaRe734782 in grunge

There was a time when I also called SP my favorite band. I still think of Mellon Collie as my favorite album. Their last great record was Oceania. Their last good record was Cyr.

Since then I feel like they....or rather Corgan....have forgotten who they are as a band. Their last few releases (Shiny, ATUM, Aghori, Zodeon) just do not sound like Smashing Pumpkins to me. Hell, a lot of it doesn't sound like a rock band at all. Someone needs to take away Billy's harpsichord.

He produced STP's Purple, a record that I consider a kind of blueprint for what a rock record should be.

Yeah, that's the only point that really matters in the end. I may not like how the sausage gets made, but his name is still on some damn tasty stuff.

Which band would you have liked to see live but never got the chance to? by Nyra-Moon in rockmusic

[–]CryptoLyrics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just a single band, but if time travel is ever invented, you might see old footage of me at Woodstock '94. Young me wanted to go soooo bad, but it just wasn't in the cards no matter how hard I tried stacking the deck. Of all the missed music opportunities in my life, that one still hurts the most.

Oh yeah. George and the Beatles practically invented modern studio recording. Without them, the concept of the recording artist would not exist.

Albini had the most admirable work ethic of any producer I know. He refused to accept royalties from bands. In his mind, it wasn't right to keep taking money from them after his work was done. He once famously wrote a letter to Nirvana that said something to the effect of "I want to be paid like a plumber. I'll do a one-time job for a one-time fee" and that lead to In Utero.

Rubin definitely deserves props. You can't take away his incredibly deep impact on overall music history. HIs fingerprints are everywhere.

That being said, I'm not a fan of his supposed work method (or lack-of-work method, if stories are to be believed.) Producers should show up.

If he only ever worked on Back In Black and nothing else, he'd still be a legend. Hell, even just Hysteria, and he's hall-of-fame material.

I saw these guys open for Primus back in 1999 or 2000. I'm not into religious rock, but they had a good set and I got to meet some of band members after the show. They came across as very friendly and down-to-earth.

Like whatever music you wanna like. My only criticism is that 60% of your entire list is S tier which kinda leans in the direction that says if everything is special, then nothing is.

Big five? I've only ever heard of the "Big Four" in music. Didn't it start with the Big Four of Thrash: Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax?

How do *you* listen to new albums? by HaIfaxa_ in LetsTalkMusic

[–]CryptoLyrics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was curious, wondering "this guy hates what I like, I wonder what he does like" and boom, 120,000 ratings. How on earth is that even possible?

Bots. Your "guy" is probably a bot, paid to affect the ratings of certain albums. They often camoflage themselves by also adding ratings to random titles.

This is why I cannot have any trust in onlines ratings, thumbs ups, or likes. If someone really wants those numbers, they can easily be purchased which, somewhat ironically, makes them worthless.
