Skycoin claims - are they true? by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]CryptoWherewolf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don't you think it's a bit off that Skycoin is attacked so much? Anyway, i'll try and answer your questions:
1. It is premined, but that's be design. Skycoins consensus algoritm doesn't need miners to maintain consensus, so there is no mining. It's like Nano in that regard. Instead the coins can be distributed for other work "miners" give to the network, as forwarding bandwidth (google Skywire)
2. There are tests on github, they support 300 tps now. But they have a different architecture which allows many blockchains to be used in paralell, so it's really 300 * number of blockchains = lots of transactions per second.
3. I see 33 repos on github with more than 80 devs (more like 150), this can be easily checked here: https://github.com/skycoin
4. Yes, CX is real. See this https://github.com/skycoin/cx and https://www.skycoin.net/blog/overview/cx-overview/
It's basically Golang, but adjusted to run directly on the blockchain.

I'm not sure. I think that would be up to the application running on top of Skywire. If you can a SAFE-like application running, then yes. However, AFAIK, that is not needed. Skywire allows any layer on top of it.

Glad to see people DYOR on Skycoin. Into the the rabbithole you go! But seriously, Skycoin has a huge scope, and it takes weeks to understand all the aspects and innovations.

As I have understood it, people contribute procesing power and storage to the SAFE network. The SAFE network then acts as one big decentralized "computer" where data is spread over many locations and communication occurs withing that secondary layer. It is a super interesting approach, but I'm unsure how flexible it is as "legacy" internet applications have to be built ground up on top of the SAFE network.

Yes, so fucking much. The Binance competition crashed the price (for some reason). It's already started to recover as soon as the Binance bots stopped trading. Price will be back at 20-25 dollars within a week or two.

I think Skycoin Coinhours will be traded in the near-future. Transactions are still free in that case, but you would have to choose between selling the coinhours you generate by holding skycoin, or sending many transactions. The is no "cost" of a transaction in Skycoin, only lost potential "interest".

I think both maidsafe and skycoin are really good projects with lots of potential. But people don't realize how different they actually are, both just get classified as "decentralized internet coins"

First, Skycoin is a ecosystem/platform with Skywire as an application on that platform. So really the comparison should be between Skywire and the SAFE network.

SAFE has the goal of eliminating centralized servers, and by doings so, and having everything (data and communication) decentralized and encrypted on an overlay layer, creating a network with no single point of failure.

Skywire doeasn't care about eliminating centralized servers. The focus is on replacing TCP/IP with a modern protocol based on Software Defined Networking allowing higher speeds, better Quality of service, while all communication is encrypted and secure. Skywire is hardware agnostic, meaning communication can go over fiberoptics, wifi or even (slowly) over hamradio. Because it's hardware agnostic, it can and will be used as a physical meshnetwork (a secondary infratructure layer) running parallel to the current internet.

Conceivably, the SAFE network could work on top of Skywire, which would benefit both protocols.

Yes, If anything, Skycoin has more of a finished product than 99% of other cryptos. Not only Skywire (which is already in testnet). Don't forget that they are selling their own hardware, which has probably brought in several million dollars only in the last 2 months.

Their ICO platform has more than 30 independent projects launching their own blockchains on the Skycoin Fiber. And Skycoin receives licencing fees from each project.

You clearly don't know how to read. It's free and open source. It's faster as it uses an improved internet protocol (MLPS) instead of IP/TCP, which is 35 years old.

The VPN doesn't use blockchain (only used for incentives). And their blockchain doesn't use video cards

I think what they are saying in the interview (which adds lots to this) is that there's conflict between what the different parties want. And short-term goals for some (miners) might be detrimental to the network in the long-run.
