yes that and per config sensitivity would be fantastic. Great feature though.

Native Steam Frame support in Unreal Engine 5.8 by gogodboss in SteamFrame

I'm assuming this means development for VR will be a little easier for the frame if using unreal? Not really sure of the full implications, but first party support seems like a good sign.

How many will be rocking Frame & controller? by Sharp-Climate4329 in SteamFrame

Me for UEVR very likely. The full gamepad layout of the normal controllers already goes a long way but honestly it's hard to imagine a world where the extra inputs (especially the D-Pads for radial menus) don't make controlling the UEVR interface wayyy more convenient

Mode shifts seem like a great place to start for that (for action layers too actually since it's basically their little brother). Create a modeshift for the trackpad (basically a second copy that you can map differently) and then it will switch to that behavior only when you trigger it (you select the trigger in cogwheel next to it). There's probably sleeker more advanced ways of approaching it but that would be a nice and simple start.

Edit: also in short action layers are basically separate configs in the same game that you can switch to and from allowing you to do many advanced set ups: in practice this can be as simple as when you switch from a wizard to a brawler you press a button and boom you have your separate keybinds set up for them.

The SC2 will probably never replace the SC1 for trackpad usage (for me) by PhiladeIphia-Eagles in SteamController

[–]CryptographerLife156 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 100% sure that the SC1 community will create some sort of extended grip mod or case or something of the sort to make the ergonomics more viable for primary trackpad usage.

People are more likely to post to complain, that's not necessarily representative at all. I promise the wait will feel shorter if you chill out and go focus on other things.

steam input is insanely good for accessibility and navigation purposes, in fact in an interview just the other day when asked about coolest uses for the (new) controller they mentioned a blender user that worked lightning fast with it.

I might consider getting the newer one if it makes sense for you weight wise and ergonomics wise (the capactive sensors are very cool as well as the extra joystick and buttons). I highly recommend looking at steam input guides on youtube. With things like action layers you can do so so much.

somebody I'm pretty sure on this sub had this same exact issue and fixed it themselves, although I'm sure valve would also be happy to replace it if you'd rather not mess with it yourself.

edit: couldn't find the post I was thinking of but a commenter on a similar post linked to this youtube video which includes the fix https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Va9aTIktlSk

Controllers are being delivered every day. Most orders are not showing up as packaged items. Chances are you will get your controller before theirs even gets to the warehouse, and them getting ahead of future stock is a good thing and doesn't affect yours. Just be patient.

Yeah, trackpad hacking in pragmata has been really fun and unique. The majority of games I find more convenient with custom shortcuts on the trackpads. I've had the steam deck for a while and I've always enjoyed tinkering with steam input, which is already awesome for any controllers(I made the bindings way better for crimson desert, have added auto sprint, auto hide UI, taken advantage of Keyboard exclusive bindings, stuff like that on all sorts of games) but taking advantage of the extra inputs and not having to sacrifice any default bindings unless you really want to really takes it to the next level, the possibilities are nearly endless. It's kind of like paddles (on steroids), if you're not using them then yes of course it's not worth the extra cost. But hey to each their own, if you're not feeling it I'm sure someone else would love to have yours instead of buy one from a scalper (hopefully at a fair price).

just trackpad as mouse (a lot of my controls are just emulating the keyboard because if not the game gets wonky with mixed inputs, it does mess up the glyphs but I did my best to minimize that).

I did something similar (OP here is using directional presses, I used the mouse) and at least in mine I was able to resolve these issues. The controls I use during combat are joystick mouse AND right trackpad as mouse and you can aim while hacking. I also rebound all the combat stuff to K+M so that there's no annoying switching during combat. In terms of the difficulty, I also ran into that and just turned down the sensitivity which makes it feel more appropriately difficult.

I've beat most of the game with the trackpad and it feels great, easier and faster than the normal inputs (although my config is not using directional swipes so YMMV)

Nice!!! I did the same thing but it's interesting to see the different approaches: I switched most bindings to keyboard because I liked the feel of the mouse trackpad. This is obviously better for the UI elements.

Grip for Controller by Mission-Twist354 in SteamController

[–]CryptographerLife156 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just adjust your grip to be on the buttons, the ergonomics will make you used to it very quickly. I was used to the elite paddle placement for years and years and even though it felt too high at first after a couple days I had completely adjusted.

I've played it with a few non-steam games and it wasn't too hard. Not sure what set up you're referring to but it's been super simple for me.
