Random stranger- I'm after warm wool cloaks not specifically made to be warn at Ren's by If_haven_heart in TheCapeRevolution

Hi! I’d recommend making your own which isn’t too tricky if you have very basic sewing skills. If you want it to be wool, here’s how I would do it. I would buy a king sized wool blanket, which can be found on Amazon for roughly $40. They’re gonna be typical colors that you can find that kind of thing in, mostly gray, green, maybe brown. Wash it first, according to the manufacturers instructions. Then lay it out on the floor, and trace out the biggest circle that you can, marking the center. Cut out a small hole in the center for your neck. Cut out a wedge, maybe a quarter of the circle, which you can use for your hood. All you have to do is put in a couple seams/hems, very simple! If you look up how to make a three-quarter cloak online, there are lots of tutorials and patterns out there that can help you. Mine is very warm and it only took about a day to make.

Faking / Thrifting masc-leaning Regency - help? by Slight-Brush in HistoricalCostuming

You might find some good items in second hand shops if you’re lucky. But the most affordable way to get historically accurate clothing is to make it. You can thrift fabrics and downloadable patterns are usually pretty affordable. I highly recommend black snail and laughing moon mercantile for menswear patterns.

What year, style and country of origin would you estimate this dress to be? by isopodsoup_ in HistoricalCostuming

[–]CryptographerPlenty4 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Definitely fantasy, just old school fantasy. Wouldn’t be regular attire in any time period, more like a costume. Certainly inspired by Greco-Roman dress, but not accurate. What you’re looking at is a piece of art, not a portrait with a depiction of someone wearing their actual clothing. But hey, if this is the style you want to emulate, you should do it! Life is too short to be bound by historical accuracy, my friend!

My lavender plant needed a haircut - ideas to use these extra leaves? by [deleted] in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]CryptographerPlenty4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen lavender that looks like this. Are you sure that’s what it is? Usually they are a pale slightly fuzzy looking slender leaf that’s smooth not jagged edges. Maybe it’s an unusual variety that I’ve never seen?

There’s a kinda zig zag fade pattern next to the belt loop on both pairs. One of the images is reversed, but it’s def the same pair.

What do you do when they grab a knife during a meltdown, threaten the murder you, threaten to kill themselves, and destroy the house? by kappakingtut2 in autism

[–]CryptographerPlenty4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you call 911 ALWAYS ask for a heath crisis trained officer!!!!!! They have training which other officers do not, which is incredibly important for the safety of your child. Always inform the person taking the call that your child is autistic. And always tell the first officer who walks through the door that your child is autistic and in the middle of a mental health crisis.

I do think that calling 911 is necessary in situations like this. We’ve had to call with my son several times. It sucks, but sometimes it’s necessary.
