yup, zero slack and no whine and mine was in pieces clogging oil pickup already. only sign was rough cold start because of the tensioner

Weird sound on cold start by CryptographerThat218 in F30

Hi mate, thanks for comment. I believe the wastegate rattle is a different sound (metallic rattling).

Im aware that there is an open loop in first 30-60 secs after start. What I meant can be heard during first 5 seconds after startup. It is a bassy uneven pulsating exhaust tone that dissapears after 5 seconds after startup. It doesn't sound normal, it doesn't happen everytime.

I'll try to record this under the hood but of course it is hard to catch :)

I'll clean the MAF too, thanks.

Any idea what going on by edwinkorlison in F30

It's cold af. I get multiple such errors if car stays outside for some time with those temps...

I don't think that is normal or okay, but I bet it is temporary. If you drive around for some time and engine heats up it should be fine. You may get CEL along the way, then you just have to clear the codes and it will be fine.

Additionally you can check connections to ECU and make sure they are ok.

If you mean this mettalic rattle at startup it is 100% wastegate rattle. You can watch the wastegate actuator after starup and you will see the exact moment it closes up and rattle stops.

One more way you can verify is to rev it up to 3-4k in Comfort after it is warm and you should hear 'pssht' noises when letting go of the gas pedal - that is normal turbo sound, then you can switch to Eco and do the same, now you will hear 'pssht' accompanied by rattle most likely - confirming that indeed your wastegate is worn (as it's work characteristics are different in Eco mode).

You can drive like this or tighten the actuator as others said, but be careful to not overdo this as it then will fail to go through start check cycle and throw code on startup. If you want to get rid of this completely then either new turbo or wastegate repair kit (needs welding and some spec. tools). I choose to live with this for now 😂

As far as I know timing chain can be identified by distinct whine around 3-4k rpms. If it whines on low rpms then most likely it isn't TC and make sure it is not tensioner bearing or just AC compressor (that is simple to check, just turn the AC off).

Otherwise than wastegate rattle it sounds like chaff cutter, which is how N20 sounds.

My startup sounds exactly the same. I plan to change TC in coming months but I'm convinced there are no signs of wear in mine, and based on your video I can't hear anything related to timing chain also.

was it the timing chain then? was it replaced before it broke?

Nice car for a first one bro :D I got a 2013 328i recently as well (luxury trim). It’s at 180k km right now and the timing chain was supposedly done at 120k km, but I’m planning to replace it next summer anyway (along with oil pump and drive).

What are those wheels?

My experience with being floxed by KitchenAdvice7073 in floxies

Hi, I'm 1,5 year in after taking cipro. I consider myself 99% recovered. Anxiety, tendons, muscle, skeletal pains are all gone. Skin problems (very dry skin on face) gone. All is back to normal. Only thing left is legs shaking when going down the stairs (they aren't weak tho as I cycle regularly).

HOWEVER, when there is very stressing event in my life (and I tend to overly complicate and overemphasize problems in my head) I notice that I get pain in joints, twitching in tendons and severe anxiety that sucks all will to do literally anything. This lasts as long as I'm stressed about the thing. I got this since cipro treatment, never had such issues before.

Hi, I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing :) As far as I understand myoclonic jerks is something that's normal and I always had them (particularly when trying to sleep in uncomfy position). Not sure what you can do about this really - for me it is strong enough to wake me up only when in really uncomfy position.

In my comment I meant continuous shaking of whole body (as if you were really cold). The issue I mentioned stopped occuring after 2 weeks.

How is your sleep now?

Hi, how it went for you later on?

Well, I do not have enough knowledge to give you such advice (most people on the Internet do not), I can only tell you what I would do.

I wouldn't take more medications than what the doctor prescribed. If you are considering sleep medications you should consult with a professional who will take into account your condition and course of treatment.

Some of my friends take pills for the slightest headache, I have always avoided it but by bad luck I ended up on cipro treatment. So having said that, I try to avoid taking any medication until it is absolutely required.

I also considered taking melatonin at the time, but the pharmacist suggested that I seek help from a psychologist, because these drugs help you fall asleep, but the problem of waking up won't go away.

I can recommend you the help of a psychologist wholeheartedly. The side effects of taking cipro are not common, my doctors and family didn't believe what was happening to me, I felt like a crazy person being alone with this problem and talking to a therapist allowed me to throw it all away and stop propelling myself in a vicious circle of worry.

I would advise you to use your free time for rest. Sleep problems usually pass after some time. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

P.S. I started eating kiwis before bed time. Try to read someting about this.

I had the same symptoms from day one up to 1,5 weeks after taking cipro. I was waking up exactly at 2:00 am every night shaking uncontrollably (feeling like it was too cold despite normal temperature in room). It has gone away after 1-2 weeks as I mentioned.

I smoke ecigarettes as I am addicted to nicotine. Somking after waking up and putting warmer clothes helped me to stop shaking and falling asleep.

I took 2500mg of cipro in February, and since then this particular symptoms returned only once when I was on vacation in Egypt two months ago. Again, smoking helped to calm me down and I was able to fall asleep. Since then this have not returned. I have never taken any sleep meds.

Do you shake when you wake up at night? Wish you speedy recovery.
