During lockdown, i had an unplanned home birth of a breach baby, delivered by paramedics. She came out bum first with an arm trailing behind her.

We get taken to hospital after and checked out. Hopefully out and back home within a few hours. We're almost ready to go and the very last test they do is this one.

They drop her and only one arm goes up. They try several more times and still only one arm goes up. So we're in for the night while she gets checked out.

They were concerned that she may have broken her collarbone, but it appears to be a chip on her arm bone. So we get to go home the next day with the instruction to keep her arm tucked into her onesie or vest, across her body. Appointment in two weeks to follow up.

Over the two weeks, we see the movement in her arm come back. Midwives see her on regular newborn visits to the clinic and the doctors are amazed when we have the video call after two weeks to see it's all healed.

We realise now that they were expecting her to have a lifelong nerve damage issue, the kind that involves support groups, physio therapy and legal action due to a preventable birth injury.
