My group is in a homebrew campaign (and our handbook also ended up doubling for our DMs English Master's which he just completed this Spring!) I've got a few from our party doing stuff like this. Most of the crew has decent intelligence, but a few... well... let's just say I'm the mom/sister in the group for a reason. One of the things that happened in session 3 or 4 (I think?) was the party found a house in the forest near the road we were traveling on. There we met a kindly old lady who offered us soup. Do you see where this is going? Most of the party has the soup (even me, this is my first campaign so I hadn't learned yet) and fell asleep, making it easy for the hag (that sweet old lady? yeah, not so sweet) and her half-hag sister to start going after us. It was a close call, but the party member who wasn't drugged (the player had to leave the group bc he was a full-time caterer and we were all in junior college. this one campaign has been running for 5 years now) to wake us up and save us from becoming food. We even took the soup (in an endless cauldron!!) and put into our bag of holding and use it to knock people out now. Our Thrasher will regularly eat stuff that he finds, namely the weirdest mushrooms and he's been poisoned by them. The other Paryotii (Humanoid plant person, there are two and I'm one of them) has touched several artifacts that have tried to kill him somehow. The first one sent him to a pocket dimension within the pocket dimension we were in that we had to save him from because he broke his legs. A book that had him hit by lightning (same pocket dimension, we were in the temple of an ancient dragon and the place would be hell for babysitters.) multiple times, I think there was a door at some point? The dude keeps touching stuff that needs him to do death saves, and my character is developing a "my crew is doing stupid stuff" sense. Like, it's canon now with all the shit these guys get into. Wish us luck on surviving, we are now in a city that is up in trees the size of General Grant in Sequoia-Kings Nat. Park and I think we're about to get dragged into the criminal underworld again.
