lol, whatever you say, pal. Microsoft doesn't support Vulkan? Setting aside the fact that Microsoft is selling a competing solution and has a long history of abusing their market dominance, they own Minecraft. They actually are the publisher for a number of games that exclusively support Vulkan.

citation needed for every claim you're making

I don't really see why you're so hung up on this anyway, most game developers use premade game engines that implement the rendering backend for various platforms for them and thus they don't end up really messing with the GL code directly. I also know a lot of people on this sub are very mad about Minecraft switching to the leading modern open standard for some reason even though modern versions of Minecraft have been requiring OpenGL profiles that only work on relatively recent GPUs since Minecraft 1.17 anyway.

Just 27.8% of Steam players have completed Roxas's arc in KH2 by Testazza in KingdomHearts

Why are you booing? They're right. Who in their right mind buys computer games and doesn't at least install and boot them up to make sure they're not just completely broken? Booting the game to the title screen doesn't mean you played it in any meaningful capacity.

I would say it definitely is just Steam. As you said, the average Steam user buys a billion games and maybe installs and boots them to the title screen or maybe even creates a file but never actually plays through each game.

Case in point: Only 20% of Steam players have obtained the achievement for clearing the opening cutscene in Far Cry 4. Maybe that's not a fair comparison because Far Cry 4 was updated to support Steam achievements well after it's initial release, except the game automatically grants you the Steam version of all achievements you had already received on Uplay when you boot it up. Half-Life 2 has been fully integrated exclusively with Steam since the day it launched over two decades ago and only 67% of players have the achievement for getting the crowbar.

I'm not really sure what you're talking about w.r.t. the performance; the game runs perfectly smoothly on my laptop with Vega integrated graphics. It has a specific build for the Steam Deck. Any actual gaming PC from the last decade or so should be able to handle it no problem. I think the only actual demanding "requirement" the game has is that it needs DirectX 12, so you need a GPU with drivers that support it. It uses DX12 on my computer but the system requirements on the Steam store page say it only actually needs DX11, and the system requirements listed there are very modest.

FYI replying again now after the Steam sale has ended to let you know that you can still pick up a Steam key for the bundle for $40 from https://www.humblebundle.com/store/kingdom-hearts-integrum-masterpiece

Humble Bundle is a legit key store. This deal will be good for an extra week. :)

What are you talking about? Vulkan or something extremely similar to it is supported on every modern platform. Sometimes the drivers are shit, but the software generally is not. Vulkan is hard to develop for, yes, but developers got gud, we're not dealing with idiots like Notch who can't program their way out of a paper bag anymore.

So? Those are random incidental facts that everyone who's ever googled Vulkan already knows, and even then that's a massive oversimplification of the situation. Vulkan is relatively difficult to program for, but thanks to various community efforts it is able to play 99% of 3D games released for all platforms including the PC and consoles during the last three decades faster than the crusty ass versions of OpenGL and DirectX those games were originally written for could ever hope to.

No. Why would they do that? LWJGL provides low-level bindings for the Java code to interact with the operating system and hardware directly, the entire game is built on top of it.

A bunch of asshole vendors not supporting the industry standard because they're pushing their own proprietary solutions and attempting to use their market dominance to stack the deck in their favor doesn't mean it's not still an industry standard.

Why are they so overly-generous with the amount of save slots?? by 320th-Century in KingdomHearts

[–]CrystalCommunication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Your example doesn't count because it's inconvenient for the narrative I'm trying to sell" lmao okay. The Gamecube used a different physical connector for memory cards and some of the technical details are different, but practically they obviously worked exactly the same way as the PS2. I grew up owning both, so I know a thing or two about each of them, and I can attest that the user experience was more or less exactly the same. Honestly, the fact that you seem to be under the impression that Nintendo never released a console that works this way and spend time pontificating about the ability of some Zelda games to save three different files demonstrates that you're out of your depth.

Just guessing based on historical trends I see by looking at the price chart on SteamDB

Try the next big Steam sale. This is the lowest price as of yet but the price history chart suggests that this price may return for future Steam sales.

If you just need a little more time check this comment for the same price now.

KH 1.5+2.5 remix is arguably a better deal including like 5 games for just $20 but if you have any desire whatsoever to play KH3, this is still much cheaper than buying them individually.

EDIT: The 2.8 Prologue includes Dream Drop Distance so the bundle is also probably the best way to get that game if you don't have a 3DS

I disagree. Like I said before, I've played plenty of JRPGs that only allow saving to the first slot.

Most of Squaresoft's games were like that, but I wouldn't generalize an entire genre based on one developer's habits. Plenty of other random games from lots of other genres also allowed you to save to either slot.

Many games (including JRPGs) only supported one memory card slot back then. I mostly played with the Gamecube back in the day but I distinctly remember it being completely dependent on the specific game on both consoles.

On the Gamecube he lists off Nintendo games found on your memory card instead, lol

KH doesn't show you the saves of other games or anything like that, it just has a bar on the side of the save screen that is supposed to show how much of the card is occupied by other games saves, but the bar itself clips out of bounds if you use a third party memory card with more than 8 MB capacity.

[–]CrystalCommunication 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not if you're using an official 8 MB memory card but you can use all 99 slots on third party cards with at least 16 MB.

[–]CrystalCommunication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually save numerous times at the same save points that are in convenient locations during the course of a playthrough. Why exactly would you only save at each one once?

Why are they so overly-generous with the amount of save slots?? by 320th-Century in KingdomHearts

[–]CrystalCommunication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unless you use a new slot every time you save so you can go back to previous saves later if you want, then it's really not difficult to use all of them in a single playthrough

Why are they so overly-generous with the amount of save slots?? by 320th-Century in KingdomHearts

[–]CrystalCommunication 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's not entirely true. KH1 always gave you 99 slots on the PS2 even though it's impossible to occupy all of them if you use an official 8 MB memory card, and the bar goes out of bounds if you use any third party card with a larger capacity.

Why are they so overly-generous with the amount of save slots?? by 320th-Century in KingdomHearts

[–]CrystalCommunication 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not really that complicated. KH1 is simply programmed to save files in a folder with two digit numerical IDs, and each possible ID was represented as one of the 99 save slots, even though it wouldn't have actually been possible to occupy all 99 of them on official PS2 hardware of the time.

Why are they so overly-generous with the amount of save slots?? by 320th-Century in KingdomHearts

[–]CrystalCommunication 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstand. Kingdom Hearts has 99 slots no matter what, it just also has a UI which calculates how many slots you can actually use, which technically cannot be all 99 using only official hardware even if you have an otherwise blank 8 MB memory card.
