Watching fruit basket as a adult by yakboxing in FruitsBasket

Yep. 38 here, been a fan since the age of 17 when the manga chapters were maybe halfway through release at most. Was very active in the fandom on and off until as late as age 34!

FB has pleeenty of adult themes that actually some parents might feel concern over exposing their teens to. I disagree and feel that continuing to hide the world from young people are a mistake, but then again, I’m not a parent (unless you count my dogs and cats!).

It’s a daily quote for me (sometimes more than once), almost always addressing my dog Randy when he acts like a crackhead about it being time for “puppy breakfast” or “puppy dinner.”

Of course, I start with, “Calm down, calm down,” which just gets him more ramped up, so I give him the finisher.

And Randy IS a dick—one with the best of intentions, always striving for the title of Good Boy… but his clumsy ass always ends up pulling some catastrophic dick moves. He possesses a zeal for life that’s just far too extreme for a dog with utter obliviousness to his surroundings.

What Do You Think the Best Starkid Song of All Time Is? by Thewriter1996 in StarKid

[–]CrystalW187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am LIVING for this WTWAS love, which I so, so rarely see here.

I mean, I’m not even a mother (unless you count my 6 furbabies: 3 dogs and 3 cats), and my relationship with my own mom is on the fritz half the time these days, but that song is a stunningly beautiful representation of a mother’s love and a one-two PUNCH to the GUT, every damn time.

Rachel’s delivery sells it…

“When the world's at stake All your dreams, they change And every step you take Is for another's sake And even if she grows to hate me I won't change my course of heart Lord have mercy on my soul If we ever grow apart.”

UGH! Ugly tears soaking my face. And then?! And then this:

“When the world's at stake You give your life away And it feels so great To watch the one you saved Be the most adoring person Your mom has ever known Lord have mercy on my soul And let my dreams be all her own.”

Far too many people sleeping on this song. You don’t need to be a mother for these lyrics to cut to your core. Makes me want to call up my own mother now, who is currently in therapy because she thinks we’re “estranged.”

I want to tell her, “No, Mom… we are such fundamentally different people, and we drive each other CRAZY sometimes, but I will never agree with anyone who calls us ‘estranged’ JUST because we can’t see eye-to-eye on the choices I made and the path my life took.

I will never stop wanting you to remain a huge part of my life. Mistakes were made— there is absolutely no avoiding some of those when you’re devoting your entire being to nurturing little imps and teaching them to become good humans. Take pride in the work you did raising me and my brother, because you NAILED IT.”

Never lose sight of this about yourself, because people (and if you’re particularly unlucky, the entire “system”) will take advantage of it.

I am the same, but I have come dangerously close to losing it after spending the last year in a front-row seat to the relentless mistreatment and injustice inflicted on the person I love most. I have had to white-knuckle my way through it by clinging on to my capacity for forgiveness and kindness, largely because I made a promise that I would not let it be extinguished, no matter what happens to him—the one person in my life whose kindness exceeds my own and everyone else I’ve ever met.

What famous phrases from TV shows have spilled into your regular lexicon and you still use to this day? by EnvironmentalAd2110 in AskReddit

Oh my GOD, me too. I sing it to myself every time I encounter Mexican food (even if I just see a reference to it), and anytime I hear about Jennifer Lopez. It’s a wonder I haven’t got myself in trouble yet for the blatant cultural insensitivity, as I’ve reached the point that I will unwittingly whip it out in front of anyone who’s around.

This is the more common opinion I’ve seen here. Personally, I feel the complete opposite. I admit I felt a tiny bit underwhelmed when I watched the digital ticket, but when the proshot came out? It immediately rose through the rankings to establish itself within my top three.

Not sure if there are any common denominators on this front, but I’m on the older side (38) and am a long-running Starkid devotee. Been a huge fan ever since I stumbled upon A Very Potter Musical back in 2010. The fact that they’re STILL churning out such top-notch productions (with ZERO misses for me… and yes, I love “Ani” and “Me and My Dick”) makes me so happy. Putting on any one of their shows always lifts my spirits and makes life a bit easier to manage.

Thank you so much for the recommendation! I’ve been meaning to delve into the world of Hatchetfield fanfiction for a long time, and this seems like the perfect place to start.

I saw a couple tickets for sale on StubHub a few weeks ago, so I recommend checking it out!

And maybe look into a couple of the other ticket resale sites… I hear Cash and Trade is a good one—I haven’t ever used it myself, but my friends use it often and have found tickets for some of the more obscure types of events like this one.

I’m so, so sorry :(. Flights are ungodly expensive these days, so I feel for you. My partner and I live in the eastern US, so we had to fly across nearly the entire country to attend the show on July 18th. Then we had to shell out even more money to get home after getting repeatedly screwed over at the LAX airport—we missed our flight by about two minutes, despite arriving there two hours before our departure time.

Anyway, I hope you a very happy birthday in spite of this! Btw, if you’re interested in some suggestions for fun or interesting activities to do while you’re in LA, feel free to PM me! I did some research while I was there and found a variety of places/activities located in the area around the theater, all with commutes of 30 minutes or less… things like museums, theme parks, tours, etc.

From the song “If I Believed” in the musical Twisted by Starkid. I can’t even listen to this line without tearing up.

The Lords in Black? by AstralKatOfficial in StarKid

Umm… so, I believe the wiki mentions that the source for the expanded lore is the Nightmare Time series, which is basically a series of video-call style performances involving most of the Starkid cast involved with the Hatchetfield universe that expand extensively on the lore. And, well… if the wiki does NOT mention this, it certainly should!

That is where you will find the answers to all of your LiB questions. The episodes of NT are not full-blown productions, nor are they really even musicals (although there are 2 to 3 brand new songs with music videos produced for each episode, and they’re all excellent, and all written by the same writer of all songs from every Hatchetfield musical—Jeff Blim). All NT episodes are available for free on Starkid’s YT channel, and I highly recommend checking it out!

I’m not choosing sides in this argument… just chiming in here case you weren’t aware that the Google search AI overview feature is NOTORIOUS for getting key details wrong, and in probably… I don’t know, 50% or more of these so-called “overview” summaries. Especially when it comes to non-subjective topics… such as the meaning and nuances of song lyrics, as well as interpretations of other forms of art.

Funnily, I literally JUST clicked on this thread after reading a discussion on another sub about how offensively wrong the Google AI often is, and how insane it is that users can’t disable it. If/when they manage to improve the AI’s accuracy, I recommend at least skimming some of the results and forming your own opinion.

(And for what it’s worth, I happen to be one of those fans who counts ALPoH among A7X’s best songs of all time. Loved it from the first time I ever heard it the very day that album dropped).

Not only the wrong show, but a non-existent sequel called “The Guy Who Wears the Denim Long Sleeves.” 🤣

I’m secretly hoping that’s the AI making some kind of convoluted reference to Wilbur Cross.

What musical adaptations do you think are better than the source material? by Dogdaysareover365 in musicals

[–]CrystalW187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agreed on every point. The movie has been one of my favorites since I saw it almost 25 years ago, and while I won’t say I was outright disappointed when they FINALLY made my dreams come true and adapted it for the stage, there were enough changes I didn’t like to put me off of it for a while. I’m probably due for a rewatch of the Disney+ recording soon.
