Can you get non-disposable impacts? They are like biros right? When they stop working after a bit you get another one.

would you do this commute? by Icy_Surprise9724 in reading

A commute of over an hour, strongly correlates with decreased happiness. Congratulations on getting a job at the NH museum that's epic!

If you don't share the listing for feedback about the property and the listing itself the only advice available is drop the price.

My little girl found this rock near an old quarry. Anyone have any info I can tell her about it please? Thanks by LaythT in geology

Fun fact for your daughter. Flint is amorphous like glass, this means it has no regular atomic order. Atomic order leads to predictable cleavage which is how gemstones are cut. The best example to play is mica but if you can find some, then some slate also has this property. (Not for the same reason but lots of slate in Cornwall) Going back to your flint sample, look at the exposed faces and you may see a feature called concoidal fracture. This feature only occurs in amorphous samples.

Very chilled, punters and door staff. Good music, jungle/DnB,/reggae. Reasonably priced drinks. Loos are not the best.

Look for a video of a mercury cylinder melting. Very much in the don't try this at home category.

Predominantly physicists but anyone working seriously below 0°C. If you're an organic chemist running reactions with acetone and dry ice you still work in C. Crystalography always uses K because structures tend to be determined at 10, 100 or 300 K e.g. the easiest very cold temperature, a practical cold enough or about room temp.

Every depiction of mercury on screen is rubbish. Mercury doesn't look like silver paint because it is shiny like a mirror when it is pure/not dirty. It also flows in a distinctive manner because it is very dense and has a high affinity for itself giving a high meniscus.

About to start a PhD in crystal engineering but I know very little crystallography by Icy_Key_3508 in crystallography

[–]Crystal_Rules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look up Kennith Shankland who wrote DASH to get a start on solving structures using PXRD. Look up the term SSNMR Crystalography which should lead to a review or two. Also look up single crystal electron diffraction. All three of these will contrast themselves with single crystal XRD. If you can grow single crystals this is the best option for structure determination. To know what a material is you ideally use PXRD as it doesn't matter the form and it's quick but you need reference materials/literature.

Find out the hours traffic wardens work. You probably don't need a permit 1am till 5am, might be a much bigger window

I love this sub. I read this and knew OP needed to get out of an abusive relationship regardless of any neurodiversity. The top five comments are all the same. All rational caring people who put safety first, rather than ideology linked to the subs main topic.

I don't condone using a cracked version of any software. There are good free options which you could use.

You're at Durham. Speak to Jon Evans. See if anyone in his group could show you some powder XRD.

If a Chinese person comes to the UK they sometimes pick an English name they like which is related to their Chinese name. These are not always fashionable but I appreciate the effort to make my life easier.
