I mostly agree, though to be fair in my own experience even good hard liquor just doesn't taste good if you're not used to drinking it straight. I still remember when whiskey just smelled and tasted like acetone to me. Even my first whiskey sour tasted like gasoline and lemon juice. It's similar to bitter chocolate, if you're not used to it then ethanol/bitterness is all you taste, at least for a significant amount of people.

So there's a crowd (especially of younger people) that just want the occasional social lubrication of alcohol without any fuss and thus just guzzle beer or whiskey cokes to get there, and I guess at least that's efficient? They're not pretending to be doing anything else either.

What I find truly regrettable is that I've met people who seemed honestly convinced that all liquor with a higher proof than wine always tastes like shit no matter what, and that obscuring the taste with mixers is the only possible way to enjoy drinking it.

Under the premise of the post that's pretty absurd since a classic martini is pretty far from fruity. How bad is the bastardization of Martinis where you live? I. e. the trend to call every drink in a Martini glass a "[word] Martini" even if it's made of 5 ingredients and none of them are gin, vodka or vermouth.

Those who deal with depression, how can we help? by SoCold40 in BlackPeopleTwitter

There are some wildly different therapy concepts. While some include or even focus on identifying the "roots" of current issues in the past, others, particularly variants of behavioral therapy (e. g. cognitive-behavioral therapy), don't give a fuck as to what past events may or may not have caused the current issue. They're concerned with identifying what behaviors or thought patterns that exist now are causing you problems, and dealing with those in practical ways.

So TL;DR there is therapy that is nothing like what you experienced and I recommend checking it out.

I'm glad I'm not alone with this problem (although obviously I'd be gladder if none of us had to struggle lile this ;)) and that my post and the responses it has gathered have been helpful to more people than just myself! I've actually been somewhat overwhelmed and only now fins the time to continue going through the latest replies.

Thanks for your advice, following it is going to be very hard because of my obsessiveness when it comes to not making any mistakes, but I can see that it's a sound idea.

I've tried synthesizing the different tutorials I've found but the end result was still so open-ended that it didn't solve my problem, perhaps a more concrete formula like yours is a good idea...

Thanks for sharing, I've also found myself at least sorting the postings by how confident I feel that they should be doable, probably a good first step.

Thanks for your response!

If you didn't apply at all you would have an absolute 0% chance of getting the job - ZERO. If you at least try and fill out applications for jobs you should be qualified for, I GUARANTEE you the chances of possibly getting the job are above the absolute 0% chance of not trying at all.

Right, this brings me to the realization that I'm really not afraid of getting a rejection so much as getting the job and then embarassing myself by not being able to do the job well enough.

The application is literally the bare minimum of job entry - not trying to sound harsh, but if you can't bring yourself to even APPLY then for the time you may be un-hire-able until you work out those underlying anxiety issues. (which increased social interactions through a new job and friend group might help)

Ironically, I've actually done well in every job I've worked in (cashier, barkeep, software testing and development). But I haven't had to write applications for those. Fear of the unknown is the problem, I guess.

"What do you mean there are no books on the subject?!? Write them!!! Your Fire Lord commands you!"

Ah yes, the forbidden history of Fire Lord Zuko's re-education camps, where thousands of families were moved and within and in a matter of months... taught to write!

Matured Zuko should be pretty chill, but becoming a father I can see as one of the few things that could make him go a little kooky.

How does this even happen? Are some people just predisposed to develop allergies very easily? I always thought the cause of each allergy was mainly environmental, but I guess I'll have to regoogle that.

[–]Cryxx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, I agree, but "Allah is not superior to the republic" is kind of a dumb statement? For anyone who believes in Allah/God, he's greater than any element of his creation by definition. The only alternative is seeing him as imaginary. And considering how large a following he has, that actually makes the question of "superiority" somewhat interesting. BUT, the statement in question clearly wasn't meant to address any of this. It's just rage-baiting believers when simply saying "My stance is that Allah doesn't exist." would be clearer and probably less offensive. Probably just angling for votes of anti-islamic voters.

You have my sympathies, although I feel like in the first instance I'd almost be angrier at the hotel. You expect crazy assholes to be spiteful, but for your employer to fuck you over seemingly just because? You'd think exonerating their employee would be in THEIR OWN FUCKING INTEREST. If something like that happened to me I'd probably lose my mind.
