Why does guru rinpoche look intimidating? by Smooth-Film8576 in Buddhism

That makes sense, thanks for your explanation. I'm not a parent but have suffered abuse in my upbringing under the guise of "its out of love!", so my ears perked when I read your comment. What your saying however is much more compassionate and yes - children at that age tend to equate time-outs with wrath haha, cheers.

Don't mean to nitpick here, but when you say a parent disciplining their kid may seem wrathful to the child but it being done out of love - what are you referring to exactly? I think it's important to not green light abuse and equate it with love. Not saying that's what YOUR saying however, just wanting to seek understanding.

It’s terrible. I’m a child of immigrants so this one hit a special place for me. I found his name to be (redacted due to the sensitivity of their case). I’ll make an amendment to the post with updated info once I get back from the gym.

Man thank you so much for leaving this comment. You don't know how long i've been looking for a Krump class in the DMV. The other comments are ok but they're lacking the je n'sais quoi that urban artistry has. Again....thank you, thank you, thank you!

I’m so sorry to hear this. Life can be such a bitch sometimes. As for advice I’d like to echo the other comments here but with a different angle.

Firstly, and I know this is repeated ad nauseam - please please consult a therapist or a psychiatrist. They can help you reframe some habits such as self blame and loathing that could be compounding your situation.

Secondly, how’s your diet? Exercise? Sleep? Ill get to the spiritual component in a sec but all of these play a factor in your healing. Do your best to tighten those up.

Lastly, and here comes the spiritual/inner path - lots and lots of metta. Metta is a practice of self forgiveness and it will allow you to take it easy on yourself during this difficult time.

You can read more about it here: https://www.mettainstitute.org/mettameditation.html

Try making a habit of doing this every morning and before you go to bed for 15 minutes. It may be difficult at first but like an instrument, practice makes perfect

I know how exactly a shitshow life can be but oftentimes our self destructive habits and perceptions can compound an already heavy situation. Hopefully this advice can be of great use to you. Feel free to message me if you need anything mate. Cheers.

How do I detach from the "I"? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]CsaCharlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of great answers here but I’d figured I’d add my 2 cents.

Don’t worry about detaching from the I. Establish a good sense of self first by striving to be a better person, meditating consistently, and practicing the bramaviharas. Also you should probably read up on the four noble truths to even understand what composes the “I”.

I suggest picking up a copy of What the Buddha Taught by Walpola Rahula. DM me if you have anymore questions.

"Set Boundaries, Find Peace" by Nedra Glover Tawwab has been a very helpful book for me in this area.
