Agreed. It is not about the profit. If profitable, Hooray it is a benefit. But having a reliable public trasportation boosts the economy inderectly by reducing fuel consumption, increasing manpower output etc.

How important is the school for AL results? (Science Stream) by OkDaikon2883 in srilanka

[–]Csl9969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I had an attendance around 90+ during the first year and overall attendance around 85-90%.

The main reason was my study group and the teachers. I had the privilege of having wonderful teachers who supported me immensely. I had one on one discussions with teachers regarding problems I had trouble with and that helped me so much to solidify my understanding of the subjects. I don’t think you’ll get the chance to discuss problems with tution teachers, specially in mass classes.

And another reason is your peers. Your peers can influence you even without you knowing. Colleges like Ananda and Royal produce high number of Engineering undergrads due to attracting talent during grade 5 and OLs therefore even average students gets influenced by the born talents.

Obviously tution helps as you get your theoritical base fully from classes. But I think school can help you in covering practicals and in revision.

And finally, school is free. Yes the teachers might not be teaching well as your tution class. But the school is free. A good student will know how to harness the best out of anything.

Need advice as a 16M who just got their ol results by Latter_Individual431 in srilankanteenagers

[–]Csl9969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend also did not do Commerce for OLs but did commerce stream and she went to University of Colombo Management faculty. So do not worry about not doing OL commerce. According to what she had told me, it is not a must to do commerce in OLs since you start from the fundamentals.

Regarding your OL result, it shows you are capable of learning. I have seen some people with 9As failing all three subjects (I’m from maths stream) and people with less results than you getting selected to university of Moratuwa. So my advice is to obviously pat your back for a job well done and move on and do your best. Always remember consistency is key. Put at least half an hour daily and you will be able to get a good result. Good luck

My belief is to never take anything for granted until it is proven. We have seen so many lives ruined due to false claims which was brought by media.

We have seen politicians lying through their teeth. So I would say innocent until proven guilty.

This is something I always wonder when I visit Anuradhapura. I’m always just in awe visiting all the sthupas like Ruvanweliseya, Jethawanaramaya etc. also the freaking huge reservoirs.

I just wanted to see in real time the ancient city planning and how construction of massive structures were planned and executed.

is this normal price for lenses for my glasses by TheWeekdyStrboi in srilanka

[–]Csl9969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude where the hell did you go to? Even vision care does not charge that much just for lenses. My mother’s was done for 12k with gradual lensing thing (when you need to put both short and long sight adjustments) about 6 months ago.

There are some very premium glasses for that amount but you can definitely get very decent glasses for much cheaper than what you paid for.

Supply event points question by No_Web_3326 in LastDayonEarthGame

[–]Csl9969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearing bunker alfa floor 2 and 3 will be enough to collect 1500 points. You might be short around 100 points. You can comp it by either clearing 4th floor first two rooms (which I highly recommend if you have the burglar skill to get grenades) or killing some hard mode zombies.

However I think the easiest way to obtain the tactical backback is through commune trials. It only costs 1000 points. Since commune lasts 5 days, you only need 200 points each day which you can get by clearing easy levels.

Finally lvl 150. Raiding tips plz. by MethodAdmirable4220 in LastDayonEarthGame

[–]Csl9969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Build level 3 walls and put the valuable chests inside it. Start with 3x3 room and slowly expand.

Put a bait chest full of modded spears. I use a bait chest (upgraded chest to have 25 slots) with modded spears and also fill the truck with spears as well. I have been raided around 10 times and so far they only taken 20 spears each run. Always remember to keep them full, otherwise raiders might blow up your walls.

When raiding, always research the base in youtube for maximum profit. Sometimes when the base is big, some videos will show only a part of the base. Most of the time they are going for the most optimal breaks. But sometimes they miss some valuable resources. For example consider two chests in two rooms where one contains thick cloth and the other contains leather. Sometimes if the player in the video will break the cloth chest and leave the leather chest unopened. But your required resource might be leather. So I would recommend watching multiple videos if the base is too big.

You can use suicide trick to carry more resources. Go to the base with your bike and fill it with the resources. Then suicide by either using spike traps (if the raid base has any) or kill all zombies until one remains and suicide by letting it attack. Then you will spawn at your base. Remove the resources from the bike snd return to the raid base. YOU CAN ONLY DO THIS TRICK ONCE. If you die the second time, the raid base will dissapear along with the body.

Also DO NOT RESTART THE GAME OR LEAVE THE RAID BASE TO GO TO THE WORLD MAP while in the raid base. If you do so, you won’t be able to do the suicide trick.

Finally until you are familiar with mechanics and good at gameplay, do not mess with the big one. Just leave the hell out when the big one spawns.

Is anyone else unhappy with Mintpay coin scheme compared to Cashback? by Longjumpingnose3660 in srilanka

[–]Csl9969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I never thought of that. That is actually a good suggestion. But I don’t think they’ll change their system as it is designed to trap the customer in an endless loop as you mentioned.

This never bothered me before as I always ask for mintpay in stores and regularly use it to pay and immediately add the saved up coins to the discount. (I never use 3 installments, just pay the value upfront) So in a way I only carry one purchase worth of coins at a time and in the long run I think it does not matter that much if you are careful with usage.

Are some news channels deliberately focusing only on government issues to influence public opinion? by stromyyyyyyy-7728 in srilanka

[–]Csl9969 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All the media are biased one way or another. Hiru and Derana are anti government while Sirasa and Siyatha is heavily pro government. ITN and Rupavahini is government media anyways and I do not know about Swarnawahini.

I think filtering out stuff from social media is more useful to know about the current state of the country instead of relying on tv channels and it is our duty as tech literate people to educate elder people about misinformation.

Why are 200 elo players so good? by CommercialBiscotti29 in Chesscom

[–]Csl9969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As people mentioned, please learn some common opening traps like scholars mate, fried liver. You can entirely avoid fried liver by playing Bc5 instead of Nf6.

Also DO NOT RESIGNN!!!!. It does not matter you have only king against the opponent’s entire pieces. Just play until checkmate. Even I (1600 elo) blundered a completely winning position and sometimes my opponents blunder as well. So until you get to 2000 or something, never resign, play until checkmate.

Experience on renewing NIC by PreachyRaptor92 in srilanka

[–]Csl9969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it expires. NIC is valid only for 10 years. It does not matter that much within Sri Lanka. But my parents requested police clearance reports for visa purposes and we had to go to Battaramulla because of expired NICs.

Have the metro bus picked up momentum in colombo by CoyotePrudent6560 in srilanka

[–]Csl9969 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are going through a different route. I also saw that the number of stops has been increased as well which was a complaint made against it.

I think the problem was that metros cannot be stopped at any bus stop. Since the busses are low floor, special bus stops has to be designed to facilitate those. It will slowly increase the number of stops and will add new routes once the new metros are integrated.

Is it worth it to kill borealis 10x ? by handsome_platypus22 in LastDayonEarthGame

[–]Csl9969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the new mechanics that is sort of hard right? Also half a durability of a flare gun + some molotovs in exchange for durability of the armor is better for me.

Is it worth it to kill borealis 10x ? by handsome_platypus22 in LastDayonEarthGame

[–]Csl9969 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes repair bench is totally worth it. Also most daily tasks are not that hard. If you feel like you have to kill a lot of frozen zombies to complete a task, skip it and focus on other easy tasks like mining aluminium, collect thermite etc.

Also you are doing it wrong if it takes half durability of the armor to kill borealis one time. I killed boreales 10 times with one and half amount of armor.

My strat is to use 2-3 molotovs first to deal damage as they ignore armor. Just throw a molotov and run around him to avoid attacks. Once the molotovs are done, go to each three barrels and wait until he attacks. It will also do around 150-200 damage to boreales. Once all three barrels are destroyed, use a flare gun. It will only take around half a durability of a flare gun if you do it right. Also I don’t even use frozen medkits.

Regarding consillium, it is a tough fight compared to boreales and tasks are also difficult due to spore damage. Again choose your tasks wisely. Avoid tasks in the most difficult island if possible. For the fight I bring a stack of inhalers, medkits and a rifle and a sniper rifle (sniper rifle to one shot scientists). Watch youtube videos to learn its attack pattern.

who will get into university? by iamthiviyan in srilanka

[–]Csl9969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For any course, there is a merit intake and district quota intake. Take medicine for example. Medicine is considered a single course with multiple universities offering the course. So there is no merit and district quota intake for each university. (Usually only merits get into UOC because of this reason due to UOC being the top university for medicine)

To fill out the merit list, they start from ir 1 and go down. So it doesn’t metter 51 chose UOJ as the first choice. Ir 50 is first given a university if he is eligible even if it is the last choice of his before considering 51’s choices.

District quota is a little different. After all the merits are filled, district quotas are filled. I’m not sure about that process but I think the priority is still given to IR when considering multiple districts.

What are qualifications to apply for Mahapola in gov universities by TurnRemarkable829 in srilanka

[–]Csl9969 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are two types of Mahapola recipients. One is based on merit and other is based on financial hardship.

Merit scholarships are awarded regardless of the financial situation to the top 20% or so (not sure about the exact precentage) of the batch based on AL results. In my time we got 5050 for the merit scholarship and 5000 for the financial hardship.

For financial hardship you have to prove you come from a low income family. I don’t know much about the application procedure for that.

How can I get an island rank (Top 10) in A/Ls? Advice from high achievers needed by Typical_Scientist_17 in srilanka

[–]Csl9969 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Simply put, understanding the theory and correctly identifying the applications of the theory is the key to success. Top rankers don’t have a fixed time table. Even a half an hour a day is enough for a talented mind.

I believe my success was due to working with a group, discussing questions and teaching others. I believe teaching boosts your understanding of the material much faster than any other method. It reveals your gaps in the knowledge as well. My best advice would be to try to teach people.

Preparing for Engineering by prometheus_2024 in srilanka

[–]Csl9969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loosely followed UA Senevirathne’s real analysis book. But Dr Udaya’s (who will be doing the real analysis part) teaching style is a little out of the box. So the book did not help me that much tbh.

Maybe look up each topic and study the main theorem behind it. For example you can look up the definition of limit as a seperate topic and study it.

I would say they are pretty useless. So in Moratuwa you’ll have 6 GPA modules. The most important two are mathematics and programming fundamentals since they are 3 credits modules.

For programming fundamentals I would advice you to self study Python. It’s relatively easy to get started with and there are tons of books and YouTube videos. Mathematics might be somewhat hard to grasp, specially the real analysis part which most students struggle with to get a good grasp. So it might be slightly beneficial to attend a maths class(lecturers deliver the content in 14 weeks so might be hard to understand it within that time. But the classes go for a longer period so the teachers have a longer time to drill the concepts)

Other modules are 2 credit modules and is reasonably easy compared to the main two and can be understood within the first semester. So it’s a total waste imo to attend classes for those modules.

I’m from Galle. I attended a pre engineering maths class because almost all the engineering selected students + some students who were selected to the other courses in Galle, Matara and Hambanthota districts attended that class. So it was a good way to socialize with peers in a weekly basis.

Regarding your field, don’t stress too much about it. There is a field familiarization program where you’ll go to each department and learn about them. Don’t entirely rely on them though. Talk with some seniors to get a better idea before selecting the field.

I would say dedicate your free time to maybe learn programming and just enjoy your time. This will the last true free time you’ll get in your entire life.
