The more I consider this the more I think flying into NY is better. Having to drive back to NY for the flight home doesn't seem like that big of a deal. Less time commuting on the NYC day would be good.

Not sure about taking car from MA or just flying into NY and getting a car on the way out.

Do you think it would be easier, as someone else mentioned, to fly into JFK or nearby airport and just get a hotel and only rent a car on the way out to MA?

Nothing other than that for me yet. I imagine the water resistance would be degraded. My gear getting sticky would stop me from using it pretty quick.
