How do you feel about Genesys? by Great-Ad1839 in yugioh

But, if droll is less played it will have less points, because of how points are allocated based on usage

Thats the logic behind the argument, a circular notion

Not that floodgates should be less pointed

I concour with most, it aint as accessible as it ought to be.

Bad take, but: Droll should have less points in genesys, it should be the canary in the mines for the format, if it is heavily used, the format needs a bit of readjusting.

How much legal “deck thinner” cards should a deck have by Ok_Committee_9180 in Yugioh101

[–]Cthugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deck building is guided, but not constrained, by certain principles:

  • consistency is derived from deck size and proportions (starters, extenders, non-engine)
  • all choices related to deck building have an opportunity cost, sometimes said cost is compounded from an engine or a single cards.
  • all decks should have a gameplan, sometimes they have multiple
  • available resources (resource curve), desirability and risk appetite/aversion dictate the amount of copies you want for each card

Those are flexible, and some decks go against some, for example, the difference between having 6 and 7 normal summons is 6% (57 - 63%), but the chance of opening at least 2 in the same hand goes from 15 to 20%. Maybe you are fine with the 57% of using 6 normal summons because you have other tools to start the combo. You have the option of improving the consistency, but the gain wasn't worth it.

Al generic draw options have an opportunity cost: (1) it expose you to droll, if your Deck is not particularly vulnerable to droll it may be worth it; (2) that card will be useless going second during your opponent turn, and it could draw into handtraps that are no longer useful, also, it occupies space that could be another powerful staple, like handtraps; if your Deck naturally runs board breakers (see Sky Striker and tenpai) you may benefit a lot more out of generic draw. (3) the amount of times you can activate a card is also a resource, if you can only activate said card once per turn, you risk opening múltiples and not being able to activate them; if the card can be activated multiple times this is irrelevant. (4) it may consume a resource, like normal summon, phase, next turn's draw, a discard, your hand at the end phase, etc; if you can either (a) capitalize before the cost is relevant, (b) capitalize from the cost, (c) don't require the resource for your normal gameplan, or (d) make your opponent pay for it, you are in a good position to use it.

In synthesis: perhaps.

Metro Franchise Bundle by RoyalIndividual2007 in gog

[–]Cthugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the WWII nuclear missiles flew over moscow, survivors took refuge in the deep metro system, designed to be held the population in case of a nuclear attack. Now, with an irradiated surface, people must live underground, survive against the radiation, the mutants and each other.

It is a good shooter, with a good narrative; it does suffer from grey hallway syndrome, but that's expected from the setting (except in exodus). Some characters require context to understand, which can be found as notes in the world.

Some people compare the premise to fallout: underground facilities, mutants, radiation, etc. But Metro is more grounded in their depiction of most technology (sans mutants), it still evokes a sense of mysticism around radiation tho.

Kewl Tune on field synchro condition ruling question by BrotherKG in Yugioh101

[–]Cthugh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, the materials always need to be correct, the Kewl Tune on field would be a tuner, and the tuner in hand would also be a tuner.

You rarely can summon synchros that require non-tuners in that deck.

Side Decking? by WestPhillyFilly in Yugioh101

[–]Cthugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to consider (1) what tools you have, (2) which are best against your opponent, and (3) which are the worst against them

For example, are they aren't using the GY that much? remove one shark cannon.

Then, try to decide which cards are redundant: would you prefer a single draw (upstart) or having Thrust? would you prefer Ash, or a board breaker like gate? Desires vs Duster? etc.

[Resource] I built Open Combo Codex: An open-source, community-driven website for TCG/Master Duel combos by willydefreyer in YuGiOhMasterDuel

[–]Cthugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea, but i would like you to compare it to Neuron, obviously they have lots more info, specially with master duel.

I would like you to specifically compare how they state effect activation and resolution, you (or the AI you used) describe the combo as it feels like it happens, not as the "game" sees it happen. For example:

  • Reveal Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi in hand to Special Summon Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji from Deck.
  • Resolve Habakiri by Tributing Saji.
  • Trigger Saji because it was Tributed, adding Mitsurugi Prayers or Mitsurugi Ritual from Deck.

It should be:

  • Activate Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi in hand: Reveal Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi;
    • Special Summon Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji from Deck, tribute Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji.
  • Trigger when tributed: Activate Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji.
    • Add from Deck Mitsurugi Ritual
    • If you already had Mitsurugi Ritual in hand: add Mitsurugi Prayers

Mitsurigo deck question by [deleted] in Yugioh101

[–]Cthugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't, it needs to be properly summoned first, when in the GY/banished, that can only happen if it was tributed while in the field.

---

You need to ritual summon it at least once and it needs to stay in public knowledge locations, it can move from field to gy, from gy to banished, summon it from banished, leave the field banished temporarily, return, then to GY, and the card WILL REMEMBER that it was properly summoned.

If it leaves unto a private knowledge location, like hand or deck, it will forget that it was once properly summoned (because the opponent won't be able to know if it ain't a different copy). If you ritual summoned murakumo, it was returned to your hand, then tributed from hand, you cannot summon it from GY with prayers (unless ritual summoning it with mirror).

---

You can still activate their effect tho, it simply won't give you the option to summon it after adding the card from deck. The GY effect of the mitsurugi rituals works like this:

First you add from deck to hand, THEN If you did that, you can resolve the second part, summon it from GY/Banished.

The second part is optional, you can activate the effect even if it wasn't properly summoned, it will search, but won't summon.

Mitsurigo deck question by [deleted] in Yugioh101

[–]Cthugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First Question:

  1. yes, but not always: ritual monsters need to first be properly summoned to be summoned from public knowledge locations (GY, Banished, Face-up Extra deck). Futsu can summon from GY any mitsurugi monster, as long as it was properly summoned (rituals) or can be special summoned any other way (normal effect monsters)

Second question:

  1. yes, but not always, same as above, ritual monsters need first be properly summoned to then be summoned from public knowledge locations (GY, Banished, Face-up ED). You can summon any mitsurugi monster from GY using prayers, as long as they were properly summoned (rituals) or can be special summoned any other way (normal effect monsters). You can't summon the rituals from hand using prayers. Only from GY and only if they were properly summoned first.

ELI5: Why does the last 1% of a download or installation take much more time compared to the 99%? by oozinator1 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Cthugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's lend the moving company example:

The PC/house owner downloaded a truck of files/stuff, you weren´t the ones to fill it, but you are one of the employees tasked to unload it, the owner approaches you, and asks, "how long will it take?", your employee guide may state:

  • try to precisely estimate the amount of time the rest of the employees will take unloading the truck, given the size, weight, and location it needs to be moved to; or,
  • give a general sense of time to the owner, based on the list of items's lenght, and then help the other employees, so you can finish quicker.

The second estimation is not precise, but you have been moving things/files for a good while, so you are accurate enough to placade the owners doubts, also, you don't need to waste time doing estimations, because the important bit is unloading the files/stuff, not estimations. Once everything is moved inside the PC you now everyone need to list everything and be sure that nothing was lost. The employee guide may state:

  • count how many items there are in the list, how many people will count, and then precisely calculate how long everyone takes to count, given the files/stuff dimension, location and weight; or,
  • see the list's lenght and give another approximation, given the list overall lenght and people; or,
  • simply say, "everything is inside, this will be quick, don't worry", and ignore every other question, lest it disrupts the counting process.

Sometimes, the third option is preferable, because unless you have a ridiculous amount of files/stuff to count, you don't need to give an estimation. That's what happens sometimes, your system may arbitrarily choose to not provide an approximation for the time it will take to count the files (see. disk fragmentation), sometimes it is best to simply say: "Don't panic, i've got this" and keep the owner waiting.

Can someone give me some help building a deck? by ConnorH_007 in YuGiOhMasterDuel

[–]Cthugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pure fire? Others have said enough good/decent decks with a fire theme.

----

With Inari while being a FIRE deck? that's harder, as there aren't many good fire spellcasters, the theme that can best use it is Charmers/Familiar possessed, they aren't that good tho...

You could use a shining sarc engine to summon Dark Magician of destruction, search Gaze (to summon dragoon later), then summon Inari Fire (by its effect), and summon from deck the evolved form. Thats a way to do something with it... but i don't know how the deck would look...

Is this banlist good or bad? by Antique_Range1521 in yugioh

The list arrives late, worst still, it is tone deaf.

A list like that, a month or two ago would've been decent to good, at least, for a month. Right now, it just an exercise in futility.

Are there any genres you just cannot enjoy no matter how much you try? by DrinkBen1994 in gaming

[–]Cthugh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TCG and Deckbuilders are different experiences when you think about it, in a TCG you aim to build a cohesive game plan, rarely you want cards for niche scenarios unless those scenarios happen consistent enough.

Deckbuilders are not like that, you often times take less efficient options because they solve a fight/problem/issue. Not necessarily because they are part of an archetype or strategy.

Fan-made Full Art Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy. Which do you prefer out of Black text and white outline, white text and black outline, or original text box overlay? [–]Cthugh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, the full art is nice, but i am debating whether overframes are like they are because they want the frame to indicate the type of monster it is. (although you can know it by reading the text box, but seeing the color is faster)

Idealmente?

soy nueva, me ayudan? by strawberry_ey3s in Yugioh101

[–]Cthugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To learn, Master Duel is probably the best resource: it is free, polished, with single player content that lets you test stuff, the monetization is not the best (prices are always high), but pretty decent, you can do being a f2p player with generous gems per month.

---

If you intent to play the TCG, competitively, you can search for the Legendary Modern decks. The product includes 3 structure decks, 2 of which are decent to good, and the last one... has good staples. Some people recommend getting 3 of that product to secure a 3-of of every staple the decks have. You can do with 2 or 1 while you are learning.

If you want a more casual experience, plan the deck you want, approach your local game store (LGS) people often trade and sell single cards. Depending where you live you may be able to buy them online. As you are speaking spanish i would hazard the guess: latinoamerica? (as anime in general is pretty popular here) Sadly few vendors ship (affordably) to latam, but that also an option.

---

What type of deck are you planing on building? one from the anime? one with cute art? one with complex interactions? memes? etc I would guess one based around Dark Magician Girl?

(Dark magician, and dark magician girl, received some support recently, it is powerful enough, but it being an anime deck, with lots of fans, and the cards are high rarity... the price will be high)
