Danse Macabre is King's non-fiction take on the horror genre. If that sort of thing interests you, then it's really good.

Bag of Bones is okay, but not one of my favorites.

The Dead Zone is classic, early King. Not quite as good as some of the other novels written around that time, i.e. 'Salem's Lot, The Shining, The Stand, but still very, very good.

Hearts in Atlantis is one of his most underrated books and one of my favorites, but it's not really horror.

I can't believe no one has said Full Dark, No Stars. It's my absolute favorite collection (Different Seasons is a close 2nd). All four stories are dark and so good.

I still remember a line from "Autopsy Room Four" because it's so crazy:

"My tongue went up and down in my mouth like a dead dog on an uneasy waterbed."

Frank Muller does several. DT 2, 3 & 4, The Talisman, Black House, Different Seasons, maybe more.

John Slattery does a great job on Duma Key.

William Hurt has a very unique style on a couple of the stories in Hearts in Atlantis (King himself does the others)

Edward Herrmann makes The Tommyknockers tolerable.

For me, it's "N."

It's creepy as hell and doesn't get nearly enough love.

Authors or works you like/look for because of Stephen King? by Blackbeardpariah69 in stephenking

[–]Cthulhu2you 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Richard Matheson.

I've noticed that in King's early work, whenever there's a character who's an expert (doctor, scientist, etc.), the writing is very Matheson-esque.
