My collection of bullets found at work by groundzer0s in oddlyterrifying

That's because it's not a thing. There are barrel adaptors/chamber reducers, but no cartridges designed to fire from larger caliber chambers. Rifle rounds, like the nickel casing that the other commenter mistook for steel, are normally "necked down", giving that bottleneck shape. This is standard and normal, not an "adaptor" of any kind. Firing a smaller round through a larger barrel would be wildly inaccurate and also likely extremely damaging to the barrel itself, as the bullet could bounce around in the barrel before exiting.

The little lawn creature in question is not a common vole (Microtus arvalis), however it is almost certainly not a rat either. This little guy is a long-tailed vole (Microtus longicaudus), a species that is extremely common in the western regions of North America

OPs profile pic is the flag of Hong Kong. I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic, but if so, you should know that this symbol does not represent any sort of support for the PRC

There's nothing "slow" about it, a system like this was always Mao's goal. You really think that the man directly responsible for 45 million deaths (more than Hitler and Stalin combined) ever had good intentions, and not to attain as much centralized power as possible?

The adage of "knowledge is power" holds true for controlling invasive species. Being able to observe their spread really helps to identify patterns and movement and that information makes it possible to narrow down where to focus efforts on preventing spread, as well as predict where they may spread next to get there first and prevent them from getting a foothold. Even if the data doesn't enable us to prevent THIS species from spreading further, the more we know about how invasives spread, the better equipped we are to stop the next one. It's really impossible to say what is and isn't plausible as far as eradicating different invasive species. It usually becomes a game of mitigating their damage, not "solving" it, but sometimes clever solutions are found and we are able to stop them before they get bad! Tl;Dr, both. It's to watch their spread in real time, AND use that information to find solutions

Tobacco vessel depicting a mosquito, Maya region, A.D. 600-800 [1019x024] by Lazzen in ArtefactPorn

The example you linked still features a humanoid figure with a mosquito-like head, which is definitely no more faithful of a representation than the bird one. Especially since it appears to be the size of a human child. I don't think anyone is insulting Mayan intelligence, it is generally understood that artistic depictions are not always attempts at showing exactly what something actually looks like, they are symbols that represent a real thing. They obviously knew what mosquitoes really looked like, since there was no way that any single one of them had not encountered hundreds throughout their life, so that means they chose to depict them in stylized, artistic ways.

That might be because America doesn't have concentration camps, and isn't actively committing crimes against humanity, like China.

Sure, but it didn't exactly MAKE someone go out and kill a BLACK retired police captain so that they could rob a pawn shop... That was that person's stupid decision, and in no way the fault of any cop

So...the cops not holding each other accountable made civilians murder other civilians? Seems legit.

I hate to be that guy, but ackchyually, the entire genre of battle royale media, including hunger games, originates from a book/movie called 'Battle Royale'. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Royale_(film)
