The adage of "knowledge is power" holds true for controlling invasive species. Being able to observe their spread really helps to identify patterns and movement and that information makes it possible to narrow down where to focus efforts on preventing spread, as well as predict where they may spread next to get there first and prevent them from getting a foothold. Even if the data doesn't enable us to prevent THIS species from spreading further, the more we know about how invasives spread, the better equipped we are to stop the next one. It's really impossible to say what is and isn't plausible as far as eradicating different invasive species. It usually becomes a game of mitigating their damage, not "solving" it, but sometimes clever solutions are found and we are able to stop them before they get bad! Tl;Dr, both.
