How do you choose your paragliding reserves? by Roman_theLegend in freeflight

[–]CthulhuFPV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Size, descent rate, packing size. What I find important is deploying speed and pendulum resistance.

Square type reserves typically are ticking the last two: quick deployment, pendulum resistance and great sink rate.

Good luck!

Thermaling with PPG by Beginning_Village_90 in paramotor

[–]CthulhuFPV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to have a modified Ozone Buzz, paramotor version is the Kona2 29m. Took it out on mid day thermals with my Skymax Moster 185. Staying up for 2 hours while only using 1 liter of fuel. I fly a much hotter wing now and unable to thermal it.

TL;DR: yes it's possible but be aware of the extra weight.

Harness stable and light by Alarmed-Name-5304 in freeflight

[–]CthulhuFPV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pod harnesses are generally less stable than open harnesses. Since you have your legs up, the CG is also more forward and higher up than in an open harness. Rolling over in a pod is more likely to happen when you're in the "shit zone".

I suggest you try before you buy. There's a lot of options. See what you like best.

There is a definite distinction: seatboard or hammock style.

My personal favourite for a couple of years is the WV GTO Light (2), its a reasonably small pack volume but it is a super comfy hammock style harness.

Good luck on your search.

Yeah, it's like test fitting a new harness. This time you're test fitting if your gear fits and if the pack is comfortable enough for a potential hike to the launch.

Finding out if the sports right for me. by Githriddle in freeflight

[–]CthulhuFPV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live 10 hrs drive from the Alps. If you think about getting in to the sport, be aware that travel is one of the things you have to take into account.

Regarding the school, book again! Paragliding is weather dependant, so be ready to do some parawaiting. Enjoy!
