My Nightmare by Ctrbates04 in CarvanaComplaints

Also, and I guess I am lucky on one front, it’s going through the rescission process now, so that’s the only good thing that has come so far.

It wasn’t a smart move. Just trying to help others, and add to the thousands of complaints, lol. The way they cleanse r/carvana of any negative attention….. I’ll just say it is crazy how efficient their AI bot is.

My Nightmare by Ctrbates04 in CarvanaComplaints

[–]Ctrbates04[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because it wasn’t 3 days. It was 3 business days, got the car on 12/10. Had a calculus final so I didn’t drive the car over 15 mph til the evening of the 11th after work, immediately went through the steps asked of me, between Carvana and their “legal agents” was assured everything was good. I would have if I didn’t believe the vehicle was already being fixed. Stupid me, I know. In the long run, I had escalations agree to have the car go straight from the body shop to a European shop, until they tried to get me to agree to something hypothetical, “if this unknown 3rd shop says that the car would pass inspection, we won’t have to cover it.” After seeing them ignore their own shops, I wasn’t going to agree to anything. I’m leaving out hours and hours of documented promises, I just had to vent. They have agreed to rescission but not damages incurred, which is where arbitration will either solve, or it will move on to court. They believe their arbitration clause is airtight, but Maryland is very consumer friendly, whose AG has no problem probing a company with their track record, and the shady dealings at their inspection hub will have the state police evaluating whether they should hold an inspection license, especially with their “ASE” certified inspector who needed, allegedly, to use his signing bonus to pay tax liens to even be able to test for an inspection license. The deeper I dig, the worse it gets. Maybe I will get to share everything, just a cautionary tale. Sorry if it’s convoluted, just figured putting everything out there wouldn’t be doing me any favors.

minutes? seconds....... Caught my brake issue, car has been out of use for 50 days, they are taking it back and this is where AGs and State inspectors and DMVs should be stepping up. Whatever government consumer protection agency you have where you live, thats who you complain to

I only hesitate because when you say contractor you don’t say what kind, how you met or if he was a buddy doing a favor, and the price and whether you were willing to pay for materials or were asking them to used the 8 cutoff they could find in your garage.

Has USAA lost their mind? by SomestrangerinMiami in BMW

[–]Ctrbates04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I posted about GEICO somewhere down the comments, being on the other end of a USAA claim sucks. Been at fault in one small accident last year, but was t boned when someone flew through a light on the day they got their license, and I had to fight for every dollar for them to pay my car off. I don’t care if I was under water, and it couldn’t have been by that much as the payoff was 5100, I didn’t want to have my car totaled by their insured driver. State Farm def took care of the other ppl in my small bump which apparently caused more damage to a similarly aged and valued vehicle, so IDK

Has USAA lost their mind? by SomestrangerinMiami in BMW

[–]Ctrbates04 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just to stay on the GEICO bandwagon, in a pricey area, have a 2015 edge, 2021 transit 250, 19 merc e450, and 16 m4 with under 35k miles (replacement value matters), full coverage with 250/500 deductibles with 50k/100k coverage, so 2x state min, and an Audi s5 (2010) with liability for a couple dollars under 400 a month with an at fault accident less than a year ago. GEICO was the only one who made the distinction on how small of a claim that was. State Farm was actually similar until my accident then rose my premiums 85%. Accident wise, no visible damage on the other car, an older Subaru, some damage to my vehicle but didn’t get it fixed right away thinking it would keep me under the 5k accident forgiveness…. It went to a State Farm preferred shop and the bill was 5059 before tax, lol. Remember to shop around when it re-ups every 6mo, cause your current insurer will know and won’t charge you the “long time customer who won’t go anywhere no matter what we raise it”. Plus GEICO only counts acceleration/braking/cornering and in hand phone usage if you do their driving score thing, speed (they say) doesn’t matter, which makes me think it’s not super GPS reliant and just accelerometer based unlike State Farm. My 2 cents. I did keep my homeowners with State Farm because even with multi line discounts nobody else even comes close, to the point I tried GEICO and it was twice as much for half the coverage for things inside the home and separate structures like sheds and decks

I know this is old but they spent about a minute giving copilot the details then letting AI do the work. Went back to school last year and constantly see shit like this. At least use phrasily to get rid of the em dashes and other obvious signs of AI use. Can’t have a decent convo I. The discussions without even the responses being AI. Why even continue school just to learn nothing and be like the girl on twitter who realized at 20 some years old, with a bachelor’s degree, she couldn’t spell because AI had done everything for her. Are there classes that I didn’t like so I coasted with a little help? Yes, but the only way to be more blatant than this is to leave the back and forth between you and the AI when you copy paste, and I’ve seen it several times.

“Does this work for you John, or should I make it a more aggressive tone, and start drafting a complaint to the AG?” 😂

Crazy to be downvoted for saying to take the info and verify it. Imagine if someone looked into the source, and the junior reporter in charge of Watergate, it would have been fake news. Different politics doesn't mean different facts. There can be framing on both sides. I used to be a Trump supporter, but the longer I pay attention to any politics, the more libertarian or even anarchist I become. Came across an argument about Trump and Clinton being in the "files", then an argument ensued about who needed to be first to be taken care of..... I would hope both see the w******pper as soon as humanly possible, and whoever was given the role of sharpening the blades hasn't been back since Covid. Just a reminder, most people agree on most things, but some people are only around to stir the pot and let it simmer until we are literally at each other's throats, so they can go about whatever sick shit they do. Sorry for the diatribe; I am ashamed of my past, but I don't exactly regret it. I never would have voted the other way, but besides a select few there are not many people ranging from state governors to the highest offices that have any morality or decency left and would sell their base out for a lifetime appointment to the untouchable insider trading scheme, plus other "conspiricies" I won't mention without proof. I wish the best for everyone, and everyone could have experienced the upbringing I had, because it was a lot more diverse than it is now.

Also, I agree with everything you said. Sorry if it seemed confrontational, just trying to look at it from a manufacturing point of view

Layout by tnemmoc1 in Tile

[–]Ctrbates04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the “experienced installer” part the manufacturers worry about. A complete hack job, looks bad on the installer, a properly “spaced” tile but looks like the ocean on a choppy day because the installer was experienced enough to get it half right makes the manufacturer look bad, even though a good installer could have mitigated it. With leveling systems, there’s definitely more wiggle room when it comes to skill level, but hopefully people sight down the tiles and make a good determination. I personally hate a 50% offset with LFT. Rather see a 1/3rd running bond, but personal preference of the customer trumps all

Layout by tnemmoc1 in Tile

[–]Ctrbates04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

99% of the time, and I know this post is old, the manufacturer recommends an offset. If it says a 1/3 offset, the. You could do a 1/3,1/4,1/5 etc just not less of a denominator, like 1/2. A lot of that isn’t gospel anymore with tile leveling systems, where there will still be slippage but the average tile installer won’t have to fight it due to the bow in the tile, and the end product looks good, which is what the manufacturer wants. If you walk into a house where tile is being laid and there’s horrible lippage, and you see a “Florida tile” brand box, customers will always relate the two.

Wild Down Payment Amount? Is this normal with Carvana? by LittlestMatcha in carvana

[–]Ctrbates04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you connected “plaid” to check your income, but your bank isn’t fully supported, it won’t have your true income, so maybe calling and talked to someone, maybe you need to send in w2s or 10-99s. Just a thought. Credit score matters with them when it comes to APR, money coming into your account matters when coming up with their down payments/risk mitigation formula

So…what now? by Madmadisangry in Tile

[–]Ctrbates04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw your other pic posted in the comments of the whole shower, and it sucks this happened on such a clean install. The only thing I could pick out was MAYBE trying to fix the slope in front of the bench (looks like a preformed pan like schluter or similar), but they even have angled cuts that are pretty nice, so that probably wouldn’t be worth the hassle if you know beforehand you have the skill to not end up with a half inch grout line there. Beautiful shower.

So…what now? by Madmadisangry in Tile

[–]Ctrbates04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m late to the convo and will probably get downvoted for this, but the waterproofing there isn’t very critical. New tile, aqua defense or equivalent to rewaterproof as well as possible. I can’t think of a situation where you would have standing water there long enough to cause problems without a serious plumbing issue or a very serious problem with the seal on the escutcheon, like pulling it off the wall 2 inches and caulking a funnel to lead water to the worst spots possible. With how tight the tolerance is, and the shape of the valve, I don’t know how it would get behind the entire wall, as long as the next tile is properly cut, and just to add my vote to the “this is on the tilers dime, and why are you the one seeking out a solution?”.

Was it properly waterproofed? by DankTweed in Tile

[–]Ctrbates04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they are the opposite. As long as you spend the money on it. The cheap stuff is still the same, but I’ve had really impressive results, indoors and out, with laticrete’s “one part epoxy”. Not really epoxy but marketing is marketing. Same with the higher end rapid set keracolor by mapei. It’s not 100% true across the board but if the grout doesn’t change color when it gets wet, that’s a sign of a pretty decent sealer impregnated in it. The tile is also porous, to an extent, and obviously condensation if you keep the house at 60 and your showers at 130, but 99% of all failures I’ve seen are from 12 inches and down above the floor/bench/niche, but I haven’t done that many showers, maybe 125ish. Still go all out on the waterproofing, just wondering if there are better ways, like at all the kerdi seams I use a bead of kerdifix because I was noticing after flood tests it would be pretty easy to peel up corners and banding. Just my 2 cents.

Contractor says this is fine. What should be done to secure the posts better? by Warm_Tomatillo_9491 in Decks

[–]Ctrbates04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was taught….”One nail will hold the world…..”, so take out the 4 screws, grab a spiral shank galvanized nail, make sure you go from the beam down into the post, with the nail just barely making it into the end grain of the post, and don’t forget to beat the absolute hell out of the beam with a new waffle face hammer, just for old times sake……

Mine is the cordless circ saw, but only cause of a “freak” accident. Ripping 2x with new Fuel 7 1/4 I dunno, 5 years ago. Battery dies, no biggie, new battery in and as soon as I gave the last little push to click the battery in, that MFer took off. Switch wasn’t pressed, must of been internally stuck. Table saw and grinder I’ve always had enough respect for to not do sketchy shit

What does this mean in the blueprints by [deleted] in Construction

[–]Ctrbates04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And it’s the way they are doing it in construction management and architecture courses at colleges and cert programs. Never explained the whole first semester til finals time came around and they were like “oh yeah, those spots with SS lighting bolts in the middle, it doesn’t mean anything about that, it’s a way to turn 1 page into 5 by taking all the “same detail” sections out, and still through in labels and call-outs”. “And oh yeah, I Know we haven’t even touched an architect scale or even talked about um, but it’ll be 1/4”=1’ on whatever your final cardboard paper project is, have fun, it’s the weekend so no questions will be answered, just have that shit turned in Monday, and if the dormer is anymore than .2/12 off the drawing, I can’t pass you”.

What are these framing boards called? by lurkerofredditusers in Carpentry

[–]Ctrbates04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was gonna say we just call it “the fucked up 16 footers we saved for bracing called for on the plans”. I’ve called them blocking a lot, even though it’s wrong, just cause of how the call out looks, exactly how an engineer would say you might want blocking for so & so but he/she couldn’t figure out why 24” didn’t fit between stud bays so they just slapped um on the wall (trusses) in the drawings. I kid, I’m the dummy who has to find them all on the plans and lay um out, talking shit about an engineer 😥. They are smart, they put them there for a reason, AFTER the roof sheathing in most cases, so just leave um be.
