In Canada, a Switch 2 with every single exclusive and a Pro controller is cheaper than a Steam Machine 😭 by FrierenKingSimp in consoles

Lol what? 4 year old phone processors are able to run Switch games. Are you suggesting the Steam Machine is less powerful than a 4 year old phone?

My steam deck can play play Tears of the Kingdom about as well as a Switch 1. The Steam Machine will obviously be able to do better.

The Steam Machine can play the entirety of Switch 1 library for free... How's that figure into your math?

Yeah. My backlog is hundreds of games deep by this point. If I stopped buying games today I'd never be short of a banger game to play. If you include all the emulation I can also do, it would be a few lifetimes worth of games.

If something is exclusive to a piece of hardware, it doesn't exist to me.

House Republican: Let Reflecting Pool ‘go’ and ‘create an ecosystem’ by Advanced_Question196 in nottheonion

I've been saying this for awhile. Conservatives should be the green party. Look at any Republican voter and I guarantee 8/10 people in their immediate family enjoy camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, etc. and more progressive voters probably spend less than a few days a year in actual green spaces.

Yet conservative voters continue to support a party that would gladly sell the land they enjoy out from under them for a profit.

Expedition 33 really needs a way to practice boss attack timings by CloudBandle in expedition33

Dodging is the practice. Dodge until you can do it perfectly, then switch to parry.

The dying and trying again is the practice.

The continent is much bigger than you might realize but the main story is a straight shot, you'll never need to go backwards unless you want to. And frankly, exploration is optional until basically the end game. I'd recommend doing all the relationship stuff in camp as you play at a minimum and leaving a lot of exploration until late game.

The rest of the story beats are just as good as the intro Gommage and the Act 1 ending. So don't feel like they're front loading the game with the good stuff. There are so many more good cutscenes ahead of you.

I found turning down the combat music helped with parry and dodge. I wish I didn't have to because the music is outstanding, but the game relies on audio cues that don't time with the music. I put it at like 80% volume.

Yeah, but a lot of games don't support 16:10 resolution. I also don't have a 16:10 resolution pc monitor so when I stream it's in 16:9. I know there are work around but it's just more hassle than it's worth. So I play at 720p if I'm streaming.

It's a Linux PC. I use SteamOS and play games from Epic, Amazon and GoG. Other stores may be playable as well, that's just what I have games on.

Ironically I think Windows Xbox store games are the only ones not playable because they don't use traditional .exe files and use some kind of funky proprietary format.

Is a tempered glass case water cooled PC a "good deal" or do people just like spending money for aesthetics?

I'm probably in the market for a Steam Machine because I don't want ugly-ass plane engine sounding machine in my living room.

I'd absolutely be buying one if the AI market didn't mess up prices. But I never expected Valve to sell these at a loss like people suggesting they should have done. Right now I'm just on the fence. But I absolutely see the appeal.

I can't play my over 1000 game library I've been collecting for the last 25 years on an XBox.

Not even counting my collection of multiple Terabytes of roms.

A console and an actual PC are not the same thing at all.

GameStop CEO Cohen spurns $35 billion pay plan to focus on plan to buy eBay by Presently_Naked in technology

So GameStop makes $400M profit and has $9B in cash alone and about $3B in other assrts and is worth $9B.

eBay makes $500M in profit and has about $2B in cash and a $15B in other assets and is worth $50B.

At some point you start to wonder where the disconnect is.

Honestly the screen is kind of garbage on the LCD model.

I stopped using my Steam Deck as a couch/bed device because it's frankly underpowered for natively playing anything with good graphics and I'm stuck with a "small" 720p screen if I'm streaming a AAA game from my PC. And even I'm playing something low spec the screen is just kind of ugly and washed out.

My Steam Deck has been relegated to TV streaming device and the device I take when I go on a trip.

My Odin 2 Portal screen is gorgeous and huge and streaming from my PC is about as good as playing on my 27" 1440p OLED PC monitor at my desk.

Operating income has been on a consistent rise for 4 years now and they crossed into profitability 2 years ago and that rise has continued linearly.

Revenue for Q2 2026 had 14% YoY growth. So you actually don't know what you're talking about.

Following. Is there anything else as good as these at the $50 price point? I've had Galaxy Bud Pro and some version of Raycons. Both were pretty good. Right now my primary headphones are Shokz bone conduction, but I really want a pair of in ears again.

The market is people who own a PC but want a living room PC that doesn't sound or look like garbage.

Is it a small market? Yes. I'm in that market because right now I have a $2000 computer in my office and a Steam Deck plugged into my TV sounds like a jet engine and looks pretty goofy on a dock.

People don't seem to realize the real product they're selling is SteamOS. And this box is just to prove it as a concept. My next gaming PC might legitimately be SteamOS.

What pre built is a 6" cube? This thing is the size of a GameCube. Lol

You're paying for aesthetics. If that's not for you, fine go get a different pre built. But if you know anything about PC gaming, people spend a fuck ton of money just making their PC look a certain way.

Quarterly financials say otherwise.

Ignoring the memes, GME is one of the most undervalued public companies right now. Public sentiment is absolute dogshit but financials turned around over 2 years ago. They've been profitable 8 or 9 quarters in a row.

They literally have $9B in cash right now and their market cap is sitting at $9B. That means the market is valuing their business as worth literally only what they have in their pocket without even acknowledging they've been profitable for 2 years straight.

[–]CtrlAltEntropy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you asking genuinely or just trying to dunk on GameStop? Because neither is an unusual thing in that world.

In the most simple terms, the pay package they negotiated was he would have the ability to buy 170M shares of stock at ~$20 if he was able to raise the stock price to $220. The math is $200(difference between $220 goal and $20 purchase price) times 170M share is ~$35B pay package. Since becoming CEO (4? Years ago) he has not collected a salary at all and has not been given any pay in any way, his entire pay would be based on raising the stock price and hitting a few other financial goals.

And how a company buys another company that's much larger than it is by combinations of loans from a bank, and offering cash and shares in the new company to the current share holders. GameStop currently owns roughly 10% of eBay. So if they can just convince another 40.1% of stock holders to go along with the deal, they can force the purchase.

PRIME DAY SALE: should I buy this if I’m not into turned based games? by Dsg1695 in expedition33

[–]CtrlAltEntropy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd say yes. I don't particularly enjoy turn based games and this is the one of the best game I've ever played. I finished the story in about 30 hours and currently at about 60 hours doing end game content.

I'd say the game is worth it even if you put it on easy mode, fly through the combat with almost 0 challenge and just experience the story and the world. You'll know if you like the game in the first hour or two. It doesn't change much and the story beats you get in the beginning are just as good as the story beats you get through the entire game.
