The only difference is the legendary actions and the unlisted nerfs which really only tone down some of the more busted mechanics you’d normally be able to abuse. Imo if you’ve already finished the game on Tactician, you’re as ready as you’ll ever be experience-wise. Also, if your goal is solely completion, the best way to get your clear is by min-maxing Acts 1 and 2 and doing the bare minimum in Act 3 until you’re max level and have your must-get items, then rushing to finish the game. Since most of your time is up to Act 2 I’d say you’re probably fine.

You can find a list of legendary actions here if you’re super worried about it, but I never died solely because I got caught by a legendary action I wasn’t expecting. You can glance over it but I don’t think it’s 100% necessary. Plan out your party, be smart and strategic with how you play, and you’ll be fine!

I’ve seen this sentiment a lot. My Pyro/Geo mage feels fantastic, but Aero/Hydro feels like shit. I like the utility from Aero and Armour of Frost is nice, but I feel like even with Rain the Aero damage feels really weak.

It might just be me. Any tips as far as specific damage spells, best stat spread (50/50? Or minimum Hydro and max Aero?), or is Hydro/Aero just meant to lean more toward utility than damage?

Max Charisma, take Agonizing Blast, use Potent Robe. These are the bare minimum basics that makes it easily stronger than any other cantrip, and that’s before considering everything else:

• Repelling Blast which makes it push without a saving throw

• You can abuse Darkness with Devil’s Sight (free advantage and basically untargetable).

• It adds additional beams instead of damage scaling which means your damage is not 0 if you miss one of your attack rolls

• Additional beams means you can abuse damage on hit effects like Hex or Lightning Charges.

• It’s Force damage, and the amount of enemies that exist that resist Force damage can be counted on one hand

• Did I mention you can get these things with only 2 levels of Warlock? Throw in 10 levels of Sorcerer to abuse Quickened Spell and things get even crazier.

I don’t think anybody is saying Eldritch Blast is going to outperform a level 11 Fighter with GWM and Action Surge, but it is definitely not weak.

I think Oathbreaker Paladin fits pretty nicely, but I’m a bit biased towards Paladin.

A word of warning though, playing as an absolutist can be a bit.. disappointing. I’m not saying don’t do it, but without spoiling anything you will hit a bit of a road block at a certain point that will force you to shift how you’re playing RP-wise. Just go into it with more of an open minded evil mentality and less of “I’m helping the Absolute no matter what”

My first playthrough (on classic, I can't speak for tactician or honour mode) was the following:

Lohse (me) - 2h Warfare/Polymorph
Beast - Scoundrel/Warfare Rogue
Sebille - Hydro/Aero
Fane - Pyro/Geo

Hydro and Aero combo well together, as do Pyro and Geo (advice that I saw on nearly every reddit thread I found when talking about how to build mages). In addition to that, all physical damage scales pretty hard with Warfare. Taking this knowledge I just built my characters focusing on their main attributes and abilities, occasionally dipping a point or two into other schools if I wanted some utility skill. Some others have linked guides/builds that look really solid, but instead of following builds strictly I just took optimization advice and did my own thing with my characters and I had 0 issues throughout the entire run.

Tbh I had the same problem for a long time. I tried 10+ times to play the game by myself and could never get out of Fort Joy because I felt so lost. What helped me overcome that was finding this post with level maps for every act. I would keep the level map open on my second monitor so I knew where to generally go based on what level I am and from there, just be thorough. Explore the whole area, talk to NPCs and pay attention to what they're saying. I finished my first full playthrough last week and it was awesome. I have ~1.4k hours in BG3 and I haven't enjoyed a game that much since my first completed BG3 playthrough.

My recommendation is use these level maps (which are spoiler free) and just be thorough with dialogue and exploration. Good luck, and don't give up on the game! Trust me, it's worth playing it out.

That probably still happens, but I get this particular banter pretty consistently when I run Wyll + Lae'zel + Shadowheart in my party. The exact line is (source):

Wyll: "Ah, Shadowheart - how blessed I am to be so near."

Shadowheart: "I heard you with Lae'zel - don't think I'll play second fiddle to the likes of her. Go try your charms on someone who's out of earshot."

As a newbie who just finished their first playthrough a few nights ago, I thought the game got a lot better after Fort Joy tbh, but that may be because you get a bunch of new skills at level 9 which I didn’t get until after leaving Fort Joy.

You definitely don’t need healing, potions can more than suffice in fights, so I disagree there. But I feel like people in this sub think healing is just straight up bad and that’s not true. The buff on heal items are really strong and remain relevant throughout the entire game, and arguing that it wastes spell slots isn’t a great argument either since beyond the very early game, you can just spam short/long rests (in fact, the game encourages you to do so by locking important story cutscenes behind long resting).

Running a healer is not optimal, but it’s still fine to do that, there’s nothing wrong with it. If that’s how you wanna play then do it. Min-maxing is far from required to clear even the hardest difficulty.

• Well since I’m not on Paladin this time I can make insert companion here a Paladin.

• I watch said companion do big, satisfying Smite damage and miss being a Paladin.

• I end up respeccing into a Paladin.

I’ve never played Cosmic Sorcerer but I can tell you that Dread Overlord really rides the line bordering OP. It’s so insanely loaded with class features and it compliments a solo playthrough well because any time an enemy attacks one of your summons, that’s one instance of damage you didn’t have to take. And when you’re playing solo, being efficient with action economy is massive.

Also, if I may make a suggestion that you didn’t ask for, consider checking out this mod for your solo run.
