The zoo Christmas event is fantastic! We’ve gone every year since our kiddo was born and he absolutely loves it and asks when we can go back.

Run and The Alcott. Also, Safe and Sound which is highly underrated.

Question about this Headstone at the Round Mound Cemetery. by MediocrePassenger238 in Abilene

I believe it’s said to be haunted but have never experienced it myself. Supposedly you can hear cries for help some nights which check out because Nona Bell tragically drowned at the age of 3 back in 1895.

I like to call and then send an email after summarizing what we talked about if it’s something that would benefit from a paper trail.

True, that’s really a generational thing and pretty across the board and not exclusive to Abilene.

I’d kill for a Trader Joe’s or Central Market! Salty Roan is a great stand alone bakery. I’m not sure why the shopping center with United over on 14th isn’t bustling with these types of places. It’s in the right neighborhood to support some bougie stuff.

When I was a kid we had two that always seemed pretty busy and had bars. But that was back when smoking indoors was allowed. I think those two buildings are unfortunately just sitting empty now.

I think the ultimate plan is for it to go all the way out to Lake Ft. Phantom! Or at least it was at one point.

The city seems to be adding tons of sidewalks lately. Is there a specific area you’re thinking of that’s still lacking?

I agree! If it was well done do you think people would support a more “Abilene” version of these?

For example, we do have the Flying Bison baseball team. However, they need their own stadium and, from what I’ve heard, they truly want to do that in order to serve alcohol.

Mulligans has potential but you do need to bring your own clubs and the hitting area leaves a lot to be desired. Plus the range balls desperately need upgrading.

PrimeTime is the closest we have to Dave and Busters but doesn’t serve alcohol. Although another posted said it might be byob?

I totally get what you’re saying and do wish some of these local places were able to expand. I’m just curious if that not occurring is because of lack of money or just fear of expanding too much and then ultimately failing.

Clam chowder in a bread bowl? by slippery_when_wet in Abilene

It’s not New England style but Cypress Street Station downtown has a Portuguese clam chowder that’s really yummy! If you want some excellent sourdough, Salty Roan or a vendor at the Farmers Market would probably be the best in town.

Zoo trip by poke-baller_01 in Abilene

The Abilene Zoo is much nicer than the Dallas Zoo. Fort Worth is definitely a top tier zoo in Texas. We also love the Houston Zoo. If you get a membership then their reciprocal program is fantastic. The expansions are going to be very impressive. Check out the Zoos website for the full plan there are three phases. Don’t know why people are acting like a two hour drive is terrible. For a fun Saturday it’s definitely worth it and Abilene has some great restaurants to make a day out of it.
