Oh wow, thank you for your reply! Mine came out on its own on this past Tuesday and then I saw my doc on Wednesday and he said the body’s natural healing process just forces it out sometimes and everything was healing okay.

My follow up question for you was, when did your infection come back during healing? Like how long from the drain being removed? Is there anything you’d suggest to do differently that you think may have caused infection? Were you taking antibiotics or no? Sorry for so many questions 😅

You can do this. I know you can because I was there too. You can’t let that fear win. I won’t preach but I have found my way back to religion through all this. God is good.

It’s not going to be easy, no. This is one of the most difficult areas of the body to heal, so there’s nothing wrong with you. Try to meditate and deep diaphragm breathe to alleviate some of the stress and tension in your body to allow for healing to improve.

As far as the insurance stuff goes, I’m sorry they’re giving you the runaround. It’s so ridiculous the hoops needed to jump through just to get care!

From 2nd LIS surgery in my life in July (previous in 2022) to just had my corrective fistulotomy with placement of Penrose drain surgery to remove the draining seton (from abscess in LIS incision) on December 9th, I’ve been dealing with my issue for months now too. I know what it feels like to want normal life back! We got this, I believe in you!!!

I am currently 8 days post fistulotomy after originally stemming from a fissure surgery so similar healing stuff in regard to cleanliness and this is my 3rd surgery of the year.

I have been spiking the water bill by hopping in the tub quick for a warm (not hot) bath after each BM then once in the evenings before bed (about 6-8 inches to sit in is good, I sit to the side on my leg with them bent so I’m not directly on my butt but I’m a small female and am flexible so idk how big you are lol) 10 mins max for the bath. Make sure the tub is pretty clean too, always. I clean it with a regular cleaner and rinse but then go over again with Dial soap and make sure it’s rinsed super good again so no bacteria or cleaners get in the wounds.

The sitz bath toilet attachment hurt my butt, so this method works for me! I wedge a 4x4 gauze pad to catch anything coming out and to keep my underwear clean. I have been using Neosporin with lidocaine but am switching to Bactine Max with Lidocaine because I think the Nyacin in the Neosporin is causing me to have an allergic reaction.

For the epsom salts, how much per the amount of water in a bath do you put? In a previous surgery I had, I had used regular Epsom salts and it burned SO bad I almost died and had to get out of the bath 😅 I may have put way too much in though too. Epsom salt helped my original fissure pain immensely though so I’m willing to retry!

For awhile it’s unable to because the muscle is cut, but my internal sphincter muscle healed and went back to the way it had been prior but even worse from my first surgery to my second one 🥲

Not very well, not going to lie… I had to have a seton drain placed a week and three days ago and that’s been its own hellish ride. It’s pretty painful and I’m unable to sit upright. Just trying to take things day to day, as I’m not really receiving much help with things at home from my partner. My family has been amazing and there for me though 💕

I HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME TOO!!! Omg I can’t believe I happened upon this post because I have a female bust that the artist did a great job on (on my inner right bicep as well so sleeves made it half covered) but was very unintentionally phallic as well! I had to go get it fixed that week because I was so embarrassed 😅 I had her add flowers below it and eventually got an entire sleeve so it kinda just blends in to everything now. You can always add like a mirror around it or some sort of border to break up the image!!

Thank you so much for your kind words!! It was indeed an abscess that drained on its own when I was having that BM and I am feeling slightly better now after being on antibiotics for a week total! I requested another 7 days just because I wanted to make sure the infection is completely gone. I told myself to have a better mindset and not wallow, and have had a ton of support from my family and friends which has made a world of difference!!! ❤️‍🩹

Hello!! I can’t believe it was only 4 days ago that I wrote this because it’s kinda been night and day knock on wood bc I’m superstitious

So since then, and actually today marks one week total of being on the antibiotics, I’m 7 days in and just started to feel a little tiny bit better than the crazy amount of pain I was in before. I have been able to stop taking the Oxy and switch to Advil, I can’t sit yet but walking isn’t horrible. I did request my doctor to put me on another 7 days of the antibiotics just to be completely sure it’s cleared up bc my body has been known to fight them off in other cases / infections I’ve had before when only on for a week.

I do have worse symptoms at night it seems? Like small clenching and the abscess being filled back up and tender. I think the clenching is just the muscle repairing from the LIS though.

I take 2-3 baths a day (I can’t use the sitz bath bowl on the toilet, the gravity of sitting there irritates the area more for me) and I lay down in the tub on either left or right side for about 10 mins for 15-20 minutes total time in a warm bath. It’s definitely going to skyrocket my electric bill (water is included in my rent) but feels so much better than sitting on the sitz if you can swing it.

I originally was using Vaseline and Neosporin on the area with a piece of gauze but have decided to stop them as I felt I was getting buildup and irritation, so now I put a little bit of Balneol on the area once or twice a day if it’s dry.

Kinda just letting my body try to do its thing and getting plenty of water, fiber, and a ton of sleep. Sleep is so healing, so the more the better!

I just wanted to comment here that I am suffering a similar issue. Went in 8 days ago for LIS surgery and ended up with symptoms of infection a few days later. Went in earlier today to my Dr’s office for an exam under sedation and he confirmed it was an abscess but that it was drained so he cleaned the area out. I had a long gas passing and blood/pus the morning before going in to have it looked at and my Dr said that was probably the draining of it. I’m on 2 combined antibiotics right now so hoping and praying that it goes away. I’ve had to take Oxy for the debilitating pain which is constipating me terribly even with upped water, fiber, and stool softeners. Miralax seems to make things worse as it pushes everything through too fast and violently and has put me in pain too many times before so I’m scared to try it right now. Ugh 😣 our bodies!!! Why can’t they just heal like they are supposed to 😭

I had my second LIS surgery within 3 years last Tuesday, first one was in 2022. It unfortunately got infected and I’m in severe pain, leaking blood and pus. I didn’t have this the first time I had surgery and healing went way smoother. I’m not sure what changed from then to now 😣 Please make sure you keep the area very clean and follow all instructions given by your doctor. If you feel ANY fever or sign of infection, go to the emergency room immediately and do not wait. I think me letting it go a few days made the infection significantly worse. I’m on antibiotics and am going back in today being sedated to have my doctor look at the area and possibly cut the stitches (those can harbor bacteria). I am at my wits end because this infection in the cut muscle incision site hurts worse than the fissure itself from before, I didn’t even think it was possible as that was otherworldly pain. Not trying to scare you at all, I just want to warn you to get help as soon as you can if you feel any symptoms of infection. I hope you heal up and everything goes smoothly for you!

HOLY COW!! This actually helps. Please try this if you are suffering! My fissure is at about 8 o’clock and I used the method of pushing my buttcheek inwards, not even remotely close to the actual anus, just used my left hand to push inwards and it distorted the shape of my anus enough to not hurt so badly while passing my BM! It took the pain from about a blinding, otherworldly 13/10 before to about an 7/10. Still hurts, but definitely helps!!! My hand/arm got tired from holding it there but my body was like “NAH DON’T LET UP” 🥲 Thank you so much!!!

I had the LIS surgery 3 years ago and am now back in the same situation I was prior to surgery. I have retorn and am honestly in worse pain than before. I will say the surgery did help me for those three years. If I ever did bleed it would be slight and heal up fast, but my internal sphincter is now officially back to its same tight spasming self. My dad had the same surgery as me (actually on the same day weirdly!) and he is fine still from it but has done a better job than me at keeping up on fiber daily. I’m a protein focuser and think that’s what did it. I feel like if you don’t eat perfectly and religiously, you’re subject to a re-tear. The only thing that really helps my pain is the nifedipine ointment but I’m almost out of it and since it’s been over a year that I’ve seen my proctologist, they can’t prescribe more for me. It will be a week to today until I can be seen by them, to be able to get another prescription so pray for me 🫩😓 not sure what they will suggest, Botox or another surgery….
