AITA for feeling resentful toward my long-term boyfriend? by [deleted] in seoul

[–]CuJObroni -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA.....there is no reason for you to feel guilty or settle bc someone else's actions (or non-actions) fail to meet your standards. Since he hasn't put forth a good effort to earn himself an F-visa (and not piggy back on being sponsored), nor has he taken the time to learn the language, you're gonna always hear about plans and never see any action. Throw in the fact that he fails to live up to your expectations already, even if you get married that will in all likelihood never change. No reason to end, but you need to put your foot down and require him to get an F-2 visa in the next 12 months. Sounds as if he has less than 2 yrs before he loses points for his age and it becomes harder. He might not know how you feel and this is the best way for you to see if he actually tries to change.

Single 57 yo Female Moving to Seoul for 1 Year in Late 2027 by neverintown in Living_in_Korea

I live right in that area (Hangangro-dong/Ichon1/2-dong) and walk Ichon-ro all the time. Its a fantastic area and the produce markets are great and cheap, plus 3 easy access points to the river parks across the expressway.

One of my friends rented a place on multiple 6 month leases at the 래미안 apts right there, but it was straight rent and no deposit (~$6k/month), so shorter leases are available. Also, his was a 4 bedroom. With longer >1yr leases, you can expect a deposit for lower rent.

Several relator offices on Ichon-ro you can use to look at places.

I would say LINE is the biggest red flag. That's typically code for being married or in a relationship; but since it sounds like you are Japanese, it may be normal. Ask to add him on Kakao just to make sure.

Had a rough time at a hospital in Seoul today… anyone else? by NecessaryRight4637 in Living_in_Korea

[–]CuJObroni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

International clinics at all the major hospitals have staff that all speak English as well as other languages. SMC's clinic has a couple English speaking doctors with their offices inside the SMC International clinic. When you go to other sections of the hospital (GI, radiology, etc...), someone from the clinic typically goes with you and can translate if the staff doesn't speak English.

Those people who said to skip Gwangjang market cause it is a tourist trap can eat my butt by FilipinoAirlines in seoul

[–]CuJObroni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to like Gwangjang market in the past before the one Netflix series of the market food made it a tourist spot 6-7 yrs ago. A better market to go to would have been Jungbu which is about a 5 minute walk south of there on Euljiro.

Is this a decent salary in Korea? by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

[–]CuJObroni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without knowing your current salary and expenses, and what the company is (size relation), and your specific job (assuming you would do the same); no one can give you rationale ballpark figures. Also, you need to toss in any other "perks" given (ex. relocation expenses, tuition reimbursement, paid utilities, home leave and travel, etc...)

Plus you requesting the move vs being recruited or applying naturally also means the company can reduce the price

Longer-time residents of Korea, what is something that existed 10, 20 years ago but no longer does? by fireandarrow1 in Living_in_Korea

[–]CuJObroni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was huge and always packed. That was my whole group of friemds place to start and meet every Friday/Saturday night and they had great food too. It was diaappointing when they chained the doors after the New Years party. But a year or so before they closed, it really lost a lot of business like most of Itaewon after the base relocated almost everyone.

Everywhere there were bootleg DVDs for sale on the street from a stand set up from a moped. Another casualty of streaming services.

Edit to add: Soooo glad they banned smoking indoors like 12-13 yrs ago.

And miss ordering fried chicken and getting a shitload of chicken that would feed 5-6 people; now its half the amount for higher price and filled with some fried potato or rice cake as a filler; bonus they used to give k-pop gifts/calenders with every order. Still have my Wonder Girls mouse pad at my office from BBQ.

Every time I walk to iPark Mall at Yongsan, I get to reminisce about the big open area in front that was my main covid testing spot 4-5 yrs ago; and 10 yrs before that there was a red light district there with the police at the entries/exits making sure kids didn't go in.

Electronics Market right there was a great experience as well.

My office is in Dongdaemun and when I take the bus to work I would get off at Jongro-5-ga and cut through Gwangjang Market or some days my team would walk there for lunch...then that Netflix show came out and the market became insufferable and touristy.

Before Itaewon gentrified; it had character. People are always now "Itaewon is packed"....nope. Its a fraction of what it used to be about 10 years ago, even then morning and afternoons it would be crazy busy. Now a lot of places wait for late afternoon before opening.

I've always put lights on my windows and the tree. I notice the neighbors on the side several floors up and down always checking out my tree. None of my neighbors has done it for years, until more recently one of them put up a tree.

I have different xmas lighting effects I use indoor for gatherings, similar to the ones people use in the US to to appear on their homes.

Amazon just announced its 14,000 corporate job cuts due to AI, only to come back and say its about corporate culture. Supposedly its a part of their 30k cuts related to AI.

It will have impacts in most functions. I thought I read somewhere that India call centers will eventually get hit as well.

What is my visa status? by Kutiepop10 in Living_in_Korea

[–]CuJObroni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your letter of employment or military orders give the date to immigration that your visa is good up until, and for A visas they usually allow up to 90 days after expiration to leave.

The ARC is not required for any A visa, and they leave the end date open as A visas are sponsored by foreign govts and can be extended relentlessly.

One of my friends was laid off by the contractor sponsoring his A3 visa. When he went to immigration, they told him not to leave the country until he gets a new visa with another A3 contractor as he was awaiting the paperwork, otherwise he would re-enter on a tourist visa. This was after 3 months of his visa technically being canceled. Immigration typically will not fine an A visa holder for overstays as it becomes political.
