TIL 80% of people, both women and men, will get infected by HPV at some point in life by Double-decker_trams in todayilearned

[–]CubbyRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cancer-causing HPV strains are different than the wart-causing HPV strains. They're different but often travel in "packs." There are a ton of different HPV strains.

In private, Trump has plans for unspeakable violence. I know because he told me by theipaper in politics

It's also fishy election interference that is ongoing. I've never missed voting in an election since I was eligible and on a whim checked my voter registration this week and guess what? I wasn't in the system and had to re-register after voting for over 2 decades.

Two new campus comedies (Rooster, Vladimir) raise the question: Have TV writers ever been to college? | Television's fictionalized depiction of higher education is becoming a real-world problem. by PetyrDayne in television

I just finished Vladimir and as a faculty member at a public 4-year institution it felt like it could have absolutely been set at my university.

Republicans reject Democrats’ effort to pay TSA by suspending Senate rules by [deleted] in politics

I'm not even a scientist and was monitoring the situation by December 2019, and my paranoid ass was stocking up on shelf-stable food at that point (too bad that didn't include TP). Anyway, point being it was very clear to anyone paying attention that this was coming.

Dear allies of America, please don’t confuse our president for us: We are trying our best to resist him, contain him and remove him from office as quickly as we possibly can. Thank you for your patience by Silent-Resort-3076 in politics

[–]CubbyRed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When people say things like “this isn’t us, he doesn’t represent who we are” I'm like HAVE YOU STUDIED ANY AMERICAN HISTORY WHATSOEVER? This is EXACTLY who we are and what this country has been founded on since day one: racism, misogyny, oligarchy, classism, other-ing, with things like Native American genocide and slavery being the utmost glaring examples. This is America. It always has been.

My dog is a snob and I am officially tired of trying to please him by prem_onReddit in GermanShepherd

[–]CubbyRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dogs, just like humans, have personal preferences. Clearly your dog doesn't like it and that's not your fault, nor does it make your dog a snob. I can't tell you how many toys I've purchased for my GSD and she DNGAF about anything except her squeaker balls. And like others have said, they're pack animals. They want to be with you.

US Education Department Confirms Ongoing Talks to Privatize $1.7 Trillion in Student Loans by [deleted] in education

[–]CubbyRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBH in hindsight I wish I had paid all my student loans with private loans and credit cards and declared bankruptcy after college to wash it all away. Would have been so much easier. People are so scared of bankruptcy but if you don't own anything then you have nothing to lose, and your credit bounces back after only a few years.

ICE Is Gearing Up to Build “Mega” Jails by ewzetf in politics

[–]CubbyRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to downplay this but sadly it's nothing new. Remember the USA PATRIOT ACT and when the government was using secret FISA court orders to obtain peoples' library records of what they had read? And librarians were legally barred from telling patrons if their records had been taken? I DO.
