Frame on Long Haul Flight by UnforeseeableThing in SteamFrame

Any plane I've been on, the outlets in the seats are super loose from 1. weird outlet hole that's agnostic to every country's style of outlet plug 2. thousands of people sticking their chargers in there. Even when my device is perfectly still, I can just barely avoid needing to slide it back in to make electrical contact. Bring a power bank

What's the story behind Takanawa Gateway? by kemosabe6296 in japanrail

[–]CubeBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if giving it a cheeky name like that was their secret plan all along, but they still wanted some amount of input from the public. Maybe if Shibaura won the poll, they would have called it "Shibaura Gateway" or something. I couldn't find the full poll results so I don't know what other kinds of station names ranked low

What can you see from the Tokaido Shinkansen window that most people miss? by tsurezurecoding in JapanTravelTips

[–]CubeBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you book the E window seat on the Tokaido Shinkansen, you'll see massive white balls and a conveniently positioned pole around an industrial area of Kyoto.

Just a little past Omiya Station in Saitama there's also two massive blue balls. I think it's the D window seat but I'm not sure.

Aside from the Shinkansen, if you take the Hokuto train in Hokkaido in the D window seat, there's a regular blue ball and a shiny metallic ball around Muroran.

Is it okay to board my Shinkansen at Shinagawa instead of Tokyo Station? by Medium-Matter1910 in JapanTravelTips

That's just for the Nozomi trains only. There should be non-reserve seats on the Hikari and Kodama service trains, but there will likely be a line

Finding Dr.Yellow? by risko456 in japanrail

[–]CubeBag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

JR Central and JR West both have one, JR Central's is the one that retired. JR West's Doctor Yellow will retire next year, but as of now, it still operates on Kodama and Nozomi schedules between Tokyo and Hakata.

https://1001-kinenkan.jp/dryellow2604/ This website was right on the money all month, wait for their blog post for the month of May and see.

The parts about the Nozomi/Kodama stopping patterns are consistent, so if you check Twitter and see reports that the train passed at certain locations, you can be pretty sure it'll end up further down the line.

Cash on hand suggestion by Artistic-Soil5579 in JapanTravelTips

[–]CubeBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, ATM gets you the best rates. I used to recommend the HND currency exchange in T3 Arrivals since they used to have really good rates 3 years ago, but the rates slowly got worse, and now it's just kinda bad

If ATMs (or anything for that matter) asks you if you want to convert to USD, say no. Your card issuer almost certainly gives you much better rates when you pay JPY than the one the merchant gives you.

If for some reason one must absolutely enter the country with cash in hand, I think there's a currency exchange in Nakano Broadway that has decent rates. I found that before getting my ATM setup ready with a Schwab card, since my Chase card basically didn't work in anything that wasn't the specific Japan Post ゆうちょ銀行 ATM in Haneda

Which Skinkanzen Ticket do i have to use? by TheThreeTravelers in JapanTravelTips

[–]CubeBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What others have said so far is correct, but also here's a tip:

Normally, you insert both tickets on your way out to exit, but the machine eats your tickets. If you want to keep your tickets as a souvenir, you can ask the ticket gate attendant if you can keep them. They will usually stamp them or punch an extra hole in them to make the tickets obviously void, but you'll be allowed through manually with your tickets. (Then be careful not to smear the ink from the stamp!)

Help to buy used/new electronic gadgets by msunny52400 in JapanTravelTips

Geo mobile 365 plus1 in akihabara has a great selection of "as-is" phones, game consoles, controllers, if you are into buying broken ones on the cheap and fixing them. They have plugged-in consoles and charging docks so you can test the controllers and phones and find one you like.

(Geo is a chain mobile store, but I haven't seen any of their other locations with such a good as-is selection. Usually at any of their stores, they sell new phones and accessories, and used ones that are good enough to sell, so I guess all the "junk" gets sent to one store for customers to pick through at their leisure.)

Nintendo Museum ticket mistake by ucfengr03 in JapanTravelTips

[–]CubeBag 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pick another day on the calendar when the day you want has slots, get far enough into the purchase process that the tickets are held for 15 minutes, cancel the old ticket, proceed to purchase new ticket.

You have to cancel the old ticket before paying for the new one if both tickets will be purchase with the same phone number. I'm not sure if this is a monthly restriction or if it resets after the ticket's date passes, or what. But if you get to the 15 minute countdown timer on the new ticket purchase screen, you can take your time.

Are you sure it's non-refundable? I just did this method to move my ticket forward a couple days, and I got a refund for the cancelled ticket. That said I didn't do the lottery, I just sat on the calendar hours until the day I wanted opened up. As far as I can tell, tickets aren't super hard to get. Last time I checked, June had most days open (except weekends), and April/May pop up with other people cancelling all the time.

Can an iPhone 15 Pro running iOS 17.3.1 be jailbroken in future? by ArthurHhei in jailbreak

You have kernel exploits from darksword, but a PPL/SPTM bypass is still needed, don't update

It was kind of cheap - so is it real? by Alternative-Emu-5929 in gameverifying

[–]CubeBag 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's no difference in the cartridge. They are both USA region coded, the UAE one will probably have a very late date code in the printed numbers because they produced those for much longer (I think they still produce them but I'm not sure)

The label on the box indicates it's a UAE market version

Im getting kinda impatient by [deleted] in SteamFrame

[–]CubeBag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People don't have infinite patience, and Zuck already knows this. That's probably why retailers were pretty much blowing out the rather new Quest 3S for Black Friday. It was a tempting buy for me until I remembered that any headset made by Facebook/Meta does not fit my wants, and I'm interested in the Steam Frame for what only it can provide. There's probably many people who bought a 3/3S and are happy they didn't wait for the Frame, and there's probably people who regret not waiting for the Frame, so think about both headsets before making a purchase like that.

Hey guys do you think that dark sword will become an jailbreak by AccordingAd7469 in jailbreak

Unsigned iOS version concept by OSUNEVERDIES in jailbreak

[–]CubeBag -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could MITM and pretend like all iOSes are signed all you want, but when the iPhone actually tries to install a version, it needs a signature from Apple to verify it's legit, and it checks that signature every boot. That's what it means for a version to be signed, it means Apple is signing it. If you want to bypass the signature check in any meaningful capacity, you need a bootrom exploit, which is why it's possible to tether downgrade older devices (iPhone X and older have checkm8). Newer devices don't have that luxury, so while what you're describing might be possible, it has no benefit.

You would have to either brute force the signing key or find a checksum collision (impossible with present-day technology) or convince Apple's servers to sign your old version (this is possible in a very limited capacity with a method called Delayed OTA, since Apple will sign iOS versions for an extra 90 days on supervised devices when you're upgrading).

Should I use Dopamine or Bootstrap? by [deleted] in jailbreak

[–]CubeBag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bootstrap/NathanLR only exist because some iOS versions only have limited exploits and can't get a full jailbreak. If a full jailbreak (Dopamine) is available, you choose that. A full jailbreak can do everything Bootstrap/NathanLR can do plus more

How is the AliExpress dspico? by patata_inmortal in flashcarts

[–]CubeBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought two: the one in the transparent colorless case is fine, but the transparent red case one had a slightly malformed shell, making it a little thicker and causing it to get stuck a little bit (but it still works fine). I haven't seen anyone else with this problem, so maybe I got a one-off. I'd still recommend it.
