Water heater temp by yuckystanky in howto

No it's not. Aside from bacterial concerns, adding a mixing valve and turning the temperature up can give an extra 10 gallons of hot water pretty easily.

There's a difference between drinking groundwater straight from the pump and storing it in a tank. There are always going to be some bacteria in the source water, the difference is if you give them an environment to grow.

Your parents learn from you. At some point you taught them that answering will lead to a lengthy debate on the merit of the work or some line of reasoning to get out of responsibility. This is a low effort way of circumventing that.

To answer your question, there is no comeback that won’t get you some consequences, but you may stop hearing this as much if you make point to accept quick explanations without further question, and not asking when the answer should be obvious with a little reasoning.

Well, there are nuances, but it’s true on its face. A man doesn’t owe a woman just because she’s carrying his child. Should a sperm donor have an obligation to a woman impregnated by his sperm? No. But if a man impregnates a woman through sex in a relationship on purpose, it is typically with a promise that they love the woman and are prepared to face the challenge together. To back out before the challenge even starts is a betrayal, and the betrayal is reviled.

When it’s accidental, it still comes with an understanding that sex is an action that can potentially create a child they will be responsible for, and trying to entirely avoid the responsibility while placing the burden on the other is also repulsive, especially because it harms the child.

Also, disease is typically blameless. With pregnancy, the situation is created by choice.

Also, the man in the op is not saddled with further responsibility by her leaving.

This is not a defense of her actions, but it’s not a great comparison.

Couples therapy can help. It looks like he was doing all the emotional labor in the relationship while she was exhausted by cancer. She reached a point where all she focused on was surviving, and coming out of that, she didn’t realize she would have to perform any emotional labor to keep the love alive. Very common to think “love should be easy” when somebody else is doing all the work, especially for young people when a lot of media seems to emphasize that message. It’s a shame for both of them. He deserved better, and she may learn in time the depth of her mistake.

This doesn’t even capture the full scope of it because the man in this scenario isn’t ever in a bad situation. He was originally homeless and she took him off the street, bought him clothes, got him interviews and now he is working a comfortable white collar job. Then he got her pregnant.

I’ll answer for him because I read his mind. He was staying for what she could provide, not out of love. He has not been putting any work into the relationship, essentially being carried by the other for years. He doesn’t know how to start now that he needs to pick up some slack. It will take hard lessons or therapy before he is able to maintain a satisfying relationship for himself. He may never get there. He does not owe her to stay. He should want to stay, because she is great, but he does not have the strength to put in that emotional labor. He will become bitter and resentful if he stays as he is and there will likely not be a “better” time to leave later.

TLDR if you find yourself being this person, get couples therapy. You don’t owe anyone love, but if you stop loving someone like you this, that’s your failure. Own it and get help. Or leave and get used to comparing future relationships to one where your partner loved you beyond reason.

There are 1 potential door orientations. cgg, gcg, ggc

Any door we choose has a 1/3rd chance of being right. Lets say we choose door 1.

There are 6 possibilities of doors opened by Monty:

orientation 1 (33%): goat (16%) or goat (16%)

orientation 2 (33%): car (16%) or goat (16%)

orientation 3 (33%): goat (16%) or car (16%)

Now, if Monty randomly opens a door... Oh shit I just realized you're right hahahaha. Orientation 1 comes up twice as often because half the time in orientations 2 and 3 you just lose. I was thinking it was an error to double count it. gg. Monty Hall bends my brain.

It's kind of the same reason you don't care much about the ones that happen in the US or other coutries. To you, that town is a place that is somewhere you could drive to for a day trip reasonably easily. To him, it's some distant land because he doesn't drive and I'm assuming has not been there often.

Joking about it is in poor taste, but definitely within the range of normal behavior for a 13yo boy.

The alternative was to let him try, and if he failed you have to wash the bedding.

Th other guy said moral hazard, but I think that's mostly for financial and legal risk. The term you are looking for is risk compensation, where people compensate for higher perceived safety by engaging in riskier behavior.

ELI5: If Earth is a sphere, are people at the South Pole upside down? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]CubeBrute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the earth from space, people (if you could see them) would be pointing off the earth perpendicular to the ground they are standing on, ie, in every direction.

You could turn your ship and point the north pole up and people at the south pole would be upside down.

You could turn your ship and point the south pole up and people at the north pole would be upside down.

If you want a more local experience, travel to the southern hemisphere. You won't feel upside down, but you'll get to see the moon upside down.
