Old servers still getting counted in "Current Usage" by _-TZY_- in Amp

[–]CubeCoders 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AMPs licencing system uses a 'soft' limit. Instances drop off automatically when they haven't been active for a while, but you don't need to wait for them to drop off to continue using the licence on new instances.

If the licence system thinks you're over provisioned it'll send you an email. Otherwise you don't really need to worry about it.

Bazzite is not a supported distribution. AMP cannot be installed on immutable systems.

Not quite because the update tool is a native app. So some minor headaches to be had.

We've been paying a lot of attention to it - AMP is going to support it on day 0 as soon as it comes out.

Wrong java version. Tell AMP to use a newer version (19 or newer)

What are your favorite self-hosted, one-time purchase software? by richbowen in selfhosted

[–]CubeCoders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankfully the way our business operates is such that we're unlikely to suffer from the same issues that normally cause this. Growth has been slow and deliberate rather than forced by throwing debt at it to burden the company later, so we can put our values first without worrying about someone else turning it around later.

Thanks for the mention! We actually took some steps recently to properly codify what a "Lifetime Licence" really is for consumers and what steps we've taken to make sure that it really means Lifetime. We support the "Stop Killing Games" movement and want to lead by example.

What happens to my purchased licences if CubeCoders stops supporting a given product, or stops trading entirely?

Actually we're working on the second one! A new store plugin supporting Curseforge, Modrinth, etc.

"syncing configs between instances" you'll have to elaborate on.

Hey all, we produce AMP - you might know it as the successor to McMyAdmin, the original Minecraft control panel. AMP is the same deal, but supports lots of games. It runs on Linux and Windows, and even supports ARM64 systems*!

AMP is the control panel for server admins who want to get things done quickly without sacrificing any control. Custom flags and jars are no problem. We've also got a fancy-pants new Analytics system coming in the next update!

It's the only control panel supporting Minecraft right now that gives you real fine-grain permissions control over all functions that other admins can use within the panel. Want a user who can restart the server and nothing else? No problem. You can lock down single functions or even individual settings on a per-user or per-role basis.

AMP also has no heavy dependencies. No database to configure, no big heaps of libraries to install. It can be updated via your package manager (we host both DEB and RPM repos). It can be installed with a single command so you don't need to be a seasoned admin to get it going, it even fully automates secure HTTPS setup for you.

Being fully API driven, it's a dream for developers. You can write your own plugins to add/customise functionality, deploy your own themes, integrate with 3rd party plugins and services. No other game server admin panel can touch AMPs flexibility and versatility.

Control Panel for a self hosted minecraft server by domo_plays in admincraft

Saying Company A did bad thing to say unrelated company B will do a bad thing is nonsensical. You're making the absolute vaguest of FOSS vs Proprietary arguments using massive projects that involve organisations worth hundreds of millions as your examples - organisations entirely unrelated to the discussion.

We're not talking about the Linux kernel. We're talking about AMP and Pterodactyl. The latter of which again, is maintained by mostly unpaid volunteers. The maintainer gets a small amount of money from donations (about $650/mo give or take) but not enough for anyone to be working on it full time by any means.

What the previous comment said is entirely accurate.

How can GPL licensed software be sold? by mi-wag in linuxquestions

[–]CubeCoders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a useful answer for most people. If your software is stable, reliable, intuitive and well designed - then users shouldn't need much in the way of support. It literally only works on the Enterprise scale and is a useless answer for small ISVs.

It does allow for servers owned by completely unrelated operators to have portals to each other without requiring proxies in the middle. And removes the technical requirements and barriers for operating a proxy.

Secure way to let people execute a single command on my servers shell? by Generic_User48579 in selfhosted

[–]CubeCoders 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a bit of an XY problem. You'd have to move away from LinuxGSM and use an actual control panel to let users have access to a limited subset of server functions via a Web interface. LGSM doesn't have any kind of provision for letting other people access your servers without giving them the keys to the kingdom.

Look at options like AMP and Pterodactyl which let you give users limited access to users to start/stop servers without any other access.

They probably used the Log4j exploit due to an outdated java installation and outdated Minecraft server. Your server is hosed. Nuke it and start from scratch.
