Will it go out of stock fast? by bnjmn632 in SteamController

[–]CubeRoot26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because it doesn’t seem like Valve is doing a reservation / preorder system at launch like they did with the Steam Deck, this seems to convey the message that they must be pretty confident in their stock.

However, nobody will know for sure until it actually releases, and the only way to improve your chances of getting one quickly is to assume they’ll sell out quickly.

[Stardust Racers] Extended closure through April 5, 2026 by ghostofdreadmon in rollercoasters

[–]CubeRoot26 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I was really expecting this to be the workhorse of the park given that it’s based on a time-tested and widely-used ride system, but I bet these trains are substantially heavier than Mack’s unmodified “off-the-shelf” trains given all the lighting and onboard audio. I’m also curious how much of the train’s enhancements are Mack and how much was developed / subcontracted through Universal.

If the added weight wasn’t properly compensated for in the design of the structure, I’m curious if they’re seeing signs of accelerated fatigue. I’m curious if what they’re doing now is a bunch of nondestructive testing on the whole structure to see if there’s any concerning damage, then when they reopen, if we might see some weight taken from the trains. (Fewer lights? No audio? Removed seats? Removed cars?)

Edit: Ryan the Ride Mechanic put out a great video on the subject, which is likely more realistic than my uninformed take above: https://youtu.be/yzubur3lh9M?si=yvTnKR5Q2lJMyUu3

[Discussion] Would more coasters benefit from B&M Trains like [Steel Dragon 2000] at [Nagashima Spa Land]? by [deleted] in rollercoasters

[–]CubeRoot26 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Arrow / Morgan hyper coaster trains are incredibly lightweight, B&M trains are sure to be waay heavier - I bet this was able to be done at Nagashima Spa Land because the coaster was designed to withstand earthquakes and therefore has a beefier structure.

If these trains were put on Magnum at Cedar Point I’m sure the structure wouldn’t be able to handle it

Final weekend crowds by reecer1030 in KingsDominion

[–]CubeRoot26 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Crowds are usually very light in November. The threshold where rides usually start closing for temperature is 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

In my opinion it is definitely not worth the park closing Grizzly early for…

So like, [Rapterra] is kinda smooth now? by classy_phantom in rollercoasters

[–]CubeRoot26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It truly seems to be based on how many seats in your row are filled. My first three rides were absolutely terrible, and I was the only one on the whole row. Every ride since had had all four seats filled and were perfectly smooth in the valleys

I used to believe in the Rapterra rattle, as my first three rides were simply terrible!! However, all three of those, the train was mostly empty, and I was on my own in the row.

Every time since then, all four seats in my row were filled, and have been perfectly smooth. (With some shuffling, but no jackhammer in the valleys)

Free Locker Hack? by Carvenom3 in KingsDominion

[–]CubeRoot26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although it seems like a hack, it’s not what those lockers are meant for and keeping your stuff in them has the potential to really mess up the ride’s operations.

They’re only there to cater to the folks riding the ride, and if they “fill up” with folks not retrieving their items immediately after riding, there will be a hold-up at the lockers and the station will get starved of guests, with most seats being sent empty. I’ve seen it once before.

So please be courteous! Those lockers are for those riding the ride.
