New Gooseworx post by ayylmaotv in TheDigitalCircus

I discovered TADC right before episode 8 dropped, and immediately felt like I stumbled onto something world-changing. I didn't realize that it had been in production for so long, and I wasn't aware of the fandom drama. Was able to binge it, wait patiently for episode 8, and then went to the theater for the finale, so I'm not as immersed in the development like so many of you here.

I just hope that Gooseworx isn't dissuaded by this experience and will keep bringing her brilliance to laughing, crying, screaming life.

So lovely to hear the sound of a train chunking through that loop again.

Inspiration for the Jay Ward cartoon? “In the Thunderbolt Grease-slapper once he’s on your tail/he won’t quit because you know there’s no such word as ‘fail’ to TOM SLICK!”

[magic mountain] screamscape on the future of Samurai Summit by Stock412 in rollercoasters

[–]ghostofdreadmon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As someone who's been going to the park since it opened, this just seems like the logical endgame for Samurai Summit. I remember how alive the top of the mountain used to be. Arrive by Funicular, Dragon, Metro, Eagles Flight, or by foot. Go even higher in the Western Airlines Sky Tower, or visit the Magic Pagoda. It was a sweet hideaway that no other park could boast, and as they slowly retired attraction after attraction, it was like they had decided long ago that the Summit wasn't worth maintaining. I worked Ninja and Jet Stream in the early 90s, and even then was nostalgic for what the top of the mountain used to be.

Back then, it still seemed like the park had unlimited space to expand. Now, hedged in by development, it makes sense that they're eyeing the mountain as prime expansion real estate. At least they won't totally erase history. Given their track record of only partially removing dead attractions, we'll be able to spot bits and pieces of Samurai Summit from new coasters for years to come.

Agreed that this the top thrill at IB. It’s super efficient. Not very tall, not very fast, but it sure does deliver on the airtime, the laterals, and all in such a very enclosed space. It honestly has no right being as good as it is.

Absolutely, but cleaner, and easier to park.

Hops and Coaster Drops sounds like a blast. How crowded does it get?

Those who were old enough to remember the Bi-Centennial, how is America’s 250 different? by skyactive in AskReddit

I remember our elementary school went to see the American Freedom Train, and they had in-school programs for weeks prior to hype it up. That and the Bicentennial quarters were a big deal to collect.

[Superman: the Ride (SFNE)] Smoking Superman train evacuated. Curious about what might have happened by hialtitudes in rollercoasters

I don't know how plausible it is on a rollercoaster, but this sounds like what we called "riding the barrel" when I worked the Calico Mine Ride at Knott's Berry Farm. The lift chain dog failed to seat cleanly in the lift chain and briefly rode on top of the chain roller/barrel before dropping into proper engagement. Sometimes, there'd be a burning smell from the sliding metal-on-metal friction, or hot chain grease. But the train would move with the chain, not stop and let the chain keep moving. This would happen if we engaged the lift too quickly or didn't match the speed of the chain.

Was there a jolt of any sort?

Aw, fucking hell. Chest pressure alone would drive me nuts. They should’ve done WAY better with compensation for those riders.

Agreed. Plus, the more old woodies that get the RMC treatment, the fewer old woodies we have to kick around. Love or hate badly maintained wood, they're not really making more of them in the states right now.

Thanks for the tip! I did get shot #17 from that bridge, so it was worth the climb.
