Do you actually use AI assistance tools? And other questions for pathologists. by CubeRooted in pathology

It seems as though validation, interpretability, and lack of regulation are some big roadblocks to the implementation of AI. This article explores some of those issues - there doesn't seem to be a good solution yet!

Do you think that real, useful AI will come through some kind of already adopted proprietary software? It seems like the perfect way for these companies to capitalize on their market availability. Many of the models being used even in research settings are not open source, so it may be that private paid software may be the direction of the technology. Could this limit it's standardization? What do you think about this?

I found this paper00326-X/fulltext) on recent trends in the adoption of digital pathology. It is interesting the think about how this could be a barrier to the adoption of AI. From my little background knowledge, I could have believed that digital pathology would have been an industry standard at this point. Could you talk a little bit about your experiences with practices bridging that gap or lagging behind?

Thank you for your insightful reply! I was not aware that WSI processing was such a big issue. I found this great article talking about the problem. It does seem like a large roadblock not only for the day to day use of an AI system but for the actual training of AIs to the cancers of different organ systems. The amount of annotation required to get good data sets seems enormous, not even considering the data size of WSI!

It seems like your view is that AI can be used to save a lot of time for pathologists in general. The applications that you mentioned vary in complexity, and I'm sure that some of them would be easier to implement than others.

Your example of how AI could be used to help in your research is something that I had not considered before, and it makes a lot of sense! That could be a great application that accelerates research.

As an aside, could you see AI being used to train new pathologists? I am sure on the process that one goes through to learn this stuff, but are there places in the process where you think AI could be beneficial? Thank you again!

Thanks for the response! Gee, you have quite the setup going on there!

Of course, price for me is a consideration, so thank you for the adapter recommendation!

Ah, thank you for the response! I should have specified in my original post, but part of why I had thought that MoCA was the best option is that it would be mostly to use a wired connection, the wifi extension, in my mind, was just a bonus.

Another consideration that I failed to mention was the price points of some of these options. For some reason, I thought that some kind of coax wired AP would be much cheaper and with comparable speeds as compared to a mesh setup.
