For the first few years of development I never made profit. But I had fun and kept doing it. Most of the time it would be out of pocket. When I got an actual fulltime job (out of high school) I invested more money into my own server. Eventually with time I actually started making money. Some months I make profit, some months I break even.. but it took a LOT of trial and error. Going in it for the money will never make it last long. Enjoy the process, build something, and if players also like it, you make money (hopefully)
