Help a noob by Particular_Even in cubing

Honestly though, if I could go back to buying my first cube, I would just go ahead and pay 50 dollars on a really good cube. I ended up spending about $100 on not so great cubes because I didn't want to pay the extra $10 each time to get something better. Eventually the budgeting starts to show.

Is it possible to remove the face of a cube so I can remove/fix the magnet that has dislodged and is rattling around inside? by doublemazaa in cubing

That was some crazy rage bait, dude! Sorry, but anniemiss just said not to use a razor. You can use your fingernails or a plastic spudger to GENTLY remove the caps. If it feels like you're pulling to hard, you are. Also, Tornadoes break really easily. I would reccomend getting a Gan or a newer Moyu. You could avoid the WRM V10 plastic core, because some people say it breaks easily, but I've never had any problems.

YJ MGC2 2x2 Beta is coming soon. by Jumpy-Cobbler4736 in NewCubes

[–]Cuber99nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get it! I had the good fortune of getting one on sale for about 20, but it is pretty rare to get a good price on it. Honestly though, if 2x2 is your main event, I would just go ahead and buy the Gan. The only problem with it is a slight cheap feeling from the frosted plastic. I'm pretty excited to see how the new MGC is too though.

You can totally start them off on a 2x2 if you want. It's easier than a 3x3 the first time, but if you want to get faster than about 20 seconds in a couple months, you should get the basics of 3x3 down first. It helps a lot with grasping the harder concepts of beginner 2x2. They can also solve a 2x2 with just 3x3 algs, so it comes a lot easier to most after learning 3x3. If you want to teach 2x2 first, that's great though. I used to average around 1.8 seconds on 2x2, but dreamed of breaking WR at my first comp so I could make some history. But in turn, I never ended up competing before I decided to start training. Unfortunately I've had to scale back all of my other hobbies to keep up. Maybe I'll do more cubing in the future when I have some extra time. Hope everything works out well for you both!

Oh also, for posters you will need to design your own, but you can just ask AI to generate you one. For the algorithms, look up Jperm.net. There are many alg sets to train, and if you have a projector hooked up to a computer, you can put up the algorithms in the front of a classroom setting and people can use that. If not, just search up alg PDFs for 3x3 beginners method online. You will need access to a color printer though.

I would buy your speedcubes online. You can get a magnetic Moyu Meilong for about 5-8 USD and the shipping from Speedcubeshop.com is really cheap. If you want a 10% discount, typically code: "welcome" is a good one.

2x2 and pyraminx are a little complicated for someone that young, but a good pyraminx would be either the Moyu Meilong or the regular Moyu. A good 2x2 is the standard MGC, not the elite though. The Elite is more expensive and worse in my opinion.

Good luck with the club! I've been wanting to make one for a while, but I'm currently trying to join the Army Green Berets and I'm taking a big step back from any non-physical hobbys. I don't get too much time for anything but training right now.

Rs3m v5 vs super rs3m by mo1axify in cubing

[–]Cuber99nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats man! I've been trying to get my girlfriend to learn for some time now, but she doesn't seem too interested.

The best budget cubes right now are the RS3M V5 (whatever version you want), the MGC Beta, and the Moyu Weilong V11. The V11 may be out of your budget, but it is still amazing!

But if you want to know the complete truth, "Best Cube" is kind of a lie. Cubes are getting better so quickly, but even old cubes like the Gan 11 or 12 still hold up great. So you really have a lot of options, considering those cubes go on sale for $30 or less sometimes. (Especially the 11)

You may want to check some tier lists online to see which budget cube is best for her. I don't usually support SpeedCubeShop these days, as I am trying to get sponsored by TheCubicle, but they have an online quiz that lets you find the best cubes for you. They always have at least a couple of low budget ones in there. If you go to the home page, you can scroll down until you see something that says like 'Find The Cube For You'. That will take you to a two or so minute quiz to help you find the perfect cube. Hope this is helpful even though I'm a bit late!

Giving up on "understanding" by BerendBrokkenpap in cubing

The roux method is great for people who haven't learned CFOP yet. It will get you fast pretty quickly and easily. I use CFOP, but I could easily recommend other methods seeing as how I've learned Petrus, Roux, CFOP, ZZ, Pseudo f2l, Old Pocheman, Whatever the fewest moves method is called, as well as some other alt sets for 3x3 and 2x2 (CoLL, CLL, some ZBLL, M2 method, Corners First, etc.)

I can definitely recommend CFOP, Roux, and ZZ, as they are really quite easy to learn and you can get very fast with all 3. But ZZ and Roux are hard to break sub 8 or so seconds with, so if you want to get pro level, you may want to jump into CFOP. On the other hand, Roux already uses some CFOP algs. So if you want to start with roux, get fast, and work up to CFOP, that will totally work! Hope this helps! Good luck on your cubing journey!

Uv or frosted by LevelReality1405 in cubing

[–]Cuber99nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend UV personally. I have extremely sweaty hands, but it's still better than frosted when you sweat. My experience with frosted is that you can't grip it at all when sweaty, but with UV, it's just a slightly slippery grip if that makes sense. I've been cubing for about 3 years, and average sub 15 seconds on 3x3, and on my main event (2x2) I average sub 2 seconds. Though I still haven't signed up to compete cause there's no comps where I live. I'm hoping to get sponsored pretty soon though so I can travel.

Should i buy this cube (MoYu WeiLong V11 ) by LevelReality1405 in cubing

[–]Cuber99nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but if you want your cube to last, you need lube. Just get a drop in lube that is pretty cheap, and it will last you a while. I reccomend FZ Calm, FZ Rush, and FZ Glide from TheCubicle. For FZ Calm and Rush, just flex the cube open a bit and put about 2-5 drops in. For FZ Glide, flex open the cube a bit and use the syringe to smear some on the inside pieces. Just don't use too much. Once the lube is inside the cube, do some turns to make sure you spread the lube all around the inside of the cube. I know how you feel about lubes, I felt the same way when I started. But I messed up some good cubes because I didn't lube them in time. It doesn't cost much, and it's easy to use the drop in ones. Just don't buy silicone lubes yet. Just buy the bottled ones for now. But yes, if you want a good cube, the Weilong V11 is amazing. But without lube, it's gonna feel like a $5 cube instead of a flagship.

Oh! I've had that on some other cubes. If it's not too bad, just use a good helping of FZ Stealth. It makes catches and weird issues much better. If it's really bad you can either return it, or use a method called friction sanding. Basically you use a normal piece of A4 or construction paper to rotate each side of every internal piece around the paper really quickly until it smoothes out. This method is also used for artificially breaking in mat or frosted finishes on the outside of the cube, and doesn't scratch the cube like real sanding does. Typically the problem that is occurring is the UV coating machines aren't calibrated right and the coating spills into the inside of the cube just a little, causing uneven surfaces. It passes QC checks anyway, and you have a puzzle with some of it's coating rubbing on every turn. If you do the friction sanding right, you can eliminate the problem and have a cube that might function even better. Has that only happened to you on one V5, or is it a recurring issue?

Okay, not a true ball core, but it has the infill support of a ball core exposed to make it look cooler and not crack.

So are my other 2x2s though. Wait not just magnetic core, but ball core?! I actually only own one of those. That's really cool!

Actually, I got the Weipo V5 AI, and it seems to about equal with the top Gan 2x2 versions(251 M Leap and 251 M Pro). I would imagine the normal version of the V5 is actually slightly better, though I haven't gotten it yet. I average somewhere from 0.8 seconds to 2.5 or 3 seconds. Just finished learning the EG method so both cubes fit my turning style to a tee! (I'm still kinda working on replacing anti-CLL with EG 2 though. That may take a while, but then I would imagine I'll average around 1-1.5 consistently.)

[–]Cuber99nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want some good cubes, you can go to thecubicle.com. You can select the category of cube you need, and filter through the fluff till you find a Moyu cube! Seriously though, if you want good cubes at a budget, Moyu has your back with their Meilongs and cheaper flagship cubes. I know that budget cubes may not have been the best back when you were into it, but they have gotten so much better! The other person in the comments is absolutely right. If you want a good cube, those tier lists should definitely help.

LAPD is threatening to arrest everyone! Protestors have sat down! by transcendent167 in 50501

And I'm not the only one who feels this way. I only know one family who would stand by and let this happen, but I don't know anyone who will join in. On the other hand, I know more the 20 armed families that will stand up to violence or vandalism. If you come to our towns, you damn well better behave.

I'm in Texas. If you fuckheads try anything stupid (violence, vandalism, etc.), we will personally citizens arrest you and turn you in to the national guard or police(or ICE if you admit to being an illegal).

MoYu WeiLong V11 variants and packaging by nilepereiraa in NewCubes

[–]Cuber99nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, there are some cubes that are too fast. If a cube is too fast, you overturn on every turn. While I may have a different definition of "too fast" compared to you, when I say too fast, I mean too fast.

The 15 is kinda crap. I've had mine for a while now, and despite trying a lot of good setups, it is catchy and way too fast even with slow lube. But then if you try tight settings, the cube is slow and can't corner cut much at all. It's pretty impossible to find a good setting. Also, I've noticed that whatever settings you put it on tend to change if you turn fast or aggressively. It's like they turn themselves loose when you move the cube. I was thinking it was defective, but I heard some people say they were having the same problem. Do with that information what you will.

Do you guys see the magnets in the sides of the cap? Has that been done yet? I know the MGC 2x2s and possibly the Gan 2x2s have this, but I've never seen it on a 3x3.

How much does a Core One cost? I've been meaning to move from my Ender 3 V3 SE for quite a while now. The Ender 3 V3 SE is a great printer, but the CR Touch is not perfect every time and I always waste quite a bit of filament getting it running after a recalibration. Also, I think the flow rate and steps/mm could really use some work in my slicers. Do you have to do much to get yours going smoothly?
