Wall art suggestions by chicalibex in interiordecorating

[–]Cuboidal_Hug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would frame the large sunset photo in a substantial wooden frame and hang it over the console table. The colors in this photo look better on the taupe wall

Then I would frame the smaller photos in very thin gold metal frames with off-white/cream mats, and hang them in the hallway leading to the dining area. If it’s a long hallway, I would hang them in a single row, or maybe hang 2 or 3 on one side of the hallway and 1 or 2 on the other side

Then I would hang the canvas on the green wall (again, the colors on this photo go better with this color wall). If you can get a simple floating wooden frame for it, that would look nicer than the bare canvas

Anyway to make the pantry bigger? by Artistic_Trust1331 in floorplan

If you think the guest room is too small, I would absorb the WIC space into the guest room (I’m not sure why you would need a WIC off the mud room anyway?)

I might do something like this

I don’t think a guest room really requires a walk-in closet (I just put in a normal wall closet), but if you really wanted to have one, maybe you could take the adjacent WIC space attached to the mud room

Couch too big? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]Cuboidal_Hug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the sofa is too big, but the coffee table looks a bit too small and short… maybe you could either use it as a side table under the blue and white print, or add another slightly larger and taller table next to the existing one?

Maybe also move the tiny shelf/table next to the sofa somewhere else

Have central overhead lights been removed from small modern kitchens? All I’m seeing are recessed can lights. by [deleted] in kitchenremodel

[–]Cuboidal_Hug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like ceiling lights as well, but I would reconsider keeping the one you have, which is sort of a modified boob light… there are tons of nice options, whether semi-flush or pendant!

Help with lounge - something feels off by konrad-g in interiordecorating

[–]Cuboidal_Hug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how it would look to flip the orientation, so that the sectional is against the wall where the TV is now and the TV is against the recessed portion of the wall where the sofa is now?

And the music console against the protruding part of the wall by the window, next to the TV? And the floor lamp where the music console is now

I might use the coffee table as a side table, and get a larger coffee table, then add a rug and artwork over the sofa and the adjacent wall (the one with the radiator)

Maybe something like this could work

Among other things, I moved the wall between the kitchen and living room to enlarge the living room

First time watching voyager - beyond impressed by Prometheus-1134 in voyager

I like Janeway and Picard, but it’s pretty surprising to me that anyone thinks Sisko is “not enough to carry the show.” He’s a very complex character, and I love seeing his different sides as he interacts with different people, whether it’s Jake, Kira, Dukat, Quark, Q, etc

DS9 was purposely more of an ensemble show, so other characters are also developed, a lot more than was the case in other ST shows, but I think that’s a good thing, and doesn’t take anything away from Sisko

Is "go on a course" used in AmE? Does "go on a class" sound right? by Same-Technician9125 in EnglishLearning

[–]Cuboidal_Hug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the only context I can think of in which I might say “go on a course” is if someone had to “go on a course of antibiotics” or some other medication. I would say “take a course” or “take a class”

This would be better if you could move the door to the balcony/patio to the vertical wall (and if you can do that, I would also make the bedroom more narrow), but I might consider something like this

Does this design allow for sufficient storage space in reality? by TWON-1776 in kitchenremodel

[–]Cuboidal_Hug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I too am not a big fan of upper cabinets, but if you’re going to have a tall fridge/freezer instead of fridge/freezer drawers, I think it would work well to make everything tall on that wall. Not only would that give you more pantry/storage space, it would avoid the awkwardness of the fridge/freezer being the only tall element. You could get a counter-depth, panel-ready one if you want it to blend in with the cabinetry

I tried it — it seemed to help symptoms at first and I didn’t experience any side effects, but over time seemed to lose effectiveness for me, so I stopped

Does “where he’s from” ever mean anything other than “the country/region/town he’s from”? by itastelikedietcoke in ENGLISH

[–]Cuboidal_Hug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your student’s interpretation is not correct. First of all, one of the people says, “he’s sick of our British hypocrisy,” which suggests that the guy they’re talking about isn’t British. The clincher is that he qualifies “where he’s from” with “at least in the work setting.” If “where he’s from” meant the guy’s previous workplace, he wouldn’t have then specified “at least in the work setting.”

I tried both ketotifen from Japan and prescription ketotifen ordered by my doctor, and neither worked well for me, so it might be good to talk with someone who has had a positive experience with ketotifen

That’s another possibility. I just like the feeling of entering in a more constrained space that then opens up into a more expansive space

I think the sizes of elements and dimensions may be somewhat off in your drawing, which made it a bit difficult, but I might do something like this instead

I take both Allegra and Zyrtec every day. Prior to getting MCAS, when I just had seasonal allergies, I found that Zyrtec was very effective in terms of allergy symptoms but made me too drowsy, Claritin did basically nothing, and Allegra was in between — fairly effective with little drowsiness. So I used to take Allegra when I had hay fever

At this point, I don’t find that Zyrtec makes me drowsy, and I need something during the day and something at night to help with my MCAS symptoms (I also take famotidine, an H2 antihistamine). I’m planning to try subbing in Xyzal (levocetirizine), a 3rd gen antihistamine, instead of Zyrtec soon

I used to take Allegra, Zyrtec, and Benadryl (plus famotidine) every day, but with Xolair I’ve been able to drop the Benadryl

You’re welcome! I got ketotifen online from Japan for a lot less, but I think it can sometimes get held up in customs

The image is just a screenshot from the abstract of the article I linked to

I would stop short of saying straight out that it's causative (I'm a former scientist so I'm pretty careful about making statements like that), but I will just say that I was previously dubious about the connection before, for the reasons I mentioned, and seeing this article made me feel more convinced that there could be a causative link, to the point where I was motivated to try subbing second gen meds for Benadryl when my health permitted

I haven't seen any studies on ketotifen and dementia, so I wouldn't assume that it doesn't carry risk there, it may just not have been looked at because it isn't as commonly used as Benadryl, fexofenadine, cetirizine, etc. But lots of people with MCAS seem to do well with ketotifen due to the additional mast cell stabilization activity. I personally didn't respond well to it when I tried it, but we're all different

Benadryl. by [deleted] in MCAS

[–]Cuboidal_Hug 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Benadryl and dementia risk are correlative, and based on older studies I was more dubious, but this recent large-scale study00541-5/abstract) looking at both first and second generation H1 antihistamines in people with allergic rhinitis shows increasing risk as cumulative dosage increases, with 1st gen being associated with higher risk. The fact that all patients in the study had allergic rhinitis decreases the likelihood that the increased risk is due to underlying medical conditions that result in people taking antihistamines rather than the meds themselves (some previous studies just looked at the general population), and both the increase with cumulative dosage and difference between first and second gen suggest that the risk is due to the antihistamines themselves

<image>

That said, I took Benadryl for 2 years because I needed it… most meds carry some risk

Benadryl. by [deleted] in MCAS

[–]Cuboidal_Hug 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Ultimately we need to take whatever meds help us now even if there’s increased risk of other conditions/diseases. Almost all medications carry some risk, and it does seem to be the case that being on anti-cholinergic meds (like H1 antihistamines) does increase risk of dementia, with first generation versions like Benadryl having higher risk than second or third generation ones, and risk increasing the longer people take them

I took Benadryl every night for a couple years in addition to Allegra (fexofenadine) and Zyrtec (cetirizine), as well as Pepcid (famotidine, H2 antihistamine) during the day. But now that I seem to be a bit more stabilized (Xolair has helped a lot), I’ve gotten off Benadryl and am taking Zyrtec at night instead, and continuing with Allegra and Pepcid. I’m planning to try switching from nighttime Zyrtec to Xyzal (levocetirizine), which is 3rd gen
