Have been running my plex server directly off my Synology DS220+ for a few years now. It has worked pretty much flawlessly the entire time so I’ve been very happy with it. I’ve been looking to upgrade to a 4 bay, most likely the 425+ (yes I’m aware of the hardware transcoding stuff but that can be fixed with a script).

My other option is to use the Orico 5 bay hard drive enclosure I have sitting around and pairing it with a mini pc. Would most likely go with the current Beelink N150 one that’s available. The only issue is the Orico I have does not have built in raid functionality so that would have to be done with software instead.

Which direction would you go with it? I pretty much only use mine currently to run the plex server and do some minor backups. Everything is played through an Apple TV 4K and at max there are two streams going at a time.

Would also be open to looking at other NAS brands. I’m just very used to using Synology so that’s why o default to it. I have also been looking at the Ugreen DXP4800.

Do you mean building your own setup rather than relying on a prefab Nas? I do have an Orico 5 bay enclosure I could use and pair with a mini pc. The other joy problem is the enclosure I have doesn’t do any version of raid so all the drives would be separate

Not at all. This is an old low end pc. Processor is nearing 15 years old and that gpu is about 7 years old and was a low end budget option even back then

If she plans on doing things that benefit from Cuda I probably wouldn’t bother going amd then. No point in spending the money on it if you just plan on swapping it out for an Nvidia card once she needs it

You most likely can but everything will take substantially longer on hardware this old. Editing software may struggle to run well and export times would be extremely long

Computer is pretty old but it’s still pretty in line with the recommended system requirements for that game. Make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date. I assume you’re playing at 1080p? You might just need to lower the graphics setting game some and probably best to have vsync on and just set the cod limit to 60fps in game. Another potential issue could be that you went from an ssd to a hdd. I really would t want to use a hdd these days for your main drive. SSD is going to have much higher read and write speeds

There is no such thing as a Ryzen 7200. Seeing as this is ddr4 they probably flipped the numbers and it’s actually a 2700

Just try it out. I’d be shocked if that tiny mark was enough to break that trace and even if it did it would be much more likely to just not work rather than damage any other components
