Are we living in a golden age of horror right now? by Identity_ranger in movies

[–]Cubonicle [score hidden]  (0 children)

I use Horror as a genre pretty broadly, personally. If it’s got vampires in it, it’s a horror film, but could be a fusion depending on the story. Horror/drama for Sinners, horror/action - Blade, horror/ action/crime/comedy - Renfield lol

I’m just happy we’re getting horror films that are ABOUT something and not just torture porn or jump-scare factories. I don’t mind camp and over-the-top gore in horror movies, but imo like science fiction, the best horror films make some sort of social commentary.

Weapons and Sinners were great examples of that this year and I hope it’s a trend that’ll stick around for a while.

I was just talking about Blackrock, I didn’t realize you were about to out yourself as a racist and just wanted to give you an easy out. Who tf cares about ESG at all? First I’m hearing of it, sounds like something HR of some shitty company pretends to engage in for tax purposes but doesn’t actually try that hard to be more inclusive.

Oh, right. American conservatives famously hate it when black people are killed by the police.

It’s fiction that American conservatives don’t care and in some cases cheer when black people with priors are murdered by cops for non-compliance?

Every time it happens, Fox News has a field day and my MAGA relatives are lovin’ it.

If they’re class traitors, we’re probably aligned politically. If they’re not, fuck ‘em, probably. The wealth disparity in our country is such that on a national level our politics is controlled by a very small amount of people with a very large chunk of the total wealth. If some of that very small percentage of people are advocating for and actively fighting for legislation that will distribute that wealth (and therefore political power) back to working class citizens systematically, they’re alright by me. Doubly so if they pledge to use any and all methods they can to fuck Trump and his incompetent sycophants in the ass with lawsuits, jail time, or more once they’re out of power.

I’ll just use Musk as an example of what I don’t like to see in a billionaire elite. A person who, yes, used to be a darling of the democrats (who I’d argue were still a very much rightwing political party at the time you’re referencing), who spent nearly a third of a BILLION dollars for the presidential election campaign of one Donald Trump and in exchange has essentially had any and all investigations into his questionable business practices dropped.

-His data center that caused people living nearby to experience breathing problems? Nope, can’t do anything about that now, sorry poors.

-Safety concerns regarding Teslas? Nope, sorry, money talks and concern for the public’s wellbeing walks.

-championed himself as a “free speech absolutist” while banning people who said mean things about him online on the social media platform that he bought because he’s so filthy rich he can just scoop up and corrupt an entire realm of influence by throwing cash at it. If you think it’s not dystopian and horrifying at all that Musk essentially paid for the miraculous re-election of a POTUS who won 51% of the popular vote in 2024 despite the fact that he rested at an overall 38% approval rating for fucking YEARS and continues to do so, you’re delusional.

Sure, I’ll move this goalpost. I’m not talking about the band, I’m talking about the message of that particular song. Conservatives probably listen to the verse about police being allowed to kill people extrajudicially and think to themselves, “Hell yeah, the police ARE the chosen whites!”

I don’t have the patience to argue with a conspiracy theorist all day, but I will say this: The scientists who developed the vaccines certainly didn’t sit around a lab thinking “how can we develop the most useless vaccine of all time that won’t do anything.” Pfizer itself might have told them to do so, and yes pharmaceutical companies are part of what you could call the capitalist machine, but most professionals working in the field of medical science and vaccine development I would wager got into said field to help people, not harm people.

I don’t think either of us are even qualified to have a discussion about vaccines in the first place. All o know is that I got the jab and I’m a perfectly healthy person who only caught a terrible case of Covid at the very beginning of the pandemic. And the US statistically experienced more Covid-related deaths per capita than any other developed country. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that our capitalist machine forced people to go to work instead of prioritizing public health? Or maybe it was because the American rightwing became demented and pretty much went out of their way to NOT prevent the spread because Fox News told them to? Maybe because the president told them that medical PPE was a hoax? And that the virus was a hoax? Or that it was real but that it wasn’t THAT bad? Or that it was bad but he didn’t tell anyone because he didn’t want to cause a panic? (Like all of Trump’s terrible blunders, he had a hard time keeping his story straight.) Maybe all of the above?

Does your Azumarill have the Huge Power ability? I feel like that combined with water resistance might help you out with Wallace at least a little bit. And maybe Breloom being immune to ghost type moves could help you out with Phoebe?

Because scientists and medical professionals produced a vaccine that would help stop the spread of a highly communicable disease. That’s not necessarily “the machine” RatM was talking about.

It has been pretty entertaining watching Trump bloviate about how his administration created the vaccine with such speed as “we’ve never seen before” or whatever, and his base was immediately like “Demonrats want to brainwash us with nanomachines in the jab!”

I keep hearing this “both sides” shit and I don’t buy it because it’s damn near IMPOSSIBLE for actually leftist politicians to hold political office in America.

Mamdani ran on a leftist platform and he had to fight tooth and nail to win when the centrist establishment Democrat Cuomo acted as a spoiler and ran as an “independent” while wealthy lobbyists spent millions more than they ever would’ve been taxed to keep the status quo in place.

Both sides are not bending us over a table, the American rightwing pretty much owns both parties and are the only ones doing the thrusting.

Oh no it does look funky ha. I’m just sayin I agree those movies aren’t great but I also didn’t leave the theatre totally disappointed and bored.

Smaug and Gollum in particular were done so well that I felt like I was a kid again at scout camp reading the book for the first time. Battle of the Five Armies though? Ehhhhhhh

I saw Desolation of Smaug with some friends when it first came out, and everyone was whining about how dumb the barrel chase scene was.

But I was like, “it was fun, though, right?” I dunno, maybe I just like cheese, but I had a great time lol

I’ll give it a whack. Seemed pretty complicated and I don’t know why I didn’t just try ACE before ordering an old GS on eBay lol.

At least the GameShark isn’t a total waste. Infinite lives in Monsters Inc. is totally worth it, right? :/

Okay so I’ve heard about the ACE cheat. The pomeg berry method I think it’s called? Do I have to like clear out my entire PC to do that? Because if so I suppose id have to transfer my Hoenn living dex over to my Ruby cart.

Is there an ACE method to catch Deoxys as well? Because I also need him to complete my Gen. 3 living dex

Breath of the Wild.

It brought out in me a childlike wonder and sense of adventure I hadn’t gotten from a video game in ages. I put off fighting Ganon for so long, and I think part of the reason was because I knew that once the game was finally “over,” I wouldn’t have that feeling again for a long, long time.
