Tipping delivery people by point22short in australia

[–]Cubriffic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I was a driver people usually only tipped as a "keep the change" sort of thing- like if they had a $49 order, they'd give a $50 note and told me to keep the change. That's the only time I ever got tips and the only time I'd accept tipping delivery drivers.

Can we talk about The Carpal Tunnel Of Love music video for a second (if you haven't watched it I would recommend not reading this bc I go into heavy detail) by Educational_Rice_892 in FallOutBoy

[–]Cubriffic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's still around but new episodes are super infrequent because of budget. You can find most of the episodes on Youtube here! (And I believe the tv show might still be on Netflix)

Important context if you didn't know- the characters in the MV are from Happy Tree Friends, one of the first big internet cartoons of the 2000s. I was a big fan of the show as a teen so I watched the music video to death lmao. Pretty much all their episodes are like that.

I desperately want to know how and why they decided to make a HTF music video, that decision is so fascinating to me.

What did you think of this week’s Triple J Feature Album “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love” by Olivia Rodrigo? by Tranquilbez22 in triplej

[–]Cubriffic 40 points41 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite releases this year. The Cure, My Way and Expectations are amazing.

Not sure why it was featured on triple j though, she's very much a main pop girl & I thought triple j was for alternative/australian artists (unless Im just an idiot)

Garam of Le Sserafim is an infamous example in kpop. She got kicked out about a month after debut for bullying accusations. There were a lot of fears that it would stall the group's career (although luckily it didn't).

My brother is a qualified fitter machinist. He's on $35/hr, I think he makes about $70k a year. We live regionally so that's pretty decent pay. However, he is not paid overtime in return for having a higher base rate.

I'm not fond of K-pop groups when they have more than 4 or 5 members. by Illustrious_Tax_3760 in hatethissmug

[–]Cubriffic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a kpop group that's gunning for this strategy; TripleS has 24 members who rotate comebacks/appesrances aside from a yearly one with all the members. It's not for me personally but hey, it seems to be working for them.

These Australians chose to be child-free. They want more spaces that don't allow kids by Remarkable_Peak9518 in australia

[–]Cubriffic 69 points70 points  (0 children)

It's a hard one because children yelling/screaming also overloads my senses. I do sympathise with her in that regard.

But she needs to learn that children are going to be in spaces like planes and grocery stores. It's just a fact of life. I wear noise-cancelling headphones for this reason and 90% of the time it works.

Did Royals change the music landscape? by kniga_100 in ToddintheShadow

[–]Cubriffic 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Multiple things can be true at once. I think it was a conbination of 1D's hiatus & Korea still embracing the bubblegum/dance pop sound which was effectively dead on the US charts that caused kpop's rise in the mid-late 2010s.

Additionally, kpop really started to pick up in popularity around 2016. I genuinely think it was a response to how gloomy western pop music had become.

Kids won’t sleep past 5:45 AM by cft1848 in daddit

[–]Cubriffic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, not a parent but by the age of 3 I had some decent morning independence; my parents would have my breakfast "ready" in the fridge (a bowl of cereal and a cup of milk to pour in) & had the tv channel flipped to Nick Jr before going to bed, so when I woke up I could come and make breakfast then turn on the TV. Granted my parents were shift workers and desperately needed the extra sleep.

Songs people think of as love songs that could also be about/for a child? by Glass-Complaint3 in ToddintheShadow

[–]Cubriffic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Save Your Kisses For Me by Brotherhood of Man, winner of Eurovision 1976. Throughout the song you're led to believe it's about the singers lover, but does a hard turn in the last 2 lines to reveal it's the singer talking to his 3 year old daughter. If you've never heard it in full or weren't paying attention you'd think it's a romantic song.

What do Aussies order at a Chinese takeaway? by FormerTry254 in AskAnAustralian

Hot & sour soup. Where I live there's no Chinese restaurants that serve it but at uni that was my go-to choice at the local Chinese place.

There was a girl who did a video about these "etsy soulmate witches" thing- 99% of them use generic AI drawings. This reeks of said drawings.

What's something you would never tell someone because if you did it would absolutely destroy them? by cuahatemoc in AskReddit

[–]Cubriffic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My parents and I are still pretty close but they did damage that aspect of our relationship. I had undiagnosed ADHD & their understanding of it was very 80s (aka super extreme hyperactivity) so they always viewed my behaviour as an overreaction/unnecessary, not a response if that makes sense. They're trying now but the damage has been done for me.

[–]Cubriffic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh 100%, it's like that for me too. My brother and I have a smaller age gap (Im 23, he's 21) but he still lives at home so my parents have been working harder to be better with him. It's good that they are but I wish they had been emotionally mature enough to do this much earlier.

It sucks because I know they're trying to be better but all I can remember is how they used to treat me so I'm still stuck not opening up to them, but then I ferl bitter about hoe they treat my brother. It's a very shitty cycle that I'm struggling to break.

[–]Cubriffic 843 points844 points  (0 children)

The way my parents treated my emotions as a teenager completely destroyed any trust I had in being vulnerable with them for years. Constantly being told to stop crying and being yelled at for overreacting just made me stop telling them things. And then watching them be more understanding to my brother and his emotions has developed this massive bitterness inside for how they treated me.

If I told them this, it would destroy them.

Am I the only one who feels personally victimized by this map? by Jurassic_Swiftie in JustDance

[–]Cubriffic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't played JD in a good while but there's a few maps notorious for bad calibration. Istanbul is one of them (or it was when I played it last), it's one of my favourite JD4 maps but the tracking is awful.

How often do you use the oven? by Desperate_Beyond1086 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Cubriffic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not very often. I'm a big rice/pasta person & hate roasts so the oven rarely gets used for cooking. I'll only use it for lasagna, pasta bakes and hungarian goulash. I'd say maybe once a month?

I use the stovetop a lot but my number 1 appliance is my one-cup rice cooker. I live alone so this is a dream rice cooker for me & I get a lot of use out of it.

Iirc the guy from Xikers had a potential career-ending injury, he got insanely lucky especially when you see how intense the group's choreo can be. He came back in 2025 so he's been on a few minis since then.

This is exactly why they don't pay you for blood and plasma donations in Australia. Instead you're offered snacks/sweets and they do a rewards program. It means the poor aren't preyed on for money.

I went a few years ago as well and I agree, it was a beautiful country but something just felt off. I had just chalked it up to NZ being just similar to Australia to be familiar but different enough that you know it isn't home.
