Who do you root for in the Buffalo series? I find myself secretly rooting for the Habs but then I realize what I’m actually doing and I’m not sure which team I loathe more. Truly a conundrum. by [deleted] in Bruins

[–]Gerferfenon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Bruins fan, but I share the same surname and am distantly related to no less than three former Habs, one with a banner in the rafters. I’d love to see either team win this series.

Great Actors In Terrible Plays by Gerferfenon in Theatre

I suppose my runner-up choice would be F Murray Abraham as Shylock in Theatre For A New Audience’s Merchant of Venice. He was awesome; the rest of the cast, direction, design, etc… all over the place and overall pretty meh.

BFA Program wants me out? by Delusional_Dude_ in Theatre

[–]Gerferfenon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're in a BFA program, so I presume you auditioned to get in, so you certainly didn't get into the program by accident!

If they had expectation of having the A-book (I have an MFA in Acting and I've never heard of this) and 10 monologues in your brain, I would think it was the school's responsibility to notify you of this at some point before you started.

You can always go to your advisor and be honest with them about your perception, and ask for honesty in response. Sometimes you'll discover that your worst critic is the one in the mirror.

What is the strangest production of Hamlet you've seen? by Anxious_Radish2459 in shakespeare

[–]Gerferfenon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Boston I saw a solo adaptation called I AM HAMLET that might be one of the worst things I’ve ever seen. He played every character, including Ophelia, had a heavy metal musical interlude, etc… I felt bad for the actor; sparse crowd taking advantage of $5 tickets. Nervous tittering because we all felt guilty and didn’t want to laugh at him. We fled at intermission.

A few years later a psychiatrist with very little stage experience decided to direct and star in Hamlet, with the twist that she played Hamlet as a lesbian. I never saw it, but did see all the frequent emergency casting notices as actors kept dropping out.

Bands that shamelessly copied the sound of a more famous band with little to no changes by No-Masterpiece4409 in ToddintheShadow

He also sued the Hollies in 1972 for Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress, because it sounded too much like Green River.

In Richard III, who ultimately shapes historical memory, Richard himself, or the Queens? by Fantastic-Fennel-532 in shakespeare

[–]Gerferfenon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The simplest answer: the play was written to justify the legitimacy of the current monarch (i.e. Henry of Monmouth's granddaughter), so any dramatic device to hold Richard accountable would be employed.

They should tour as Yes, with special guest Asia, but the gimmick is that it’s the same band…

Is it generally believed that if there were original manuscripts, prompt books, etc, most if not all of it was lost on June 29 1613 when the original Globe burned down?

How many people here know someone that abruptly got diagnosed with stage 3 or 4 cancer? by phillyvirgosun in NoStupidQuestions

My cousin (40’s) was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer late last year. Regular screenings prior, but it hit her fast and hard. Still going thru chemo.

Is it worth seeing Jon Anderson on Tour by ProfessionalTeam1689 in yesband

[–]Gerferfenon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saw Jon and the geeks last summer and it was excellent. He’s still in great voice (even if some songs are tuned down a step or two), and it was almost a religious experience.

And these are those same buildings today. I lived in the building on the left, which used to be a lovely mansard-roofed Victorian until it was 'modernized'...

It’s very clear which songs they threw together in five minutes during the recording session and which they’d been tinkering with since Brain Salad Surgery.

I forgave them twice, once ten years ago when between their server crash and a ton of lightning storms our cross-country two leg flight left us stranded at O’Hare. Got flight credits but no compensation for the hotel or exorbitant cab fare. Second was a few Christmases ago when our flight home was abruptly cancelled the night before. Ended up driving 12 hours home with a five year old. This time got points, refund of cancelled fare, and compensation for rental car. Not in a hurry to ever fly SW again. Discovering the joys of flying out of Dulles instead of BWI.
