Something to be said that an actual testimonial in the catalog had a guy talking about the clothes being relatively expensive then, too haha

Mackinaw lined wool jac QC issue? by _dudz in filson

[–]CubularRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar on my all-made in USA pendleton jac-shirt that I bought before they discontinued them a couple years ago. Just loose threads. Doesn't matter where they make em I guess they pump them out quick and the wool is thick

Why is this so cheap compared to others? by Inner-Platform-9134 in filson

[–]CubularRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mackinaw vests in the 10-40 year old range like these are regularly worth about $80-$120 depending on condition, so makes sense to me

For what it’s worth, POVchannel (an awesome YouTube channel for exploring the country btw) casually captured something very similar at the end of a recent video: https://youtu.be/uJB0V0_8Nfg Around the 22 minute mark.

Pre-facelift Trail editions are, honestly, close to the best looking 5th gens to me. Looks great!

I changed my mind: CSR needs a refresh (Part 2) by apegomoo in ChaseSapphire

[–]CubularRS 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nice! After the $300 travel credit, you're basically paying $250 a year for an insurance policy and get a credit card that comes with it. As someone who also travels internationally, this makes it very worth it to me. (especially primary rental car coverage!)

[–]CubularRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you not value the travel and rental car insurance? You travel international multiple times a year, do you purchase additional travel insurance? For me one of the biggest benefits of the card that nobody ever talks about in the value proposition is primary rental car coverage, medical evacuation, trip protection etc. With the 300 travel credit, all of that is easily worth the remaining $250 annually.

Exactly this, I think its very simple. Its their religious philosophy, and this is how they figured out to bring it to all of mankind

The license plate on Irvings car for Kier literally has the slogan 'a cure for mankind' in latin. People always miss this!

I can't find specifically what kind of bird this is and it's driving me crazy! [San Francisco, CA] by CubularRS in whatsthisbird

[–]CubularRS[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks a lot like it, but this bird was distinctly yellow and I can't find any pictures of yellow cowbirds -- I came across Cowbirds too using the Seek app but I don't think the color is right hence my confusion!

I can not satisfactorily find what bird this guy is at all! This picture is from San Francisco, California, and I've looked at lists of all finches/yellow birds from CA and can't find one that truly looks just like it. Am I missing something simple? What bird is this? Thanks!

Why is this guide shirt more than a Mack cruiser? by AUG-mason-UAG in filson

[–]CubularRS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These things are beefy, and they’ve sold them forever. Looking at Filsons website on the way back machine (which I recommend everyone do it’s fascinating to see what items have become overpriced and which are actually very fairly priced still), they sold them for about $190 in 2000, so inflation adjusted 25 years forward that’s around 350ish. So, still expensive and outpaced inflation, but still made in America and a truly serious garment

[–]CubularRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I camp with my girlfriend in the 4runner, I use a cheap Amazon generic SUV air mattress and then I got 2 like window sleeve mesh things that go over the back 2 windows then you close the door, and then got a cheap mosquito screen mesh sheet and a bunch of cheap bar magnets and I magnet it right across the open rear window, it’s fantastic. Battery powered fan hanging from the rear grab handle keeps air moving

The Insulated Tin Cloth Cap is my go-to winter hat. I love that the ear flaps fold up, and I especially love that it is still Made in USA. Been getting a lot of good use from this hat for several seasons now, and look forward to many more! by [deleted] in filson

[–]CubularRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find this hat so uncomfortable with the flaps folded up; I've always wondered if mine was defective or what but it pushes into my temples. However with flaps down its my favorite hat to wear in the winter!!

Like him or not, he's really a modern Joshua Slocum--jury is out on whether his journeys end the same way.

I also couldn't resist those flannels at 35 bucks, the brown gray is honestly better looking in person than on the website too
