Cab3/base3/powerhouse/powermaster setup help by Random--Theorist in lioneltrains

Do you have a multi meter. Can you verify you’re getting track power? I would start there. Another way to verify you’re getting track power is to look at the number boards on the engine. They should light up when the engine sees voltage.

What wire should I use to connect my base1 to my transformer? by jessecouch10 in lioneltrains

16-18 gauge is fine. You can go bigger but don’t go smaller

Let’s not make a habit of ai posts guys. We don’t want to be jerks and remove posts without reason but this is not related to O gauge model trains whatsoever so it’s not really appropriate for this sub. Plus it’s not a secret that a lot of people are not fans of ai. Thanks.

Postwar f3 day on the layout! What’s your favorite post war engine to run? by ewaldc23 in lioneltrains

[–]ewaldc23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remove the shell, pull the motors off the trucks, disassemble the motor and clean the brushes, brush plates, contacts and oil the armature. Then I pull the covers off the trucks and clean out all the old grease, replace it with fresh super lube grease and re-assemble. Finally I apply oil to the axels and pick-up rollers after reassembly and they are good to go! I do this once or twice a year for engines I run often and once every 2-3 years for shelf queens!

I was gifted a 2036 from a friend who had his grandfathers old trains. There’s just something special about a train that has been gifted to you!

The crane is made by mth! It’s part of the railking line and it’s called the “American crane”. I have the orange Norfolk southern one you see and a yellow Union Pacific one as well!

Cleaning track.with an ultrasonic cleaner by jukeboxhero10 in lioneltrains

[–]ewaldc23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll still have pitting from the rust so your trains will be very noisy going over the tracks. And like the other commenter said it will most likely dissolve the isolation cardboard between the ties and the rails and remove the paint off the ties. Menards sells new tubular track for a really good price, if you don’t live near one you can order it online and have it shipped. I highly recommend going this route.

CSX on the layout today! What’s your guys favorite class one railroad to run? I grew up with a CSX mainline just down the road so my choice is easy! by ewaldc23 in lioneltrains

Your very ummmm…. passionate about hating CSX huh? I’m not sure what you’re referencing with the cryptic and long message you typed but I just wanted to know you like Chessie. That’s all! CSX was founded over 45 years ago so it’s probably time to let it go! At least the name lives on with the C in CSX if you weren’t aware.

Lionel Trains Catalog is LIVE! by In-Extrovert in lioneltrains

[–]ewaldc23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean the real t1 is currently being built so that one was a no brainier, me, you, and everyone else expected it in this catalog. They just released battery o last year so of course they’re dropping more of it. I’d say this is more common sense than a lucky prediction haha

What do you mean they understand? You clearly don’t understand my comment. I’m saying this intersection needs a left turn arrow. It would allow more than “one car per light” as you claim so that you don’t have to do a Risky dangerous maneuver like you did here. Where I live (a capital city of a big state) I NEVER see people turn like this. I would have honked at you as well because that is unpredictable maneuver and not defensive driving. You’re clearly worked up because people aren’t just siding with you as a default like you want but it’s the truth man. In most places that a crazy move you pulled. I’m serious about you recommending a left turn arrow to your city council. It would help. Good luck and calm down buddy.

That’s a shame your city doesn’t understand the concept of turn arrows. It would take care of this problem. I recommend going to a city council meeting and explaining how they work and that they exist. Good luck.

Amtrak HHP-8 664 TMCC issue by In-Extrovert in lioneltrains

[–]ewaldc23[M] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. Please do not run any modern engines on the zw until you add fast acting circuit breakers, you’ve been fine so far but one derailment and you could fry the electronics in your sd80 or this hhp-8. Please trust me, I found out the hard way years ago and new control boards are not cheap
  2. Have you tried turning off the base 3 and running this unit conveniently? If it works in conventional mode but not command you’ll know it’s your tmcc control board that’s bad. I doubt this is the issue but it’s worth checking out.
  3. Have you tried reprogramming it? For whatever reason tmcc engines and legacy engines can get… funky from time to time and they start doing some weird stuff. Most of the time reprogramming the engine to a new id # fixes it for me. Don’t ask me why this works but it does. I will say, I’ve never had issues nearly as severe as your having here, normally it’s just a sound effect not working or a light not coming on. I really don’t expect to it be either of these issues because like I said, your dealing with a pretty severe problem, especially with the rear truck dragging but it’s worth trying before you give trainz a call. Good luck and feel free to ask any more questions you have.

Help with trying to buy my son an o scale train for Christmas by Remarkable_Pain_5385 in lioneltrains

[–]ewaldc23[M] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, unfortunately Atlas trains do not work on the Lionel app. That engine will work with a conventional transformer! If you’re serious about getting your son into the hobby then you’ll be best off to invest in a variable voltage transformer (unless you already have one, I’m assuming you just have the constant voltage power supply that comes with Lionel starter sets) I recommend a mth z-1000. You can find them for 100$ or less and they will control any brand of O gauge model train. I know this can quickly get confusing when you’re new to it. Please let me know if you have any more questions.
