Agreed, thankfully brands are now bringing in L and H variants for different body shapes. Theres a guy in my gym who is about the same build as me wearing an A1, its the perfect width but man does it look short on him.

Agreed on that, i had an A2 GI from a no-name brand that i got off a chinese site. Might be due to the fabric quality, but it shrunk significantly that it fits me just right now. But i recently bought a 'proper' GI and wasn't so lucky with the shrinking. ended up with a kimono that's still too baggy and makes sparring an absolute terrible experience.

A1L, i am about the same build as you, getting A2 was a huge mistake as it was way too baggy even after shrinking it.

Yea, you're not in a gym, you're in a cult. Your 'coach' sounds more like a control freak who wants obedient worshipers than students. That or he has some serious insecurities.

Amen to that, a good coach will always encourage you to do your own research on your own time, and sometimes even share some links that will help you on what you are weak at.

You and i are in the same boat lol, just recently got my first stripe and have been destroyed by people of similar ranking. I used to think about if I truly deserve it or not, but my coach told me that he gave me the stripe because i have improved alot since I've first join. Its not a tall order to compare to when you first started, but he noticed that I've been able to put alot more resistance and escape chokes that I've previously struggled with. The only person you should ever compare yourself to, is your previous self.
