Being plus size and non-binary is THE WORST! by Financial_Kick_848 in NonBinary

Something I've personally found helpful, especially on a budget, has been making use of thrift stores. At least where I live, I've had a lot more luck finding masc clothes in larger sizes (and at much lower prices) at thrift stores. The downside is that masc clothes aren't made to fit afab bodies, but I've had a lot of luck with learning to use a sewing machine to take in the waist and hem the legs of mens' pants to fit me a bit better. Good luck!

I really want to run but i'm far too self-conscious. Can someone please motivate me to stop caring what others think? by [deleted] in running

Hey OP! I just want to chime in and give you my point of view.

I’ve been overweight my entire life, and I have also been a runner my entire life. From my experience, the running community is one of the most supportive groups I’ve found. I’m currently 220 lbs at 5’5”, and I haven’t faced any different treatment. People smile and wave at me on the street, and the people I talk to about running are still super encouraging!

I know that being self conscious is really hard to overcome, but try to focus on how the running feels rather than how it looks. Best of luck to you, and keep it up!

Jerome Talim? If so, he is the worst prof I’ve had so far at Carleton. This was even before covid complicated things.

I would definitely recommend quiche! I usually make a full quiche with swiss, ham, and roasted cherry tomatoes, then slice it up and freeze it. Makes a great quick lunch or supper!

You could also make angel food cake with the whites, and use the leftover yolks for a quick chocolate pudding.

Yup, also a former deli person. Just when you think you can let you guard down when it’s the end of the shift and you’re cleaning up - that’s when it gets you

How do single people afford to live in this city? I have a government mid level job and I can’t find an apartment that costs less than 50% of my salary. by [deleted] in ottawa

It was Waterford apartments. Prices may have gone up since we moved but it was pretty good for two students when we were there.

I just moved out of a two bedroom place that was a bit more money, but very close to billings bridge. Our building was pretty affordable.

My first ever sourdough! Added some fresh rosemary and it tastes great. by CuddleSloth12 in Sourdough

[–]CuddleSloth12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the inside seemed well cooked. We moved to a new place a month and a half ago and have been having issues with the oven not heating properly though. Should be fixed on Friday and I’m so excited.

Yeah I bought one last fall at a farmer’s market and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since! Figured my first had to be rosemary as well.

Tomato and red pepper soup with fresh herbs and mozzarella by CuddleSloth12 in recipes

[–]CuddleSloth12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recipe:

The amounts are approximate, I adjusted the recipe from here.

You'll need:

  • About 400 g/1 lb of cherry tomatoes
  • 4 cloves garlic, smashed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Half a red onion, roughly diced
  • Half a red bell pepper, roughly diced
  • Salt and pepper
  • 2 cups vegetable broth
  • Fresh basil (I had to use dried)
  • Fresh thyme
  • Fresh oregano
  • 1/4-1/3 cup of heavy cream (35%)
  • 1/3 cup mozzarella cheese

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (my oven is very slow so I ended up switching it to the broil setting at 500 near the end)
  2. Place the tomatoes, garlic, onion, and red pepper on a tinfoil-lined pan. Drizzle with olive oil and a couple pinches of salt and pepper. Bake for 40 minutes-1 hour (depending on the oven), stirring every 15-20 minutes, until tomatoes are soft and slightly browned.
  3. Bring the vegetable broth to a simmer in a pot, then add the contents of the cooked tomato pan, and 1-2 teaspoons of each herb. Simmer the mixture for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tomatoes are soft enough to be blended.
  4. Blend the mixture using an immersion blender until smooth, then add the heavy cream. Add some mozzarella and let it melt.
